So Laila had her appt - I was/am sad and upset
moped wrote: UGH, please no judging or anything ok....I am just venting I think...
I mentioned at her 2 month shots that I thought she was a bit small, but she has only gained 7 oz since then, I was so shocked because I was convinced she was at least 13 pounds, but no, she is only 12.8.......I felt so sad. The health nurse talked to me and said she has dropped from the 75th to the 25th percentile, but is proprtionate weight to height - so that was the only good thing.
I explained what our normal day is like, how often she eats, etc........I mean they are not concerned, but of course I am because that is my job right! I ended up crying in her office, so I am sure that the health region will be calling me thinking I am PPD, which I don't think I do because up until that second I have been great.....anyways, right away she started asking me questions about home life, etc, I had to laugh because DH and i have been getting along better than ever since L was born. I told her it was just that I was so used to my son who gained so much so fast.
Anyways, all you moms of smaller girls, please make me feel better
BTW, she is a whopping 12.8 pounds and 23 3/4 inches - UGH!!!
MommyToAshley replied: I'm sorry you had such a rough day.
Did they give any suggestions for helping her to gain weight? Maybe she will just be on the petite side. Ashley was the opposite, she was always so big. I think we will worry no matter what... you're right, as a Mom that is our Job. But, I was always told that as long as their weight and height were proportionate then there was nothing to worry about.
You are doing great.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I know as a mother we will always be concerned for our children! You are doing everything right, she's healthy and happy and you're a great mom! Try not to let this get you down, she'll gain the weight you'll see!
moped replied: Well confession time: the last 2 nights I have given her a bottle of formula.....not that I think it will help her gain but jsut because she started favoring and fighting and being lazy at night.
Also I am sure I could imporve my diet as well! The days just fly by so fast
Bamamom replied: I can so sympathize. Katie is almost 11 months old and only weighs 16 lbs. She is soooo tiny. But my ped is convinced that she is just a small person - her porportions are okay so they are not worried. But I know how you are feeling. Please PM if you need to talk
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Jen, both of my kids were on the smaller side. Ethan moreso than Maddie. As long as she continues to grow and they see a curve on her charts, she will be fine! There's nothing wrong with her weight, hun. Those percentiles mean nothing to me quite honestly. I learned with E to turn a deaf ear when they talked about it. He's like the 5th percentile or something. But, they aren't concerned b/c of how big Scotty is. Ethan actually takes after my father more than he does Scotty.
Anyway, sorry to go off on a tangent. L is perfect and she will grow at her own rate.
PrairieMom replied: Ok, Al is nearly 2, and weighs 20 pounds 8 oz. No worries.
BAC'sMom replied: Well I’ll step up to the plate. Momma to a feather weight little girl here. Ansley will probably always be in the 25th percentile. Personally I think that chart is way over rated. As long as Laila is eating, healthy and happy I wouldn’t worry about it. Your doing a GREAT job Jen! Keep your chin up and everything will be just fine.
Boys r us replied: Oh don't let that stupid chart and percentile junk get ya down Jen!!!! Braedon has ALWAYS been in or below the 25th percentile, when he turned 5 he was still wearing 3T clothes, but could actually wear allie's 18 month old shirts..lol...he's almost 6, in a few weeks and I just bought him a pair of size 6 pants!!!!!!!!!!!! My point is that...some kids are just smaller than others and you never know, when she has a growth spurt she may really take off in growth and she might not have that growth spurt next month or next year..but as long as she IS growing and she IS eating...try not to let it get to ya!! She's probably just a petite little girl!!!
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I wouldn't be worried at all. as long as she is growing at all she is doing what she is supposed to do. Katy was alwasy right around 50% but would seemingly randomly drop to 25 or up to 75 if she was right before or after a growth spurt.
and if it makes you feel better we were very happy with Johnny's gain from 9 months on and he was that size on his first birthday
moped replied: Yes I know Johnny has always been small and i have always read up on him because he just melts my heart!!!!!!
What does he weight now if you don't mind me asking?
A&A'smommy replied: OH honey she is doing great every child grows at their own rate!!!! She is perfect
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: I know its easier said than done,,,but I wouldnt worry too much about it, yet. Like others have said, some kids are just smaller than others. Sounds to me like she's tall and thin -- every girl's dream!
