Semi stupid question

Maddie&EthansMom wrote: We have a brand new gas stove that we need to install. Right now we have an electric stove so I guess we need to run a gas line for the gas stove??

Do we call a plumber for this? I need to call and get some quotes on how much this will cost us, but I wasn't sure who to call and can't get ahold of Scotty right now.

Thx! thumb.gif

alice&arik replied: LOL!! rolling_smile.gif I have no idea. My guess would call the electrician since you have an electric right now. He might have to do something with the wires or something. And he might know who else to call.

Sorry I am not much help! blush.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: hummm I really dunno, I dont have gas, but I am guessing some sort of line has to be run but I have no clue who to call.....and electrician?

LOL unless they have gas men.......sorry I am no help

A&A'smommy replied: wouldn't you call a gas company? hmm I dunno if dh was here he would know unsure.gif

booey2 replied:
Yup you call your gas company and they will either do it or give you a few referrals for people that are authorized to do it.

TANNER'S MOM replied: you need to call your local gas company. They have to do it, and make sure there are no leaks and everything working proper.

coasterqueen replied: I agree you will need to call your local gas company. Do you already have natural gas or propane in your home?

I know it can get expensive depending on where your kitchen is located in the house, etc. At least it does when it comes to running propane lines. dry.gif

Boys r us replied: Pretty sure you just call the gas company.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: We were going to switch to a gas stove in our house when we moved in (it had an electric hook up) and we called the gas company. They said we could do it ourselves if we wanted to but we'd need a permit. I'm not sure if you'd need a permit to have the gas company do it though. So yeah you should call them. wink.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
We have gas in our home. Our fireplace is gas and we also have a gas line in the sunroom for a heater (which is right next to the kitchen) I don't think it would be a big deal to run it. Hopefully it won't cost too much. I know if the gas company does it it will be higher.

I thought plumbers were licensed to do this. dunno.gif I do know that you have to be licensed. It is quite scary if you ask me.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Thanks guys! I'll call the gas company and start there! thumb.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I looked on their website. It has a list of local plumbers who are authorized to do it. wink.gif I thought that sounded right. I guess gas plumbing and water plumbing are similar. Who knows. Anyway, I've called them for an estimate. We'll just have to wait and see how much this will cost us. I may not be getting a gas stove anytime soon. unsure.gif

MomToMany replied: I have a gas stove (and love it!). At least you know where to look now.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
I love gas, too. biggrin.gif I can't cook worth a dang on this electric stove, but have gotten better. I grew up with gas and it is just the best, IMO. wink.gif

A&A'smommy replied: I like gas better too it cooks more evenly and well its just easier! tongue.gif

MomofJandB replied: Yep, definitely a plumber! When we finished our basement, I put my laundry room down there with a gas dryer. We have a friend who is a plumber and we had him run gas lines everywhere...fireplace, deck, behind the stove and where the dryer is. Three years later they are all being used!!! I love my gas stove! That's our newest addition.

My2Beauties replied: Yeah I like gas better too, it cooks better! I was going to say call the gas company, but if you found a plumber than that is great, sorry I caught this late, just wanted to let you know I like gas better than electric too!

Kirstenmumof3 replied: I think you need to call your gas company to hock up a line. thumb.gif

coasterqueen replied: You know people say they like gas better but I just don't understand it. tongue.gif We grew up with gas and I truly actually like electric better. The flames of the gas just scare the living daylights out of me with children around. Bad memories, I guess, hee hee. I'm just a weirdo I think. tongue.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
You aren't weird. I know so many people who just aren't comfortable with gas (including Scotty). wink.gif Professionals use gas b/c it is a higher heat. I cook a lot (I'm no professional, I just LOVE cooking) and maybe that is why I like the gas stove better. It just suits the type of cooking I do. wink.gif I've lived with this darn electric stove for 4 YEARS! I'm SO ready to get rid of it. rolleyes.gif

kimberley replied:
haha Karen, you might prefer a gas stove if you actually cooked laugh.gif rolling_smile.gif . i have had both and preferred the gas for the control and temp. but do feel safer with the electric now that i have kids.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
rolling_smile.gif Well, isn't that true! laugh.gif Just laughing with you, Karen. wink.gif
