Speaking of toys...Leapster?

coasterqueen wrote: Does anyone have the Leapster? Does your kid like it? What educational games do they like on it? What other games do they like?

Boo&BugsMom replied: I was wondering about these too. Tanner has a LeapPad but I think he would really like those Leapsters. I am just not sure if I can justify spending that kind of money. The games are $20-$25 a piece too. I'm still pondering it though.

coasterqueen replied:
We got one for Kylie for Christmas on Ebay, brand new, for $15 under the retail price (not counting tax). So it was easy to justify the price since I saved at least $15 on it. I then got 2 brand new educational games on there for $7 (not including tax) less than what they cost in the store.

So I made off pretty well or else we wouldn't have done it either. We aren't the type of family to really promote computers or video games at her age, but she's really into anything that is educational right now, especially writing. I had read about the Leapster and a game out there that makes writing fun and great to learn so we thought this would be right up her alley. We are also hoping she'll like it in the car when we are traveling, which was our main reason for getting it. We make a road trip at least once a month to see our friends and then we will be taking a HUGE road trip in June of next year. Who knows, she may be bored of it by then. rolleyes.gif

If you are wanting to get one but to save money try Ebay. It took some time for me to find the deals so you have to wait patiently. happy.gif My sister also asked what to get Kylie for Christmas and I told her a Leapster game. So that will give her 3 educational games, which is all I think she'll need.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
This is what I would like to get it for too! Troy's family lives 3 1/2 hours up north and we go up their quite a bit where it would come in handy. I'll have to check out E-bay. Thanks!

MommyToAshley replied: We don't have the Leapster, but we have the Vsmile Pocket. It has a Dora game that Ashley loves. All the games are educational as well. Ashley brought it to dinner one time with Di, her DH, and Kaitlin... and Kaitlin couldn't put it down. laugh.gif

Here's a review on on the Vsmile if you are interested:

Kaitlin'smom replied:
blush.gif yep I think santa might bring her that one

amynicole21 replied: We have the L-Max. Is this the same thing? Sophia likes it, but it doesn't hold her attention for long (not much does). We bought it on closeout from Target last year for something like $20 (they are usually around $100).

coasterqueen replied:
I think the L-Max is just like it but that it can also hook up to the tv, correct?

I'm HOPING that since there are writing games that she will really be interested in this. Course when she learns how to write really well she'll have no use for it anymore. rolleyes.gif happy.gif

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Katy and Matt both love it...Matt doesn't get it yet but still likes to play.
Katy's favorite games are the Learn to draw and Write and the princess game...she also really like the preloaded game.
SHe plays with it for about an hour probably 4 times a week

coasterqueen replied:
Cool! We got Kylie the first one you mentioned and then another one, maybe Letterpillar, can't remember. My sister is going to get her the Princess one, I think.

kit_kats_mom replied: K got her Leapster for her birthday. She loves it. The only games we have are the drawing one (with a pencil on the front) and the Disney Princess one. She enjoys both of them. I put a ton of new games on our amazon wish list for Christmas.

b&bsmom replied: We have the vsmile for one and the leapster for the other, my dd has used a leapster since she was around 3 or 4 she is now 7 and still uses it, they have games for all ages and she still gets a lot out of it. I love it and defintely think it was worth the money, it is great for long car rides, vacations, and wasting time if you know you are going to have a long wait. I also take them when I work at the lanes in the nursery so my kids can play. I love that they are educational. It is better than them playing a game boy!!JMHO

Brias3 replied: Aliyah and Mason both have them. They are getting alot of use and are great for the car. I'm really glad we ended up getting them. We started off buying one for Mason because Aliyah and Ryan had a LeapPad with Writing but it ended up in a fight over the Leapster.

We have quite a few games now between the two of them and the kids really like the movie-themed ones (Madagascar, The Wild, etc.) and Mason's favorite is the Backyardigans one, which is really great for counting.

arv99t replied: My son has the l-max which does hook up to the tv. He loves to sit and write because we don't see it on the tv until it is done correctly. We have about 5 games for it which he plays for hours. He doesn't really realize that he is learning while playing. He has learned a lot from it. I would reccommend the leapster to any parent. I have already bought them for my niece and nephew. They are a little pricy but I believe they are worth the money. I couldn't get my little one to sit and write his letters before this without getting frustrated but I have no problems now.
