Spinoff question about pictures

jem0622 wrote: I have a sensitive question to ask. How would I find out if anyone decided to use my kids pics elsewhere on the web? For those who have unfortunately been a victim of this (and I've heard of it elsewhere too)...how were you notified or how did you find out?

I just got to thinking b/c I have shared pics and never really thought about someone trying to pass my kids off as theirs or that my family pic was their family. KWIM? And that is lame of me not to think about that when I have a triple alert on my credit report to detect fraud...but don't really do a ton of things to safeguard the pics.

C&K*s Mommie replied: Good question! I never thought about it until recently myself. I know that are shady people around, but I never thought twice about sharing pix of our girls with you guys here on the boards, or elsewhere so other family members can see the latest of them.

luvbug00 replied: good q. I'm going to start writting my innitals on them to keep them safe.

ashtonsmama replied: I've wondered that lately also...there must be a website somewhere out there...I think I've heard that. I'd check on Google and see what comes up for "stealing pictures" or whatnot-KWIM? Let us know. I'd like to check on the few I have up too...I'll PM you if I find something.

kit_kats_mom replied: I'm a little worried about that too. Of course I guess I could go and check the other parenting boards periodically but I just don't have that kind of time. I figure that if someone is using pictures from my webpage to claim my girls are theirs, it's wierd but not really harmful KWIM? I'd be a bit spooked if it happened but not terribly worried about it.

mckayleesmom replied:
Ditto.....Im not going to let nutty people keep me from sharing my pictures of my children. Those people have issues, not me. Someone can easily take a picture of my children driving by my house and there would be nothing I could do about it. Im not letting them stop me....

BAC'sMom replied: Ok it seems we have all had this on our minds. So how do we find out?

kit_kats_mom replied: http://diaperimages.com/

This is one link I've found but I've not had time to read it all. Seems pertinent to the convo though.

Bee_Kay replied: You could try this... not sure if it would work though.

As long as the person that took your picture didn't change the file name.... you could do a google image search (typing in the file name of your photo)

The only thing, I don't know if it would work on messageboards

ashtonsmama replied:
I have tried that, didn't work for mine, but it could I suppose...

ashtonsmama replied:
That seems like it has some good tips...thanks.

CAMSMOM1 replied: I have had the same concerns. I'm was thinking the same thing. wink.gif

3xsthefun replied: I've been wondering about this also.

I will check out the link later.

But I was thinking....since some people are worried about this, maybe the mods could make a thread for pictures only, and require a password to get into it (like with the P&I thread). Just a thought, that way that people might feel more comfortable with it.

ilovemybaby replied: I can right click on the photos/siggies on PC and save them (if I wanted to). The last message board I used did not let anyone do that. If you right clicked you couldn't save them. I am pretty sure it was something the moderators did that made that option disabled. But I'm not sure...
This is definitely the first message board that I have noticed that doesn't stop me from saving them. unsure.gif blink.gif

ilovemybaby replied:
That would mean we wouldn't be able to have signatures. Because you can take those too.

ions_momma replied:
Oh thats a good point! But I just meant it for sharing pictures, alot of people have siggys specially made with thier names and stuff on it so they wouldnt be as likely to be used somewhere else....just a thought though!

ilovemybaby replied: That's true...
I normally just put my daughters first and maybe middle name on her siggies though. I don't add my name. So anyone could save it and use it as their own.

jem0622 replied: Thanks for all of your input! I like the watermark idea. A fellow multiple mom that I know does professional photography in NC. She puts watermarks on all of her stuff (another multiple mom was trying to take her ideas and her work for her own efforts and she was livid!). I will tinker with that and see if it works out okay.
