I'd get sent to my room to think about what I had just done and wait for whichever parent was going to spank me. It didn't hurt when I got spanked, but I still bawled like a baby because I knew I had let my parents down and the buildup from the waiting just got to me. Worked like a charm. The wait felt like hours, but was probably only 15 minutes.

But the guy my mom married after my dad and she divorced beat the crap outta us. With belts, encyclopedias.. anything thick and hard he could find. Always bare butt. But honestly I don't think it was about punishment, I think it was him just being an a-hole. His excuse was that that was how his father treated him. mom21kid2dogs replied: Yes, quite frequently with a belt mostly by my dad. I preferred this method of discipline over anything else my parents used. It was quick, albeit painful, but never made me connect any dots other than weighing was the misdeed worth the hit.
Which is why I never plan to use it with my child.
