SUV/ Truck owners..
Calimama wrote: My hubby and I are thinking about trading my car in for either a truck or an SUV. I need something 4 door's and not too terrible on gas.
For those of you who have 4 door SUV'S or Truck's.. what kind do you have and do you like it? How is it on gas?
redchief replied: I have an '01 Chevy Tahoe. It's a great little truck and has not been a maintenance problem. Gas mileage on ours isn't so hot, but the technology in the newer ones make it much better on gas.
lisar replied: I have a 2001 Dodge Durango V8 4x4. And it sucks on gas. It takes me fifty dollars to fill the thing and I can get about 280 miles on that full tank. Better than some but worse than others. If you want an SUV thats good on gas look for a 6 cylinder. Not a V8. Hope that helps.
AngieS replied: I think it all depends if you want to stick with an "american" car or a foreign one. I lived in Michigan for years and drove a Subaru and got dirty looks for it. Although times are changing since Toyota and Honda now have major plants here. I have always been a fan of Honda -- I hear they are good on gas, very safe and their warranties cant be beat.
moped replied: We have a 2006 Trailblazer - love it love it but it is a bit of a pig on gas.......if you want an SUV good on gas check out hte Honda - I like those too. The trailblazer is a great ride, but a pig too - take the good with the bad
paradisemommy replied: we have a 2005 toyota highlander and i absolutely love it..we got the v4 and it's ok on gas, not bad when you compare it to the other v6s...
Boys r us replied: We have 2 SUV's. A Chevy Tahoe and a Subaru B9 Tribeca. The tahoe gets around 20 mpg and the subaru gets a good bit better..however requires premium fuel!
Have you seen the new honda CRV? They look really cute now!
mom2my2cuties replied: We had a Ford Escape for a while - Compact SUV - 4 Doors - And it got almost 30 miles to the Gallon. But honestly, it didn't have any more room than a Ford Taurus in it...Just it was an SUV
ediep replied: this is what we have too
They come in hybrid now, so that would be even better on gas
Crystalina replied: Well, we have a chevy S10 that isn't bad on gas. We also have a Chevy Silverado (cubcab) this is a killer on gas. We tolerate it though because it looks good and is nice and comfy for all of us to ride in. To fill the Silverado up it takes about $75-80 depending on gas prices at the time of fillup. We try not to let it get down that far though.
TANNER'S MOM replied: We have 03 Quad Cab 4x4 Dodge pick up and it's high dollar on gas.. around 15 mpg and thats highway miles 14.6 in town.. but it has lots of room and drives like a dream and turns on a dimes..and pulls so well.
One thing that gets me is when you got to look at these SUV's they don't come with 4x4.. I can't buy the price unless I have the 4x4.. I need it though.. in all our years of marriage we have never not had a 4 wheel drive.
CantWait replied: We have had in the past a GMC Jimmy, and I DO NOT reccomend it. Easily breaks down and needs repairs and is bad on gas.
Word of warning also. I know you really want an SUV, however be careful because once you add the price of the car to trade it in for the new vehicle, your payments will go sky high. We've made this mistake in the past and are still paying for it so to speak.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: We had a 7-seater extended Chevy Uplander for about 5 months. It was GREAT on gas... but it's a crinkle-car.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: We have a VW Toureg and I believe it's a gas guzzler. It's DH's car, so I'm not totally sure, but I think most SUVs are. We love it though! Doesn't feel like a truck. Smooth on the road. We're a total VW family!
MyLuvBugs replied: We have a Saturn Vue that gets about 23-27 MPG, but it's way too small for us now with 2 kids. It was great with just the one though. We also have a Dodge Durango and we get about 16-21 MPG with it. It's much much bigger and fits us all very nicely.
Calimama replied: Thanks for all the feedback everyone!!
Swood75 replied: I have a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee..I love it..it usually gets about 19 mpg in town and probably around 22-23 hwy mpg..And it has plenty of room for the 4 of us..
punkeemunkee'smom replied: We have an 06 Chevy 2500 4X4 crew-cab. The gas mileage is not good but it is so comfortable and nice! I love it....even with the gas and payments!
J-rod replied: most suv's in the range have the same gas mileage give or take a few. im a ford guy but the ford SUV's are lacking.
we have jeeps. and love them
you may also consider an AWD car.
TheOaf66 replied: Jeep Cherokees seem to be the middle ground...they are ok on gas and have good room. It depends on your needs, the next vehicle I get is going to be a truck for hauling etc so I need something with the open bed in the back.
J-rod replied: very true about the jeeps. id like to have a F-250 diesel CC.... but thats 50k i can spend elsewhere. lol
jcc64 replied: We have a 97 Nissan Pathfinder, which we bought used. I like it fine, it's not great on gas, but it's reliable and maintenence free despite its 150K+ miles. Nissans are like the poor man's Honda or Toyota.
luvmykids replied: I had an Excursion and hated it. Hated, hated, hated it. I would literally get stuck in parking lots because the aisles were too narrow and I couldn't get out. And at 10 miles to the gallon....no thanks.
Having said that, it was great when all seven of us decided on impulse to drive to San Diego and we had room for everyone and everything. And today I would have loved to have four wheel drive again.
I want a Jeep Commander next time.
J-rod replied: i used to HATE those things... but the more i see them and research them i like them more... im wanting to buy steph a new jeep...then ill keep the old one, and be able to finally have another stang....cause right now a stang as a DD is a very bad choice for WV winters.
luvmykids replied: Yeah, I didn't have a lot of luck with the Charger today. I underestimated the winter up here in the mountains
