Speaking of pets... - from cameragirl's post
my2monkeyboys wrote: What's the strangest pet you've ever had, either the animal itself or just the personality of it? I've had a few different animals, dogs, cats, water dogs, ferrets, birds, all kinds of farm animals.
But the strangest of these was a chicken I had named Chicken Little. When I got him he was about the size of my thumb. He was a bantam, but even smaller than most. When he was full grown, his wing feathers drug the ground. He was golden yellow with black stripes on his wings/tail. He would follow me everywhere, and loved it when I laid him on his back in my arms like a baby. I'd stroke his belly and he'd nap. He'd also climb all over our dogs and try to sleep on them, when they'd let him. Unfortunately the ducks killed him one day in their pool. I actually cried over a chicken. I had him a little over 2 years, and had planned on taking him with me when I got married.
So, what's the weirdest pet you've had/have? Remember, personality counts as much as the type.
mom2my2cuties replied: Growing up we had 4 ducks and 2 Geese...
They had quite the personalities. Two of the ducks, my sister had trained to walk on this leash contraption she made that had little neck holder things on it. The ducks would "kiss" you as well. You could make a kissing sound and they would waddle over and peck on your cheek.
stella6979 replied: I had a dashaund when I was younger and every winter when we made snowmen you couldn't pull that dang dog away. We'd let her out and she'd run right to the snowman and just bark and bark and even growl. LOL! She would do this when we'd use the rotisserie as well. She was a strange dog, but we loved her all the same.
TheOaf66 replied: we had horses that had some of the funniest personalities I had ever seen
my2monkeyboys replied: So.... you gonna tell us about them, or just make us use our imagination??? LOL
PrairieMom replied: We had the meanest Male hamster you have ever met. We named him Rat Bast@**. I had never seen a hamster growl or hiss before. He bit my mom and drew blood! He was the meanest thing I had ever seen. 15 days after we got him, he had babies. We took all but one baby, and "RB" back to the pet store. I told the worker there to feed him to a snake. He was way to mean to go home with some poor unsuspecting kid.
flirtycuddle replied: I had a ferret named munchie cuz no matter what you had she would litterally sit on her hind legs and beg like a dog. She even went everywhere with me in a lil over the shoulder bag. She would curl up in the bag on her blankie and sleep till we told her she could come out.
coasterqueen replied: I don't think I've ever had strange animal. I've had hampsters (and baby hampsters), fish, dogs, cats, and rabbits.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I had a biting guinea pig named Bandit. He had the greatest markings, but he was just mean. He drew blood lots of times and even earned a bite warning sticker in his vet chart.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I had four turtles when I was younger... MichealAngelo, Donnatello, Raphael and Leonardo.
Except Raphael turned out to be Raphaella!
They ate my goldfish.
My3LilMonkeys replied: As a child we had a lamb, chickens and turkeys (all of which later became dinner )
But the weirdest were the ducks. We had about 20 of them and one, Mr. Duck, used to "guard" our house. He would sit by the front porch all day long and hiss at anyone who tried to get in.
cameragirl21 replied: i haven't had that many pets because we had one dog when i was growing up that we got when i was 10 and that died of old age when i was in college and now i have a cat. BUT my parents have two cats that are staying with me while they travel and since they are outdoor cats (whereas my cat is strictly indoor) the food that i leave for them outside has drawn a stray cat here and there and one has pretty much become mine. so i named him Starlight. anyway, i also have a koi pond where i kept some turtles who have since moved to tank inside. well, i named all my turtles and my favorite was a yellow belly that i named Cupid. anyway, one day it rained really hard and the water in the pond went way up (it's an above ground wooden pond that sits nearly 3 feet high) and Cupid got washed out of the pond. well, since he's a water turtle, he'd not live very long out of the pond. so i looked all over the yard but there were piles of leaves fallen from the trees that got wet and soggy where he could hide and i have lots of foliage so trying to find a small, frightened green turtle was pretty much an exercise in futility. so i looked and looked and pretty much gave up. but then Starlight saw me outside looking and started meowing to be fed, he is always hungry, so much so that when he first showed up i thought he was a pregnant female because all he ever did was eat. anyway, so i must have been desperate because i turned to Starlight (who had never been introduced to the turtles) and said, "Starlight, go find Cupid." anyway, i went into the kitchen to cook something and i have sliding glass doors that lead out to the yard and i looked out and saw Starlight playing with something under the patio table. i thought about Cupid for a moment but i realized it was impossible, i mean how did Starlight even know what he was supposed to look for, he has never seen inside the pond becuase it's up high and didn't even know i had turtles. and he certainly didn't know i named the turtle Cupid. so i went back to cooking and suddenly i hear scratching at the door. i look up and there's Starlight at the door, tapping on it, trying to get my attention. so i approach the glass door, open it, and there's Cupid sitting right in front of Starlight, not only did he find him but he brought him to me! pretty cool, no?
luvmykids replied: The coolest/strangest pet I ever had was a black manx cat named Emmett. He thought he was a dog, when there was a knock on the door he'd sit at it and growl, when I opened the door he shot to the top of my coat tree and more than once leapt onto the person at the doors head He also begged for food, if you were standing up eating something he'd climb your leg just to get a sniff and decide if he wanted to pursue it further And he played fetch, sat and rolled over on command, kicked his leg like a dog when you scratched his behind, and slept on his back.
CantWait replied: Mice, lots of mice (and they were pets) and tadpoles (which obviously eventually ended up into itty bitty frogs).
JadensMama05 replied: Our 11 yo Pit Bull, Imana, is by far the strangest animal I've ever had. She's staying with my dad in Michigan unfortunately and I miss her dearly. But she thinks she's a pig one day, then a person the next. She sits on her butt just like a person and "Superman flies" as I call it where she'll lay on the floor and look like Superman. Once when we were staying with my dad, G was outside with her and I was inside. Well it was dark out, I suppose I shoud mention. So my dad has a sliding glass door and Imana wasn't used to it. So she noticed me in the doorway and came running to me (we play like crazy). Totally didn't notice the door was closed since it was brighter inside. Well, I'm sure you can imagine what happened. -Smack!- Head first into the door. She didn't get hurt or break the door but was it ever funny!
grapfruit replied: My cat I have now is pretty strange (his name is Psycho). He's SO stuck up! Everyone thinks he's unfriendly and mean but he's really not. I guess typical cat.
I did have a horse named Blackfoot that would stick his tongue out and "wave" it at you when you told him too, and when you were ignoring him.
holley79 replied: I use to have a Bantam that was the same way. Loved being held like a baby.
Just as everyone else we had dogs, cats and farm animals. I think my "weird" one was this little minature pony we adopted. She had been abused by previous owners. Well she thought I was her herd leader. She would follow me every where I went. She would also come into my grandparents' house and lay on the rug near the wood stove like a pup. I thought it was the greatset thing when I was younger. When we moved she became my grandpa's pet and followed him all of the 5 acres.
Celestrina replied: Right now I have two rats - Sammy and Rizzo. They are absolute sweethearts. Very friendly, playful, and never bite.
