Special vitamins?

PrairieMom wrote: I am still taking my Pre-nats, but they are almost gone. I was wondering if I should keep taking them, or if there are vitamins out there that are specifically greared to the BF woman? whats good?

MyLuvBugs replied: Ya know....I got this magazine the other day and they had an add for a BF vitamin? I'd never heard of sucha thing....It was called "Expecta" or something. Personally, I just went right back to regular Vitamins right after Lorelei was born. This time I'm going to stick with Pre-nats for awhile. I really don't think it matters so long as you're eatting properly.

Lynda836 replied: I think any multivitamin would do....I've never heard of one for BF. But if you're eating a well balanced diet you shouldn't even need that.

paradisemommy replied: i say keep taking your prenatals..i get mine at costco and it's like $12 for a HUGE bottle that last a LONG time and are just as good as the rx ones..i've been taking mine for the past 4+ years as that was the recommendation from my ped (as long as you are still bf)..

boyohboyohboy replied: I still take the prenatals but I was wondering also if there wasnt a better vit. seems like as the kids get older and take more milk, seems like you would lose more vitamins. I know I dont always eat right, so I was wondering that.
I take the generic ones from walmart.

coasterqueen replied:
ITA thumb.gif Me too.

holley79 replied: I just continued with my Pre Nats and take the Expectra from Target. Don't know what good it does but take it all the same. The Expectra is supposed to be used in conjunction with your pre nats.

PrairieMom replied:
whats expectra? is that the LIPL suppliment?

MyLuvBugs replied:
Yeah...something like that. "Filled with DHA and ARA for nursing moms" (or maybe just DHA? unsure.gif ) is what the ad I saw said. Not really sure if it's "necessary" KWIM? but it can't hurt. smile.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I still take pre-nats, but any multi vitamin will be fine. I wouldn't double up with a variety of products. One mutli a day has what you need. Maybe add a calcium supp, but that's it. JMO.

PrairieMom replied: I bought some more pre-nats. I am also taking a calcium suppliment tho, since I am off dairy.

BabyOwen427 replied: The DHA and ARA are for optimal brain and eye development. If you eat plenty of products that have those in it, the extra shouldn't matter. DHA and ARA are found in fish.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
I take back my answer! happy.gif I just went to the ped for Wesley's 2 month checkup today and the ped gave me a sample of that Expectra. I didn't know what DHA was from the posts above, but it's fish oil, which I took when I was PG. Just another name for it. So the ped said to continue it. So it may be a good idea to take this too. I'm going to just continue with my fish oil capsules that I got at the health store rather than buy Expectra though, only because I'm sure it's more expensive (good marketing). But yes, the oil is good for brain/eye development. It's Omega 3's.
