Silly, quirky things?
MommyToAshley wrote: Does your child do any silly quirky things that sometimes you wonder if your child is the only one?
Here's what I wonder about Ashley....
She likes to go around and smell everything. LOL. It started when I let her smell flowers that DH bought me. Now she has to smell everything, including her toys. She'll smell a chair, someone's hair, or her mega blocks. Anyone else have a toddler doing that?
She will "jump" but her feet don't leave the ground.
She is always standing on her head like she is about to do a sommersault. She has done this since around 6 or 7 months old.... and she still does it!
She doesn't climb, not really. If she needs to reach something on the couch, she will step on one of her toys to get it, but that's about it. I read some of these stories about your toddlers climbing in highchairs and on tables, and Ashley doesn't do anything like that. I am not too worried about her motor skills though because she can run, jump (not really jump, see above), kick a ball (she actually controls it with both feet like a soccer player), throw a ball, and all of the other large motor skills. I just find it odd that she has no interest in climbing. Maybe because we removed the tables out of or living room and family room?
I would love to hear if anyone else has a child doing these things... and what your child does that you think is silly or quirky.
mummy2girls replied: Jenna has quite a few...
She lays on her back and holds everything with her feet. She reminds me of a monkey. I swear she should hang in a tree in the backyrad..LOL
She needs to pick everyones noses she is sitting with. And im not saying a little of her finger goes in ...she jams her whole finger up there. And she has to inspect peoples teeth also. I call her my little dentist.
She has a fetich with Spoons. She has to have one of her own as im feeding her with another(she likes to feed herself now). And when im done if i take away the spoon she spazes so she has to have both spoons. And she will hang onto these spoons for the entire day...LOLOL
MomToJade&Jordan replied: Jade does this too. DH says she's going under center when she does it (a football term for those of you who don't know).
She does this thing where she runs up and down the hallway with her hands in the air screeching like a Banchee.
Whenever I raise my voice at something she does it too, but at the dog and she points while she's doing it. Poor Heidi.
She likes to get completely under blankets. If I'm sitting on the couch and I have the blanket over my legs she will get in my lap and make me cover us up from head to toe.
When she dances she puts her arms in the air with her index finger pointing up and bounces them like she's listening to rap music.
Gee I think that's all I can think of for the moment. I know there's more, but I think there are too many to list. Jade is a constent source of entertainment in our house.
~Daddytobe~ replied: My angel isnt born yet but i want to share one of Sharon's quirkiness.LOL.
She has a tendancy to mix up alot of things when she has worked a double shift at work. Such as Putting the milk in the cupboard and the cereal in the fridge. Putting the dirty dinner dishes in the bathroom sink. Im not quite sure how she managed to do that one. But one night I got up to use the washroom and found her plate and fork in the sink...LOL. And the funniest of all was she was getting up from only sleeping 5 hours on her way to start another shift and she left the house in her pj bottoms.... and her nurses shirt she wears. She got to the hospital and her friend noticed so i get this call from her asking to bring her pants in to work...LOL It was just to funny because the pj bottoms were of cows...LOLOL.
Sorry Hun I just had to share this...(Cory Ducking from his understanding and loving Wife)
kit_kats_mom replied: Katherine just got off the ground yesterday. She will now dance then jump in the air.
She is also a head stander. I've started helping her do somersaults. She LOVES them.
She likes to take diapers off of her teddy bear (yes, I've been putting diapers on that stupid bear for weeks) then she says "ooh eeee stinky". halarious.
She does "the monkey" when she dances.
She twirls around until she gets so dizzy then she veers off and falls down.
Recently she has been cleaning everything. Including herself. She will ask for a napkin to wipe her hands like 50 times a day.
Along those lines, she also has a thing with the bottom of her feet. She is constantly sitting down and brushing them off.
She likes to stick her finger in peoples belly buttons. If that's not bad enough, she screams when she's doing it. *I* know that but poor grandma was rather shocked when K walked up, pulled up her shirt, started screaming and stuck her finger in grannys belly.