I do know how you feel, though. Sammy was always in the 90th percentile. Then little miss Abby comes along and is currently in the 25th percentile for weight and it freaked me out for her to be that low. But I look at her and she looks healthy and actually eats more than Sammy. She's just a petite little thing.... besides her big 'ole cheeks. LOL
Hang in there and just keep doing what you're doing.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Jen Taylor was the exact same way until just recently! She started out in the 75-90% range for her first visit or 2 and then dropped into the 25% and stayed there AND LOWER! When she was 2 I had a horrible nurse tell me if she did not gain 5 lbs in a month and a half she could be classified as failure to thrive...she had not gained 5 lbs that year! The doctor said that was bunk and that she was height/weight proportionate,speaking,playing,etc...and HE even said that chart is so over rated! They crack me up you know! If you were taking a baby in that was as tiny height wise as L and a butter ball they would be telling you she needed to loose weight! You are an excellent and loving momma! You know your baby best and you are doing a wonderful job!!!! Don't let some stupid chart make you feel any different! People come in all shapes and sizes-SO DO babies!!!
lovemy2 replied: Here in my house we have the mother of all small girls - Olivia is just about 36 lbs - she is going to be 6 in June - she can barely hold up a size 5t pair of pants with a belt on - she is JUST outgrowing her 2t underwear - sometimes her ribs show in the front AND the back - she has always been barely on the charts - if she hit the 25th percentile at any point I would have had a party for her She is tall and perfectly proportioned - right down to her skinny feet - my Ped has always maintained that she gains each year, grows each year and always met all her milestones and she was a formula fed baby so don't let the formula thing fool yah....Laila is fine - if it makes you feel better to improve your diet - do it - try getting more protein and carbs - she will be fine - if she is gaining and growing that is what counts
abunky replied: ,i have a niece neveah , she was about 7lb 11 oz when she was born , and she stayed tiny she almost a year and still the smallest thing 19lbs if that , so shes always been a tiny baby, they put her threw test had her on a speacial diet but she still stayed small ,shes healthy, so i hope this makes you see that your not doing anything wrong or theres a problem ,all babies are different
coasterqueen replied: Gosh, I know your feelings all too well. Megan has always been small and it's been such a fight because one minute the doctor is concerned and the next he's not. Just now at age 3 we are slowly starting to see her gain.
Laila will get there, just be patient which I know is hard to do, believe me.
bawoodsmall replied: Oh Jen I do know how you feel. Emily was such a big girl - gained weight fast and was just a chubby baby(still is.) Aiden was a little thing. He was always in the 25th to 15th percentile till he stopped puking and then he gained fast. I know its hard but try not to worry about it. I have a new niece who was born on the 19th of December and her and Laila are the same size. Happy little thing though and she never pukes(I am so jealous since Aiden puked and cried non stop) Laila doesnt puke a lot does she? When people see her and say man she is little(and they do, or they did to me) just tell them yeah...she sure will be glad when she is older.
Edited to say: I had to learn with Aiden to take what people say not to heart...strangers aren't very smart and really quite rude sometimes. I def am a lot more aware of it.
lisar replied: Its okay she is fine. Raygen was alot smaller than that. She is almost 3 and she can still wear 18month clothes. She is tiny. The dr's say she is nothing but muscle and there is no fat on her. (which I think she needs a little) Raygen will be 3 in June and she is so tiny I worry about it sometimes. But the dr's arent worried about it right now.
Crystalina replied: 'Izabella has always been small. She is in her "zone" but at the very bottom. She always has been. My ped said she's just a tiny petite girl and there was nothing wrong with that. She is the smallest in her class and hates it.
Evan came along and was the opposite! They put him on a diet in the first 3 months but he just kept getting bigger. He was 9lbs at birth and was always one notch away from being "above the zone". Then the ped came to the realization he was just going to be a big boy and he was fine. He's still pretty big for 4yrs old.
Your daughter is fine I'm sure. She's just going to be petite maybe.
sparkys2boys replied: Jen. I agree here.. don't worry over it! Your doing a great job, anyone can see that. All you have to do is look at that baby and know she is well cared for and loved beyond words!
momofone replied: My DD is the smallest in her class the other kids are about a head taller. But that is how it was with me too. I'm only 5'2.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Jen, don't get worried. Aren't we all different sizes? No different for children. Those percentile scales are just the national "average"...don't let it scare you. If she were in a higher percentage or weighed more, that wouldn't mean she'd be any better off. As long as she is developing normally and is healthy, do not worry one single bit!!! Size shmize!!!
holley79 replied: Annika was 8 pounds 9 ounces when she was born. At her 2 month she was 11 lbs 4 ozs and at 4 months she was only 13 lbs 7 ozs.
Laila is perfect.
