Someone PLEASE - Tell me how to keep the snakes away!!

luvmykids wrote: First, everyone said with all the kid, dog and horse activity they would stay away. Then everyone said it's too cold and they'll be hiding out soon.

LIARS!!!!!!!!!! rolling_smile.gif

Saturday there was a bull snake in a trash can in the garage puke.gif The only halfway good thing about them is they kill rattlesnakes, which I would really freak out if I saw one, but other than that I really wouldn't mind NOT having snakes in my face.

Seriously, I can't take another snake run in. I figure if I've seen five or six there must be a whole lot more. How do you get them to stay away from the house?

1lilpeanut2love replied: I'm sorry to hear that! I HATE-Hate-HATE snakes. growl.gif If I encountered one I would have a heart attack. Uggghhh! Hope they will leave you all alone.

My dad used to tell me that if I surrounded a campground with a regular rope, that it would keep the snakes away. He claimed that the snakes didn't like the feeling of the twine on thier underside.....

BUT he was just joking with me smile.gif i thought he was serious though for the longest.

cameragirl21 replied: get a pet mongoose...? rolling_smile.gif

MyLuvBugs replied: Do you have cats? Sometimes Cats will keep snakes away b/c they eat the mice/rats that the snakes like to eat also. And Cats tend to like to play with little snakes....at least mine have in the past. rolleyes.gif Hawks and other preditory birds will eat the snakes too, but that's a natural thing. I don't think you can just bring in a hawk. laugh.gif

What kinda snakes are they?? Bull snakes?

holley79 replied: We have a 4.5 foot rat snake who lives under our porch. I just leave him be as long as he leaves the dogs and the baby alone. I have seen him eating HUGE rats which I can handle a snake better then I can a nasty rat.

CantWait replied: GROSS!!!!!! ohmy.gif Sorry.

luvmykids replied: Can't have a cat, Bogie would eat it faster than a snake can eat a rat (ha ha). We have a hawk that shows up once in a while....other than that, I dunno. I need to do some research on their dislikes I guess mad.gif

sparkys2boys replied: ewwwwww... snakes? Yikes, where I live u only see them in a pet store!! You poor people..lol. I could not live in a place that has them. Good luck with getting rid of them, I don't blame u!!!

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Golf balls in the bushes and shrubs. wink.gif They think they are eggs and it kills them. They can't digest them.

Sorry about the snakes, btw. hug.gif I wouldn't be able to handle that. ohmy.gif

ETA: Scotty just told me that MOTH balls gets rid of snakes. He said they don't like the smell of them. thumb.gif

luvmykids replied:
ohmy.gif Ew, then you have dead snakes everywhere, or do they go off somewhere to die? I guess better dead but still puke.gif

I found a few things to try...fake owls, since they are predators to snakes, marigolds, and there are actually snake repellants with odors they don't like. I don't know if they work but I'll sure try it unsure.gif I don't mind them being around, especially the bullsnakes because they kill the rattlesnakes, but I just don't want them IN MY GARAGE growl.gif So I'm working on a plan to give them their space without invading mine laugh.gif

I've heard this too. It was on "Dirty Jobs". The host, Mike Rowe, was going around w/Exterminators in Louisiana (darn spelling) and they were throwing moth balls under the porch and stuff. They said they don't like the smell.

flirtycuddle replied: I'm opposite about snakes lol. We actually have a 5ft ball python as a pet and he is such a docile thing lol. I used to live in Az out in the boonies and we had rattlers and garden snakes and such. I was the kind of girl that would catch the garden snakes and show my mom and freak the heck out of her. To keep the rattlers away we used the moth balls also.

my2monkeyboys replied: I've also heard that sulfur powder works... sprinkle it around the edges of your yard every so often. I guess it's the smell, like the moth balls.
Good luck!

Cece00 replied: I'd probably call like an exterminator or something to ask.

I hope you get an answer. Snakes scare the you-know-what out of me, I'd have to move if I saw any around my house rolling_smile.gif

redchief replied: Get a mongoose.?.?

paradisemommy replied: we have a surplus of mongoose here on this island..you can come stay with us and try and catch a few!! laugh.gif emlaugh.gif
