LOL, sometime ago, when I was still in school, I took care of 2 children for a couple weeks while their parents went to England. They were 9 (boy) and 5 (girl) at the time. I took them to the movies and in the movie, some woman announced that she's a lesbian or called someone else a lesbian, I don't remember the exact details.
Anyway, as you all know, I totally support gay rights but wasn't prepared to have this conversation with a five year old whose parents may or may not agree with my opinions on the matter.
Anyway, their daughter was sitting in my lap and I sat there hoping the kids wouldn't say anything but sure enough, their daughter turns me to and says, "what's a lesbian?"
So I said, "a lesbian is a girl who likes other girls." I mean, I know this is a stupid answer but I was so unprepared for this and again, she's not mine so I have to be aware of that as I explain things to her.
So she responds with, "I like other girls...."
So I said, "No, a lesbian is a girl who marries another girl, she doesn't want to marry a boy."
And their daughter, who at 5 was already a bit boy crazy says, "Oh" and that ended the conversation.
Oh boy.... huh.gif

LOL, my son's similar question was "what are these two jiggly balls?" rolling_smile.gif

paradisemommy replied: i think you guys should have to post your answers too rolling_smile.gif

msoulz replied: DH handled the jiggly ball question with anatomically correct words.

I have no answer for the germ question. He wants to know where they start, not how they spread, like where does that first germ come from. If any scientific minds out there know the answer then please pass it along!! Ten year olds ask complex questions!! ( OH, he was much younger than 10 when he inquired about the jiggly balls tongue.gif )

germs are bacteria, they are everywhere and unlike viruses, they don't need a host, they can live on any surface. They existed long before humans did so the first one started way before there was any human or animal life on Earth. They mutate constantly which is how new diseases come about.
They are drawn to what is decomposing, that's why if you leave out anything that can rot, like fruits, veggies, meat, etc, the meaning of rot is that the bacteria devour it...that is what biodegradable literally means, that bacteria will start to decompose it.
Incidentally, if something has a lot of preservatives in it, it literally means that it's been so chemically altered that even the bacteria don't want it...which is why processed foods are considered unhealthy, bacteria won't eat them so should humans really be eating them?
Said the girl who had a little bit of chocolate for dessert after lunch.... blush.gif And no, it wasn't dark chocolate.... blush.gif blush.gif

msoulz replied:
TY Jennifer! So where does that first virus come from?

cameragirl21 replied:
Haven't you watched the Xfiles, Mary?!
It is extraterrestrial!
LOL, seriously, not sure how viruses came about but they mutate constantly...apparently HIV mutates hundreds of times per day. They require a host so I'm guessing they are a product of evolution.

msoulz replied:

A HA!!! I KNEW those shiny round things in the sky weren't weather balloons!!! tongue.gif

I think i am going to save this question for later and when my son needs to do some kind of research project and doesn't have a topic I will suggest he answer his own question. That'll teach him for asking intelligent questions! happy.gif
