She passed the entrance exam!!
Maddie&EthansMom wrote: Maddie had her entrance exam yesterday at the private school. I had to leave her there and she met with 2 teachers. The exam was about 45 mins. They called today to let me know that she did really well and to set up the parent interview for Thursday or sometime next week. Are we really talking about sending my baby girl to Kinder already??? Someone pinch me!!! I just can't believe it!
She walked into that school yesterday so big like and was so excited to be there. She didn't even cry when I left her!!
ammommy replied: Yeah Maddie!
What do they test for? Mostly socialization readiness or actual academics? Just wondering.
GavinsMommy replied: Aw, that is so exciting!! Good for her!!!
Don't be sad, it's better that she is happy and excited about it. It will make it easier on both of you. It would be much harder if she was crying for you and you could do nothing.
Hugs!

Kirstenmumof3 replied: WTG MADDIE! That's awesome!
ediep replied: WTG Maddie! I knew she would pass!! She is a smarty!!!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Socialization readiness mostly. They make them write their names as well. I guess they just want to talk with the students to see if they are ready for kinder. She had to throw a ball, catch it and walk on a balance beam. These are the only things she told me about.
Kaitlin'smom replied: WTG Maddie
DansMom replied: Wow, that's great news!! I can just imagine the mixed feelings... my little baby is a big girl. Yikes!!

MommyToAshley replied: WTG Maddie! She is one smart cookie, I had no doubt that she would pass!
I can't believe they have a 45-minute test for kinder though!

I believe most schools, including public (at least here in NY) have some sort of kindergarten readiness screening. I remember my boys doing similiar kinds of things, which are really tests designed to see if the child is showing any deficits in the major areas of age appropriate development (gross motor, fine motor, etc). In public school, it is so the district can predict/prepare for any special accomodations or services, and for enrollment predictions. I don't think anyone actually fails the screening, kwim? Private school of course is a different story. They are entitled to select their students based on any number of criteria. Aimee, I'm glad Maddie's interview went well, and I hope that her school experience is everything you hope it will be.
