I have worked for so many gross places. I worked for this little fast food restaruant owned by my landlord in Illinois....They are closed down now, but they also have a larger restaraunt still open. At the place I worked at...it was so disgusting... some examples
*One time I got so grossed out that I cleaned every square inch of the floor with sos pads...That was how much greese was on the floor.
*One time the owner came in because I got super busy..she lived next door. She was cooking and dropped someones hamburger when she went to transfer it to the bun....She yelled "it wants to live" and seriously scooped it back up and put it on the bun.
*Most of their frozen items had been in the freezer for years...because it had been so long since people orderered them.
*One time I moved the medal cooks stand to clean under it because nobody ever had and we found dead rats under it .
*The place was so gross that everyone in town knew it...so the only customers we got were people passing by on the interstate or in town for something and didn't know the place was gross. All we did while we were clocked in was play pin ball and talk to our friends because we hardly ever had customers.
*half the time our paychecks bounced and the other half the owners would steal their own money from the cash register and not tell their spouse.
mckayleesmom replied: Oh...also. My best friends sister use to work at their other restaraunt...It is a fancier restaraunt and she told us that they were ordered to recycle food before...Like lettuce from salads people didn't eat and soup people didn't eat...How gross is that???
I forgot the creapiest part. The husband had been accussed by numerous previous employees of sexual harrassment and assault. One time I was working alone and I was on the phone with a customer and he snuck up behind me and I saw his reflection through the window in front of me....Man...I swung the phone back and wacked him right in the head and said "oops..sorry..didn't see you there".... . He wasn't going to touch me.
C&K*s Mommie replied: I only worked in one rest., the only things I learned from it that was disgusting were:
~~To avoid bread pudding. They left the day old bread over by the garbage.
~~To always check the silverware, and plates for tiny bits of food.
~~To avoid touching the tables as much as possible, the rags used to clean them were used ALL day long. I changed mine very often, even if it cost the rest. more money to replace them, it got thrown out.
~~And to wipe the plates off (like at a buffet), again. Some servers at our restaraunt used the same rags they clean the tables with, to "dry" the plates off. Those were the same servers that used the same rags ALL day long.
I have the shivers now thinking of what I saw...
My2Beauties replied: I worked at a large chain restaurant one time, won't name the name incase anyone eats there all the time, well they make *shakes* so to speak, they aren't called that but sort of like it and one time we found a pair of underwear in the machine, someone did it as a prank and we used the maching all day like that
There was one girl who worked there who was notorious for not washing her hands when she went to the restroom
My ex-boyfriend in high school had a cousin that worked at a McDonald's in a really bad part of town and they fried a dead rat on the grill one time I'm serious, who would want to do that I have no clue, but he told us about it and he said he started throwing up when he walked in and seen it!
The place where I worked at had their bun toasting machine at the back drive-thru window where you collect all the money and when you got busy and didn't have time to put your gloves on and toast a few buns because there was car after car and if they needed buns to go, you had to toast them with no gloves after you'd been handling money!
mckayleesmom replied: I worked for McDonalds for about a month once...It was during Beanie Baby and McRibb season. I don't know about all McDonalds, but I have a friend that worked for a different one and we were comparing stories. The trays they cook them on they never washed....One time I went to wash them and I got repremanded and told they didn't have time to wash them. They just dunk them in dirty water..spray them and go.
coasterqueen replied: Not me....but I worked at a Shop N' Save Grocery Store in the deli department while in college for like 2 days and I won't even begin to tell you what is actually in their sandwich spread. It was the most disgusting thing I did, working in a deli. I only get deli meat from one particular place in town because of their cleaning/safety standards.
mckayleesmom replied: Your restaruant used gloves?... . I was a cashier..so it didn't matter, but I know at McDonalds..if you couldn't see them..they didn't wear them.
C&K*s Mommie replied: One story I heard was from a chain of ice cream stores. I am not even sure they are still in business period, I have not heard of them in years.
Anyhow, the workers at this tiny place, would spit in homeless people's ice cream when they came up.
Another story I read was that a teenager spit in a cops wrap once at a fast food chain. The wrap was cut in half by the chain anyhow, and as he went to eat the second half he noticed what he thought was spit (the loogee kind of spit ) In the end, the kid was arrested or something like that.
I also wonder, some men are notorious for not always washing their hands. I wonder if some of those same men are the ones preparing my food in the back.
One more! At a hole in the wall bar-b-que place in Tallahassee, you can order delicous food. The first time I went in, I ordered. The man taking my order called back, behind a wall to someone my order but "with seasoning" . I did not specify any "seasoning". The next time I went in, he specifically said "no seasoning" I never went back in for a third time. Although we did eat there a few more times, Chris was friendly with the owners.
kit_kats_mom replied: Ok, let me preface this by saying that this post and the ice post have me feeling really good about our families decision to stop eating out. We only eat out when absolutely necessary now (on the road & stuff) or at the one pizza place where you see them make the food in front of you & we know the owners. That said, I spent a lot of time working in rests back in the day.
I worked at a Hardees for exactly 2 hours. It was so dirty and nasty that I just up and left. I've never eaten at Hardees.
The cook at a pancake house I waitressed at would spit loogies (snotty spit) into the cops pancakes during all you can eat pancake nights. I would almost puke when the cops would ask for seconds.
