Spring or Purified?
stella6979 wrote: I was just wondering what all you water drinkers prefer? I really do like the taste of purified, but I'm wondering if Spring is better for you since it contains all the minerals?
cameragirl21 replied: I used to drink spring water and I do drink tons of water. I preferred the taste to purified. At my new place, there is a filter in the refrigerator and it has a water spout and an ice spout so I drink that now and it's just as good and I prefer it because I no longer need to buy bottled water which as we all know is not ideal for the environment. So I guess now I drink purified but when I bought bottled water, it was always spring water.
stella6979 replied: Hmmm..ok. I was just curious as I mentioned to someone that I drank purified and she pretty much blasted me because I wasn't getting all the minerals I need.
coasterqueen replied: I always buy spring, but we had our home water tested the other day and was told that purified is much much better. Dh says there is good and bad in both.
stella6979 replied: See that's what I've heard and read too. So many different opinions and mixed views. I guess I'll just keep drinking my purified.
HuskerMom replied: Maybe I'm odd but I prefer tap or well water (my inlaws have the best well water).
Kentuckychick replied: This is true... and not true. The problem is indeed that purified water lacks the nutrients in tap or spring water, HOWEVER... when it comes to spring water, there's the risk of a lot of other pollutants.
We give Connor and Caydee regular tap water. I drink it... have for years and we're all okay. They get the flouride and minerals they need and I don't have to pay for water.
My3LilMonkeys replied: We drink well water which I love.
Calimama replied: We drink whatever kind Sparkletts drops us each week.
MommyToAshley replied: I always thought people were crazy when they bought bottled water. But, then I got hooked on Dasani water and I love the taste and can tell the difference. I never thought of water as a significant source of vitamins but maybe I was wrong. I think if you eat a well-balanced meal then you should be ok. The thing that concerned me was flouride, and I talked to Ashley's dentist about it because she also drinks bottled water.
So, I drink Dasani because I like the taste and probably wouldn't drink water otherwise.
CantWait replied: Dee Dee, what did you dentist say? We get bottles of water delivered to us for our cooler because the water here is not safe to drink. We could drink the filtered water, but we prefer the Nestle.
mom21kid2dogs replied: Me, too! we're big water drinkers but we rarely buy it (other than the price we pay the city!)
stella6979 replied: I'd just like to add that I don't buy it either. I work for a bottled water company so I get it at no cost. It actually surprises me what some people will pay for water.
coasterqueen replied: It wouldn't if you lived in an area where the water tastes like chlorine and just nasty tasting in general. We mainly drink our filtered tap water, which tastes better than just the regular tap water we have out in a township water district. We had our water tested the other day and there is so much chlorine in our tap water that you wouldn't even need to chlorinate the pool if it wasn't for the hot sun evaporating the chlorine in the water. YUCK!!! It's still supposedly safe to drink by someone's standards. We buy bottled for town trips, road trips, etc.
stella6979 replied: Oh, I know. A lot of customers buy it for that reason alone. We also sell it in glass which some people prefer and that stuff runs $15.00 for a 5 gallon bottle.
coasterqueen replied: Yikes! I'd much prefer glass...but not at that price. I spend about $8 or less a month on water - that's good enough for me. Considering it's not really a healthy purchase for the environment.
BAC'sMom replied: I hope that you realize there is a good chance that water you’ve just forked out a buck for comes from municipal water supply.
I'll just leave it at that
stella6979 replied: Our purified water does come from a municipal water supply, but we filter it here.
BAC'sMom replied: Cool! I didn't want you paying out the nose for water from BFE, Tx!
stella6979 replied: LOL! I appreciate the heads up!!
cameragirl21 replied: No one that I know of in Florida drinks tap water, it's gross and brackish. At least not in Miami, I can't speak for the rest of the state but my parents used to live in Jax and no one there that I knew of drank tap water either. When I lived in Ohio I drank tap water, up north it's better, I think, but some places have very old pipes, like at my former high school and there was talk of lead, etc. The reason people prefer glass is that apparently Sheryl Crow got breast cancer due to plastic water bottles...the plastic, when it gets hot, seeps into the water and apparently it's carcinogenic. Here in FL, it gets so hot that I only carry glass or the really heavy duty, safe, reusable plastic bottles when I go out and about with water, which I take with me pretty much everywhere like a baby bottle.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Filtered tap water here. I can taste the difference between the filtered and nonfiltered easily. Troy says he can't, but I can the instant it hits my tongue.
stella6979 replied: Oh, I can definitely taste the difference. Once I'm able to quit I plan on getting one of those filters too, but for now, I'll enjoy my free water.
My2Beauties replied: I forget where I read (probably the local paper) but the city of Louisville's water was voted best on I can't remember how many large metropolitan areas but I have to agree our tap water is better than most bottled waters I've ever had. I drink water from the fridge so I think that's purified LOL! I don't drink much water anyways, but our tap water is very good. I can taste the difference when I visit my dad, it's disgusting down there.
mckayleesmom replied: I will second that...I lived in Pensecola and the water was disgusting..it smelled like garlic.
msoulz replied: I have no issue with good ol' Detroit tap water. But I do not like distilled water - it has an odd something about it!! Otherwise spring water is just fine and filtered is fine but not distilled....
jcc64 replied: My well water, which comes straight out of the ground with no chemicals added whatsoever. Nothing tastes as good, imo.
redchief replied: I drink tap water usually. We just hooked up the new refrigerator and it has a filtered tap so I might start using that. I'm just so used to turning on the faucet and going that I don't know if I'll change.
Karen, it sounds to me as if your water company is still using an old chlorine purification system. If that's the case it explains why your water tastes like chlorine. We changed all of our well purification systems to sodium hypochlorite about eight years ago. The improved quality of the water both in taste and odor was remarkable. The old chlorinators worked, but they were nasty and environmentally dangerous. If your area is still using the old chorinators, maybe it's time to put some pressure on them to upgrade the systems.