She will run back and forth in the living room with her head back (looking up at the ceiling) and saying "wheeeeee".
I could go on and on....She's just a riot.
paradisemommy replied: man...where to begin...lol
taven is a head stander too - he loves to put his hand between his legs and wave to you too!
i obviously take WAY too many pictures of him because whenever he sees either a camera (digital or video) he says "cheeeeeeeeese"
if either dh or i are really close to the ground, he'll go over and pounce on your back and start singing "bada bump bada bump bada bump bump bump..the horsie song (sorry have no idea what song that is)"
every now and then if there are a lot of people around, he'll scrunch his nose up like he just smelled something really bad and blow out his nose and he'll go running up to everyone and keep blowing out his nose
he likes to run around the house with his head looking straight up in the air and then he'll bring his head down really fast and say "bam" or some other noise like you just hit something..
he loves to spin around in circles until he falls on the ground
this boy loves to boogie, anytime, anywhere..he'll stop bend both his knees and now moves his hands up and down while squating up and down at the same time..
he has a fascination with my undies..if i'm folding laundry he'll come over and sit in the middle of the pile and grab my undies and put them on his head...
i'll stop for now...but as you could tell, i could write pages...
MomToJade&Jordan replied: ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay I'm practically in tears imagining this. You have got to wonder where they come up woith some of this stuff.
kimberley replied: haha these are funny! Dad-to-be, did she throw the bedpan at you for posting?
Jacob was a nose picker too but now sticks to his own nose. when he was about 10 mos he had the same reaction to spaghetti as we do to turkey. we have hours of video tape of him sleeping in his spaghetti lol
James was and still is a breast man. he has a fixation with boobs. he doesn't care who you are or how old you are, he is gonna touch your breast whether you like it or not
Jade doesn't do anything really weird yet except she is a very animated sleeper. she makes a million different faces in her sleep. it is too cute
paradisemommy replied: roflmao...my sister got a boob job and last time i went home, she lifted up her shirt to model them..well out of nowhere we see two little hands (taven was 12 months old) grab them and do a charmin squish test on them...it was the funniest...i just about died..
amynicole21 replied:
Sophia's a cleaner, too. Has to have her own napkin when she's eating, and wipes her nose, face and hands obsessively. She'll even clean up her area after eating, and does a really good job!
A&A'smommy replied: okay i know alyssa is only two months old but she does some cute things too
she likes to lick her hands like they are ice cream or something and if you hand finger or anything really gets in front of her face she is either going to lick it or suck on it!!!
and when she gets frustrated she willl go really loud "OOOOOOooooo" its sooo cute!!!
when she is going to the "bathroom" she grunts and her face turns red red red "eh eh eh eh eh" its soooo funny!!
there is alot more but i will stop since she is just a baby!
kit_kats_mom replied: Katherine does the "hoT" thing too. even if the food is cold.
She also brushes her teeth forever. She must think that brusing her teeth is the s-l-o-w-e-s-t way to get a drink since all she really does is suck the water off of the bristles.
This is such a fun age!
MommyToAshley replied:
Ashley does this too, but she puts an emphasis on the "S" sound.
MommyToAshley replied: OMG! LOL!
DansMom replied: Some of Daniel's things he has in common with the others:
He stands on his head and looks at you through his legs.
He twirls around till he falls down.
He likes boobs and bellybuttons In fact, he checks them out in sequence---first he pulls the top of my shirt down and peers in saying "boom-boom", then he lifts the bottom of my shirt up and pokes my bellybutton.
He likes to dance, mostly bouncing up and down.
Daniel has a top, the big kind where you push the top of it and the bottom is stationary, for little kids. For some reason he likes to push the knob on top with his open mouth, using his front teeth, instead of his hand. Where did he come up with this?
He likes to have a grownup put a small blanket over his head and then walk around bumping into things and laughing. If you refuse to do this because you're worried he'll get hurt, he throws a fit and tries to put the blanket on his own head.