My favorite was when I worked for a country club in a po dunk town in south Georgia. There was a young black male server who was the sweetest guy on earth. Some of the men that were members were real Southern Gentlemen but some were just racist turds and they would make rude comments about the server all the time. One day a customer ordered tea and he actually said "bring me a sweet tea boy". Boy? THe way he said it left no doubt that he meant it disparingly. Well, of course the server was offended but he got the sweet tea and was walking it out of the kitchen when he stopped, dropped his fly and stuck his wanker into the tea & gave it a little stir. I almost clapped when the jerk started drinking it. I learned to NEVER be rude to my server.
There are plenty more but those are some of my most memorable
kimberley replied: every bar i ever worked in lol. i think only one of them was ever sorta clean.
gr33n3y3z replied: I've worked in a few nasty places myself and I wonder to myself how they do pass inspections bc when they come to the school I see what we go through during the time she is there.
And the bosses are just as bad bc once we had hamburger it was all brown and nasty and I went to throw it out and he said what are you doing I said throwing it out he said you cant do that I did and told him fire me lol He didnt but you would be surprised how nasty alot of kitchens are Thats one of the things I check out when I go out to eat.
My2Beauties replied: Ohhhhhhhhhhhh I have another one, and this is by the far the most digusting I've heard yet - BTW though Cary the wanker one was hilarious!
Anywhoo....and this may be TMI seriously. At this same large fast food chain, we had this manager, ok he was dumb as a box of rocks, 20 something, talked on the phone in the office all day, could care less what we did. Of course as a teenager myself I loved working his shift because I basically did nothing the entire time. One day, a guest had crapped all over the bathroom on the floor (who on earth does that sort of thing, honestly? ) but it was diarrhea on top of that (told you guys TMI), so anyways one of the guy workers went ot the restroom and noticed it, he came back to the back green as ever, he was gagging half to death. So the dumb manager asked what happened. When he told him he was like well how do we clean it up and who is going to do it, everyone refused, there were only 3 guys there, the one who gagged half to death, my ex (we worked together) who said he would quit if he was told to do it and that wasn't in his job description and one other guy in the back who said basically the same thing my ex did. Well - that left him since us girls couldn't go into the men's restroom and he dared not ask us girls anyways! LOL. So, he said well we don't have enough big towels to use, we only had one mop that we had to mop the dining room floors with that night, that was my ex's job and he said he would not even consider mopping the floors with the same mop if he used it, so check this out, this dumb manager gets a spatula that we used to turn the meat with on the grill and one towel and goes in there and scoops up the poop ok So we're thinking we have like 3-4 spatulas anyways laying around that he is going to scoop the poop and throw the spatula away. Can you BELIEVE he had the AUDACITy to come back on on line (we called the kitchen or whatever the line) and say to the guy washing the dishes, "hey wash this off and take it back to the grill!" Every single last one of us told him that if he didn't throw that thing away we were going to call the health department on him!
Oh man, that makes me gag thinking about it!
gr33n3y3z replied: That was nasty OMG so gross
C&K*s Mommie replied: Oh that is horrible, LeaAnn!!
jcc64 replied: Cary, you just made my day with that story!!!!!!

I am rolling here!
zdk753 replied: Well mine aren't as nasty as some of the others. The grossest place I worked was at a corn dog restaraunt. The hot dogs would be brown & yet we couldn't throw them away (cost too much money). The bosses thinking was that we were just going to cover them up w/ the batter so who would know. Another time I was frying someone a funnel cake when a beetle fell into the grease. My boss told me to just leave it & if by chance the beetle is in the funnel cake when I serve it to act like I didn't know. One night the mall where the restaraunt was in was having an after prom party there. When I came back in the lights were off. While I was trying to find the light switches everytime I took a step I heard a loud crunch. I finally found a switch & when I turned the lights on millions of roaches scurried everywhere. Not to mention that the place was just down right nasty. We also had to use the same rag all day long. Another place I worked for was a national ice cream place. We were swamped & I went to grab a paper towel & hit my finger right on the metal. I sliced my finger wide open. I was gushing blood everywhere. I wasn't allowed to get a bandage or wait until I got the bleeding to stop. My boss just had me make people's drinks instead of cook. Let's just say by the time the crowd slowed down I was running out of clean ice.
PrairieMom replied: No more restraunts for me! I had convinced my self that these things were urban Legends and that they never actually happened. Thanks guys. (sigh) I guess I really don't need Mc Donalds or Taco bell anyway...
My3LilMonkeys replied: Oh could I tell you some stories....
I worked for a buffet/steakhouse restaurant for 3 years. There were *lots* of things wrong with this place - I would never eat there. Some of them:
- We had roaches - LOTS of roaches. The owner claimed they "came in on the produce" and there was nothing he could do about it.
- People dropped food on the floor and served it. They would pick it up, dunk it in the deep fryer (supposedly to kill the germs) and then serve it.
- Our dishwasher was lazy and when we were busy he would throw dishes away instead of washing them. One of the managers was always trying to brownnose the owner so he would go through the dumpster ripping garbage bags apart to find dishes that got thrown away. Then they would wash them and use them.
- The employee bathroom was a common location for sexual activities between employees.
- One of the managers was gay and liked to flaunt it. He would make rude/sexual comments to the employees, show gay porn on the television in the manager's office, and bring his friends in and tell male employees that so-and-so really liked them and wanted to go out with them.
- The employees were all drug addicts. At one point about 2 months before I quit DH (only my boyfriend then) and I went down the schedule and he and I were the only two employees on the list who were not drug addicts.
- The worst thing I ever witnessed - one of our male employees (on a dare) took a ketchup bottle from the pile to be refilled, stuck it up a place where the sun doesn't shine IYKWIM, and then mixed it back into the pile without even wiping it off.
