Soda or pop? lollipops or suckers? - spin off of Cosmetologymoms post

Crystalina wrote: Do you say soda or pop?

I remember calling everything a coke. I would go to a restaurant and say "coke please" and they say "what kind? we have sprite, mt. dew....."

Then in New York it was Soda and then I moved here (Ohio) and everyone says pop. That's what I call it now but it took awhile to get used to that.

As for the suckers... that's what I call them now. Growing up they were lollipops but when in Rome...

Sorry...it's CosmetologyMommy blush.gif

DVFlyer replied: When we went from the east coast to the west coast, things changed.

It was Tennis Shoes, not Sneakers. And Bag instead of Sack.

Soda or Coke and Lollipop for me. In fact, I wish I had a soda and a lollipop right now smile.gif

My2Beauties replied: It's pop and suckers for me. But for real to be perfectly honest, a "pop" is a coke, even if you want Pepsi, Dr Pepper, Mt Dew, whatever, it's I want a coke! rolling_smile.gif

kayla's mama replied: I always say soda and suckers.

BAC'sMom replied: Coke and sucker here.

mckayleesmom replied: I say it all actually.... rolling_smile.gif

BTW...One time I wore new shoes and my friend said I had "nice new Tenny runners"......... rolling_smile.gif ...I had never heard that before.

CantWait replied: it's POP, not soda laugh.gif

MamaJAM replied: I live in eastern PA -- here we drink soda, eat lollipops and we wear sneakers.

I have a good friend who lives in New Zealand -- it took us a while to get used to the language the other uses. For weeks - every time she told me her son needed a "new nappy" - I thought she was being 'cutesie' in saying he needed a rest. blush.gif And it really freaked me out that her newborn was sleeping in a 'cot'.

Heather77 replied: Soda and suckers biggrin.gif

luvmykids replied: In a restaurant of course we order by name but otherwise everything is a Coke, and we eat suckers and wear tennies.

PrairieMom replied: We drink soda, eat suckers, Actually in our home they are called goockers, and I wear Tennies.

redchief replied: In southern NJ: Soda, lollipop, sneakers... and the sandwich is a sub or a hoagie.

Brias3 replied: We've got pop, suckers and gym shoes here smile.gif

3xsthefun replied: Pop & Suckers here.

Sometimes I will say Lollipop but not very often.

My3LilMonkeys replied: soda & lollipops here. Sneakers too.

Crystalina replied:
I've said lollipop once or twice and you would think I was speaking a strange language. Izabella said "what's a lol, lol, lollipop?" That's just how I was raised to say to it. My mom refuses to say sucker. She says it just doensn't even sound appealing or educated. tongue.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: pop and suckers! tongue.gif

holley79 replied: I call everything a "coke" and all lollipops suckers... LOL

EvesMom replied: Soda, lollypop, and sneakers here! (central jersey)

AlexsPajamaMama replied: Soda - Pepsi, Coke, etc

Pop - Popcicle & Lollypop

Shoes - Sneakers

DS says CANDLES for SANDELS!!! rolling_smile.gif

TANNER'S MOM replied: Well Coke is everything carbinated, or Pop. Never the soda pop part at all just one or the other.

Our kids get Suckers, unless they get those huge ones you only get every now and then. The ones that are as big as your hands, those are lollipops.

All gym shoes are Tennis Shoes or Tenny Boppers around here. They boys only have two kinds of shoes it seems, Cowboy boots and one pair of Tenny Boopers. They may have 5 pairs of boots though~!

ilovemybaby replied: Sucker is a bad word here. Like loser. I just couldn't call lollipops "suckers" LOL

MommyToAshley replied: I've called it cola, soda, or pop... depending on where I lived. Right now, in Ohio, it is pop.

I use the term sucker for lollipop, but DH uses the term sucker for a popcycle. How weird is that!

Bee_Kay replied: Up here in MN, it's POP and SUCKER....

my BIL is from mississippi and he calls all pop, COKE ... I'd never heard of that before... to me COKE is coca-cola. But, soda in general, is pop.

luvmykids replied:
Here the word for that kind of person is similar, but it's "Suckaaa!" lol

Celestrina replied: Soda and lollipop. I once worked with someone who called "soda" "pop". We teased her a little when we found out.

Edward's Mommy replied: I have always said soda and suckers. Since I was a little kid...and I was born and raised in Colorado. My dad is from Pennsylvania and he calls it pop and lollipop!

MM'sMama replied: For me its soda and sucker. rolling_smile.gif I'm in CO too.

CosmetologyMommy replied: we say gym shoes, pop and sucker. I am in Illinois!
