Scary occurence at the kids' school today

Brias3 wrote: So today in the kids take home mailboxes when I picked them up was a note. It was from the principal and she was explaining how they had a lock-down at the school today. Apparently, the town police alerted the school late this morning that they had responded to a domestic violence call in close proximity to where their school is and the suspect had fled. They believed he was armed at the time. Apparently all the students had to be moved into rooms with no windows and Aliyah reported that the kindergarten wing was moved into their walk-in coat closets. Allegedly, he was threatening to enter the school when he escaped police reports his wife who made the report call in to the station. I guess the kids were told that it was a hurricane drill but my little voice of reason rolleyes.gif Ryan was more blatant- I got the whole "Mom, it was NOT a drill, there was some hardened criminal on the loose!" laugh.gif (Not that the situation was funny, just his comment and how he said it) The guy was caught within a few hours time fortunately. Still, in light of recent national events, how SCARY. However, I am relieved to hear that schools do at least have a plan in place for this type of event. Apparently, all the teachers know the operation when the code message they came up with is sent over the intercom system.

Needless to say, my nerves were on edge when I picked them up and heard about all this! It's so scary to think that someplace we send our kids everyday that we think is safe could be just the opposite in a situation like that. Boy, did I send extra prayers up for the families of all who have lost kids through school shootings this week.

Nina J replied: ohmy.gif I'm glad everything was okay, it reminds me of a situation in my area a few years ago (sorry to hijack your post blush.gif ), anyway, this man suspected his wife of having an affair. They got into a fight, a physical fight, and he left there farm with a shotgun. The police were calling in at houses close to theres warning people to stay inside. Unfortunatly, they found the man. He'd commited suicide, he had two little girls sleep.gif

mom2my2cuties replied: I heard about this on the news...How scary it must have been for those teachers!

Glad everyone was ok - and it was funny what your son said - Amazing to me - No matter how we try to hide things from the kids, they do see right through us and pick up on things.

amynicole21 replied: ohmy.gif OMG - that is scary!! ohmy.gif There was a lockdown at my girls' daycare a few months ago because a kid brought a gun to the school down the street. The SWAT team came in and he was killed sadly. sleep.gif Turned out it was an airgun that he painted to make it look real.

Anyway, I'm so glad that the school was so prepared for that kind of emergency! thumb.gif

mckayleesmom replied: Wow...that is scary. Kudo's to your school for having a plan to keep the kids safe.

C&K*s Mommie replied: That is scary. ohmy.gif I keep thinking of Kimberley's post the other day about her old school, and the daycare that is within the school where her children are at.

My oldest is playing hookie today from school (extra day of sleep for her) but I will be calling her teacher to inquire about preliminary measures they take in emergencies such as that.

kristy-n-chad replied: How scary! ohmy.gif I am glad everyone is ok!

CantWait replied: WOW that really is scary. Robbie's school did a mock lock down yesterday. Very comforting to know that they practice these, however unfortunate they it needs to be done.

gr33n3y3z replied: Thats good I'm glad more schools are doing this
Our outer doors of the school are always in lock down and only the school employees have swipe cards to enter

Crystalina replied: How terrible! It makes you want to lock-down your own kids....in the house never to leave. sad.gif

TheOaf66 replied: glad nothing happened and that there is one less lunatic on the streets thumb.gif

3_call_me_mama replied: Our local highschool is currently STILL under lockdown.... form today. Jsut found out form a friend.. Apparently someone dressed in camouflauge carrying a gun was seen arounf teh perimeteres of teh school and in teh parking lot. Dont' know all teh details but it IS opening day of some hunting season I believe so who knows. But teh kids are still there, helicopters are in the air and the student have not been allowed to call anyone (according to officials)

PrairieMom replied: How scary!
