Sleep Positioner...
Maddie&EthansMom wrote: Did any of you use a sleep positioner? I was considering buying one, but don't want to spend the extra $20 bucks if not necessary. I didn't use one with Maddie and I was wondering how much of a difference it makes...if any at all.
TIA~
coasterqueen replied: Is that one of those things that has cushions on both sides and a cushion for their head? It keeps them in place so they can't roll?
If your answer is yes, then yes, I had one. Hehehehe. We got ours through One Step Ahead. We mainly used it because it said it was supposed to help keep their head from getting flat in the back. I bought one for home and one to use at the sitter.
jen replied: I was wandering about that too, I read about flat head syndrome and that worries me but then again what doesn't!
Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Yeah! That's it! I think I will get one. Maddie did not have flat head, but she loved to sleep on her tummy so it was hard to keep her on her back. It is also supposed to help prevent SIDS. (which is my biggest concern)
Jamison'smama replied: Jamison was a side sleeper but we used one--I just had the one that was two triangles with were connected--it was a very cheap version--less than 10.00. I would swaddle then wedge her in on her side---I used it forever!!! I loved it!
kimberley replied: nope we didn't bother wasting the money. a rolled up towel or blanket does the same job. and none of my kids have a flat head
Schnoogly replied: ITA w/Kimberly. Iain only slept on his side and we used a rolled up receiving blanket behind him. The babies who get flat heads are the ones that spend 24 hours a day in a bouncer or swing or the carseat. Hold your baby a lot and it won't get a flat head.
ediep replied: we had one, not so much to prevent a flat head, but because Jason's ped reccommended that he sleep on his side to help prevent sids
MommyToAshley replied: Ashley had one of these, we got it as a present from her baby shower. But, she hardly used it, she liked to lay flat on her back. So, we made a lot of effort to make sure she changed positions often when she was awake (which was a lot) and she didn't have any problems with a flat head.
A&A'smommy replied: well alyssa sleeps on her back but lays on the side of her head so she doesnt have a flat head....im glad for that! i hope you get some good advice i have never even heard of one of those.
MomToJade&Jordan replied: We had one of these, but Jade didn't like it. She didn't like being stuck in one position and it would wake her up. I actually started to use it in bed with me so I could transition her into the bassinet. I eventually just stopped using it and by the time I did she was ready to sleep in her crib.
coasterqueen replied: I will have to say that I disagree with this, at least from *my* experience. My MIL held her baby constantly and her son's head was completely flat in back. I don't know if it was just from when he slept. He was a good sleeper, sleeping through the night completely early on or what. Now he's almost 7 and his head just looks so majorly flat.
Now I don't know what the statistics are or anything. This is just with my experience. Now Kylie was born via c/s so she had a perfectly round head from day one and was constantly held. I BF so she was a constant nurser for the longest time anyways, lol. I bought the positioner because I watched too much tv talking about how kids had to have helmets, etc, to round their head out and I saw how my BIL's head turned out. LOL.
CantWait replied: I never did. Anthony never slept on his back (and still doesn't). he tended to wake up whenever I put him there, so he always went on his side and never had any trouble staying there.
Edited to say, his head is fine
CantWait replied: that's so odd, my ped insisted that he only sleep on his back
ediep replied: yea, I think that the AMA says back or side, but he thought Jason's neck was stronger on one side, so he said to lay him on his side but alternate sides so that one side doesn't continue to be stronger than the other. Anyway, he is fine now
jcc64 replied: We just used a rolled up receiving blanket for all 3 kids, and it worked out fine. Those things weren't even invented yet with my 1st two.