If I'm busy in the kitchen and he thinks it's time for mommy milk, he'll go all the way into the bedroom and pull the boppy off the bed, heft it up in both hands and struggle with it to the kitchen. Then he throws it at my feet! LOL! Okay, okay, I get the message!
kit_kats_mom replied: Now that is funny
ediep replied: oh man, these are hilarious!!! I have to start thinking about Jason's antics
kit_kats_mom replied: I don't know how I could have forgotten the recent additions of self abuse. She likes to smack herself on the head and she also head butts stuff. SO strange. Apparently these are only for DH and I though. I picked her up from daycare one day and she smacked herself in the head when I picked her up. The sitter said she never did that at her house. Hmmmm.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Claudia is definately a climber. She is very short and we thought that she wouldn't be able to climb a lot of the furniture because she is so short. She climbs the couch, highchair, I have these stacking shelves for her toys and she climbs those. But I would have to say that the most quirky thing she does is scoot along on her bum. She can walk, but only when she wants too, and is very content to just scoot along on her bum. Right now everything is "my daddy", her toys, food, books, brother, sister and even me are "my daddy"! When she wants to nurse she scoots over to me grabs at my clothes screaming "MY DADDY"! She is quite the character!
ediep replied: We have a little fence in front of our fireplace. He throws his toys behind there then he can;t reach them to get them out
He knows how to use a fork to eat.....well sort of....he takes a bite of food off the fork, then throws the fork on the floor....every time!!!
Sometimes I put something on the steps that I want to bring upstairs. When Jason goes upstairs, he doesn't like things sitting on the side of the step, so when he gets to that step he throws the stuff off.
hmmmmmm, now that I reread this...maybe Jason will be a major league pitcher one day
he has a facination with drawers and doors....sometimes if we are in my room, he'll open up my dresser drawer and pull my undies out!
Whenever Dh goes into the bathroom downstairs, Jason goes over and knocks on the door...they have this little game, Dh opens the door to get out and Jason closes the door.....well, we have carpenters here everyday working on our basement, so when they go to the bathroom, Jason goes to knock on the door too!
He just started this little whine/fake cry thing...he scrunches up his nose and lets out this whine when he doesn't like what we are doiing (usually shopping)
3_call_me_mama replied: Cameron does the same standing on his head thing \. He says tumble mama and does this, he can almost get himself over. He climbs everything adn will spout out random words that i'm not really sure he's ever even heard. He also love to hide stuff.. he will stick virtually anything into the couch or under stuff... the funniest thing so far seems to be when DH tells himm no he comes tearing across the room going "mama mama mama dada no" and holds up the viudeo or whatever item Dh has said no to.... we though this didn't start until they were like 5 or something !
aspenblue1 replied: Isabealla likes to pretend like she is blowing her nose she will hold the tissue up and make the sounds out of her mouth.
She also hates for her hands to be messy she will keep holding them out until they get cleaned off.
coasterqueen replied: Well, Kylie does not smell things, but I think it's something we haven't taughter her to do, kwim? She doesn't seem to stand on her head anymore either. But she climbs on everything and does jump, but her feet don't usually leave the ground.
I'm not sure if Kylie really has any silly quirks right now, unless you consider the way she likes to nurse, lol, like I can move in every direction, but that's it. LOL.
Oh, she does have to have both hands full at the same time when doing things. Like when she picks up toys she stuffs both hands full of toys, like puzzle pieces. Same thing when eating, she has to have a piece of food in both hands.
That's all I can think of.
MomToMany replied: Oh my!!! These are funny to read!!!
Hannah likes spinning in a circle til she falls down, and then she gets back up and does it again!
She just started jumping with her feet actually leaving the floor.
She stands on her head, too, then Ethan comes and flips her over !
Just a few of her quirky/goofy things!
jen replied: I have been ROFL!!! These are so funny and cute!!!!!
MomToJade&Jordan replied: LOL!!!! Jade is always pulling my shirt down to look at my boobs. She uses them for a storgae space, I don't even think I can list all of the things she has put down there. She hasn't nursed in a very long time so I have no idea what her fixation is.
