She's talking us to death

kit_kats_mom wrote: OMG. From about 6pm till bedtime at 9, Katherine is just a loud little motormouth. I mean she can not shut up. wacko.gif She isn't usually even saying anything either. It's either random words, repeating what she's already said or sometimes, nonsence words with occasional manical laughter thrown in for kicks. rolleyes.gif She's driving us nuts!

Anyone else's 2 1/2 year olds just start the chatterbox phase? I expect it won't get any better since the 3 year old "why's" are just around the corner but I can hope...right? Lord help us if we try to watch a TV show or something during that time. It turns into nothing but an exercise in irriation for all involved parties. dry.gif

On the plus side of all of this talking, I took her with me to run errands yesterday and two people asked how old she was. They were both shocked when I said 2 & 1/2 and said that she's speaking really well for that age & that they would have guessed 3 based on her verbal skills. happy.gif

coasterqueen replied: It is soooooo funny you mention this! Kylie doesn't stop talking 24/7, every waking moment! No joke! I've been calling her chatty Kathy lately. tongue.gif

Most times she's mumbling, not making much sense and other times she is and she repeats things a bazillion times. It's driving me BONKERS. wacko.gif

When we went to the doc yesterday he said "wow, she's only 2.5.....she is talking so clearly". I said "yeah she does and I'm shocked she can spell her name too". So he asked her to spell her name and she did and the doctor was blown away. I figured it was common for this age. happy.gif He then said "first children are always so much smarter, not to say Megan won't be, but you have more time for first children." So that made me think all day how much more time I'll need to spend with Megan just to prove him wrong. tongue.gif

Glad to know we aren't the only ones going through the chatty stage. WHEW!

Yep, Hannah talks non-stop too. She talks to herself if no one is around. It's quite funny!

Kaitlin'smom replied: oh ya Kaitlin is starting to talk up a storm most days and she loves to repet you, I ask her then are you just repeting everyting I say and she will say ya its cute most of the time. blink.gif

texasp3 replied: LOL! I can vividly remember telling Michael that I absolutely HAD to have it quiet for five minutes... just FIVE minutes... PLEASE JUST FIVE MINUTES!!!!!!! rolling_smile.gif Especially when we were in the car together... OMG... yak yak yak ... mostly nonsense and a lot of the time just noise. laugh.gif

Oh... and I don't know about first children being "smarter" but they certainly tend to develop strong verbal skills early - mostly because they spend the majority of their home time around adults who use adult language patterns - so that's what they have to go by. Siblings who come along later have their older brother and sisters, with less developed language skills, to pattern their language on... it's really kind of interesting. Michael talked late, but when he did it was in a very adult manner. I'll be very curious to see if Gabriel does the same thing.

DVFlyer replied: oooohhhh. I'm getting so excited for Chloe to start talking wink.gif (other than the babbling she does now which is harmless and cute.

MomToJade&Jordan replied: LOL!!!!! Well I'm glad Jade isn't the only one who does this. Girl is a non-stop talker. I was upstairs trying to watch CSI Miami last night and she was was just a chattering away in my ear. It could ne nonsense and then clear 4 or 5 word sentences. I get that same I've grown two heads look when I tell people she is only 2 and 1/2. With the talking and the height people think she's 4.

amynicole21 replied: I can TOTALLY relate! Funny thing is she clams up around anyone new, so we always get asked... awwww, can she talk? Ummm, yea! You should have heard her 5 minutes ago!

Cary, are you telling me that K isn't asking "WHY?" every 3 seconds yet? Guess we got lucky with an "advanced" one in that department, too! rolleyes.gif

Kirstenmumof3 replied: wacko.gif OMG, this is Claudia! She does not stop talking from the moment she wakes up to the moment she goes to bed! And the "WHY'S" are driving me crazy! But she has been going through the WHY phase for a while, so I'm hoping that it will be over soon! wacko.gif

DansMom replied: Daniel is talkative, but not like that LOL! He has contemplative times where he reads books or examines mechanisms without speaking. Except when he is having a tantrum, he is mute in public, especially when strangers ask him a question. My older sister was like Katherine though. Still is! In high school her nickname was Constant Comment... biggrin.gif I love chatterboxes smile.gif

ediep replied: thats cute! Jason is a talker too! He is still talking about the circus that we went o on saturday! HE really clams up around strangers too.

MommyToAshley replied: OMG, can Ashley talk... about anything and everything! rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

She loves to talk on the phone. Everyone knows when they call here that they will most likely talk to Ashley as well. She'll start out with Hello "person's name" and actually pause for a hello back. THen she will say, "what are you doing?" and then pause for a response. But, that is the last pause of the conversation, the next 5 to 10 minutes is Ashley talking about whatever she is doing at the moment, what she did at the library, what she colored, what she ate for lunch, she will talk about whatever Mommy and Daddy are doing, she will mention it is too cold to go outside and then talk about what she is going to do at the park when it gets warm, and so on and on and on. She usually ends with "Are you coming over?" And if it is Mamal Papal, then they get an I love you and kisses blown.

What was I thinking when I couldn't wait for her to talk? emlaugh.gif

kit_kats_mom replied:
See, that's what I'm saying! rolling_smile.gif

I am relishing the coos and ahh's from Lauren right now...somehow, not irritating at all. wink.gif How am I going to handle the both of them chattering away? It will be just like this only in stereo!

Seriously, it's fun when I'm not trying to do anything else but geez, from the moment that she's not the center of attention, it starts.

know of any good earplugs? rolling_smile.gif

Sunflower04 replied: Joey is talking tons now too. Yesterday I went to pick him up from daycare and he introduced me to all the kids in his class, all by their first names.

My Dh and I also notice that if we are talking Joey has to talk over us and will continue to do so until we stop and look at him. Does anyone else's little one do this?

Josie83 replied: Cassie loves to talk but I love to lisen to her, you can have some good conversations with her. She likes to ask why too, but she actually listens to what you tell her because she loves to know how things work. She LOVES big words wub.gif I like hearing her talk! She doesn't really babble nonsense though. She does talk to herself sometimes, but she is usually pretending that me or Jasona re with her and she's talking to us if that makes sense wub.gif xx

My2Beauties replied: rolleyes.gif Oh how I can't wait until the wonderful 2's rolleyes.gif

Hanna will be 16 months soon and she says words a lot, repeats them over and over again...she says dada for everything and duck and dog dog! tongue.gif Then of course when she tries to say more than one word together in turns into babble! It's cute right now but from the looks of it I am in for it!
