Said goodbye to my furgirl - Oatmeal
MyBrownEyedBoy wrote: I let the ferrets out of their cage this morning and when I did I took the time (for some unknown reason) to watch Oatmeal. She kinda dawdled out of the cage and slid across the floor on her stomach. Then she tried to go upstairs. Oh God, it broke my heart. She scrambled up 4 stairs (and it was hard for her to do) then she gave up, and came back down. I knew it was time for me to say goodbye. I called the vet and made an appointment for this afternoon at 4pm. Logan and I took her in and said our goodbyes (well I did anyway). We are having her cremated and her ashes will be returned to us. This is one of the few pictures I have of her. I guess I am not much of a furry mom to not have any better pictures, but in my defense, ferrets don't hold still at all, ever.
This is a close up of Oatmeal in the cage, I cropped Logan out of the picture so it may be blurry.
This is Oatmeal and Gravy, Oaty is the one at the bottom, Gravy is eating.
luvmykids replied: I know it's been hard for you to see her feeling less and less like herself. It's so tough to have to make the choice for them but you did the right thing
redchief replied: Sorry, Kelly. I know how much your ferrets mean to you.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Thanks, Ed and Monica. I know they are rat-like and most people are kinda freaked out by them, but I really do love my girlies. Gravy's been a bit out of sorts this afternoon. Kind of like she's looking for Oatmeal, but her brain's so small that it seems like she forgets what she's doing pretty rapidly. I hope she doesn't miss Oaty too much.

ashtonsmama replied: My younger sister Kat had a ferret too (named Moby) who she just had to let go of this past spring, and she felt the same way. The loss of a pet is always hard, no matter how small they are. My older sister actually has to put down their oldest dog tomorrow...and I know it's going to be hard, especially when they have to explain it to the kids...
Lots of prayers to Oatmeal as she "crosses over" into her little heaven.
amynicole21 replied: I'm so sorry I had to do this with my cat a few months ago and know just how difficult a decision it is. I hope you find peace with it and know that you did the right thing.

my2monkeyboys replied: Just wanted to say that I feel your pain... I had 2 ferrets, and the fm Pinkie was the oldest. The male Floyd died in his cage at about 2 years old (they say from heart attack, though we didn't do an autopsy of course), and I had to put Pinkie to sleep. She had been through a surgery a few years before from eating styrofoam and it caused a severe blockage. When she was just over 8 though there was just nothing they could do for her. She was so skinny and her hair was falling out... I just loved her to pieces. I'm so sorry.... RIP Oatmeal.
My3LilMonkeys replied: I'm so sorry Kelly. I know how hard it is to make that decision.
