3_call_me_mama replied: I don't have a whole lot to asy abou tthis other than in my heart I really dpon't see how it proves anything. Hanging a person just makes me sick to my stomache. I dont' think anything he did was right or justifiable, but it doesn't make it right by hanging him. I'm not sure what should be done to him and glad I'm not in the position that I have to decide that!!
J-rod replied: 1. it wasnt our place to go in there to begin with BUT since we did now we must finish
2. shoulda shot him in the hole he was hiding. woulda saved us millions in a trial by using a $.39 bullet.
3. it wont prove anything or deter anyone/anything else from doing the same
CantWait replied: Well it's my opinion that the U.S. had no right to invade Iraq this time, therefore they captured Sadam under false pretenses. They had their chance before to arrest him, however instead they waited till years later, until they snuck in to do the dirty work, and made up a completly fabricated story.
Thank God Canada didn't follow suit on this one.
gr33n3y3z replied: very true but we needed info its ashame it cost the us millions
But I dont want my tax dollars to go to him to keep him alive either
J-rod replied: AGREE
but
what useful info did sadam give?
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I completely agree with you Marie.
I'm still miffed about the budget reallocations for recruitment though. As if Military recruitment should be our first priority. Yay for our conservative pro-war Bush-friendly idiot prime minister...
Can you guess who I didn't vote for?
jem0622 replied: I am thinking of all of his victims in the Middle East. I am sure that they want to have some peace (if such a thing is possible amongst so much turmoil), and his execution would be a relief.
As an American, I do not think his execution will change anything involving the war on terror because there are new generations evolving and it will be a constant fight.
luvbug00 replied: personaly I'm all for torturing him in the most inhumane way possible and having him die a slow and agonizing death. but that's just me.
My3LilMonkeys replied: I disagree with it. I am 100% against the death penalty though.
mom2my2cuties replied: Well, I think Saddam is scum and should die for his crimes, however, I am not really sure how I feel about all of it to be honest. 100% for the war, 100% for our troops and believe while we may not know everything about why we went over, those who speculate true intent of someone else and stoops to name calling does nothing but make themselves look like donkeys.
For those who keep up with this kind of thing, his execution is set for 10pm EST.
PS - the donkey comment wasn't directed at Dems (since i know that is thier "symbol") Nor anyone on here...It's just something I have been thinking all day. Things are getting pretty heated around here about the Pro/Anti Bush/War crap.
Nina J replied: I don't beleive in capitol punishment, there are better ways to make a person pay for there crimes. Saddam killed and tourtered an unbelievable amount of people, he should've been put in a windowless room with a bed and a bucket, given just enough food to survive and left there forever. But, in a few hours he's going to hang and he's pretty happy about it, he thinks he's going to be a martyr. IMO, it's the easy way out..he'll suffer for 15 minutes, 45 minutes tops if they stuff up his hanging. Then he's gone, he payed with his life but they could've made him suffer for years for what he's done to innocent people.
Cece00 replied: Let's go for it...the sooner the better. I'm a big supporter for capital punishment. I'm tired of hearing about him, he's so darn smug about being such a POS and murdering ppl. He's no martyr...not sure how I feel about religion but either a) there is no afterlife and again, he will be no martyr, or there IS an afterlife and he'll suffer forever...either way, its all good for him to go ahead & be hung...hopefully the hanging doesnt kill him right away & he suffers really horribly for a few minutes.
Nina J replied: He should be dead now. Even though I don't support capitol punishment, I hope they botched his hanging. If they stuff it up it's not a nice way to go, I hope he suffered.
msoulz replied: ITA Jrod.
And I wil add it that while it won't deter anyone else, he will never harm another human again.
However, those who believed in him are still out there and it is a scary thing to ponder how much violence will go on now in retribution for this.
I think George W. will not be looked upon favorably in the history books.
I wish I had "the" answer to this whole thing, but how do you stop people who have been fighting forever from fighting? And what made us think we could or had the right to do so?
Crystalina replied:
He is. He has just been executed.
Kentuckychick replied: I honestly was just watching the tv and kept asking myself "Am I supposed to be happy? Relieved? What?" Really, I'm none of the above.
I have never been a supporter of the death penalty... not because I'm all against the inhumanity or any of that kind of thing, but because I honestly don't think it's fair that those who cause suffering in the world get the "easy out" leaving behind those for whom they've caused the suffering.
So I don't see it as Saddam has to die... I see it rather as Saddam GETS to die.
He shouldn't.
Nina J replied: I'm getting confused. The American government had nothing to do with his sentence, or do they? The American troops caught him, but he was tried in Iraq..I thought the US stayed out of his trial
skinkybaby replied: The Iraqis tried him
Nina J replied: Thought so. Was he only tried for the Shi'ite massacre?
Crystalina replied: I personally think he should have been put in a huge room with the families of the people he killed and tortured. They should have each been given a bat and been able to do with him what they wanted. It sounds really harsh but can it really be harsh compared to the things he's done to people? I think not.
Now they are going to waste perfectly good air time and have him on every channel for the next couple of days.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I'm glad he won't be able to hurt anyone ever again, and I support capital punishment - but at the same time I can't feel any joy over the death of another human being. I believe that he is suffering far more now for his crimes than life in prison could have ever made him suffer. I am glad that it's over though, and I'm sure the families of his victims are too.
skinkybaby replied: That was the only trial that actually finished and convicted him. There is currently a trial going on for the genocide of thousands of Kurds.
