Someone stole my sisters identity
lisar wrote: She went today to re-new her Drivers license and found out that someone else back in 2007 went and got an ID under all her information. They even showed her the picture of the person. She reported it as fraud to them. They even had a different address. Which is a block from where she used to live. She is at home now making a police report and then she is calling the credit agencies and her bank and all that. Can someone help me and tell her what all she needs to do? We are at a loss here?
mckayleesmom replied: Yikes..that is scary. I hope they catch the person and her credit is still ok.
stella6979 replied: Oh man Lisa, that sucks! My Mom had her identity stolen a few years ago and honestly, it took her about a year to get it all settled.
lisar replied: well she has talked to the credit agencies and no one has opened anything new with her credit, so thats a good thing
stella6979 replied: Whew, that is a good thing. My Mom had someone buy 2 computers and a car!!!
boyohboyohboy replied: lisa, my sister did this to me a few years back, and it took years to get it cleared up...the police report and the credit agencies are the best thing to do..I also had a direct person in the fraud department that i could call as each thing showed up so that it was always one person handling my case...and a direct number. keep records of everything including the police report number for years. I am so sorry, this is really a mess.
Danalana replied: I don't have any advice, but I hope it gets cleared up in a timely manner!
MommyToAshley replied: Oh gosh, how horrible. I've never dealt with this kind of situation so I have no advice. Maybe she can ask the credit companies and the police that are investigating what they suggest. I hope she gets everythign cleared up. Did they catch the person who did it?
luvmykids replied: Having the credit agencies aware BEFORE someone made charges is a really big help, they can put an alert on her report so any new applications take extra verification. Someone printed checks on our business account and they would reimburse us but it took so long it was still painful, it might be worth the trouble to open a new account.
lisar replied: No she just found out about it yesterday. However the DMV said that they will prosecute and investigate it. But like I said earlier no one done anything with her credit. So maybe they just wanted a driver license. I dont know
A&A'smommy replied: yikes that is scary!!!!
Kaitlin'smom replied: wow I have insurance for this reason, somene to take care of all the paperwork for me. I got it after DH got his wallet stolen, nothing has ever come about it I think when they found no money they tossed it in the trash. MIL has hers taken a few years ago, and they did use her good credit for a car in CA, she was so mad when they would not believe her after the car was repoed, she was like I live in oh not CA why on earth woudl I have a car registured there? it was a mess and I think they still have to call and verify with her if anythign comes across with her info for credit.
best of luck to her, I hope nothing comes of it other than the DL.
