Re-doing bathroom - question

mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: We're going to re-do our 1/2 bath on the main floor. It's a very small space, so we're starting there and then maybe we'll head up to our master bath in a few months.

My question: For re-sale value, do you think it's important to have all bathroom faucets (meaning every bathroom in the house) match?

Is it important to you if you were looking for a new house? Or does it not really matter in your opinion, meaning you like the idea of each bathroom having it's own look?

hoosier momma replied: On the advice from my dad who built homes for many years, it isn't important that they match just that the quality matches throughout the home. That means for everything. You shouldn't have one bath or even a kitchen with top of the line fixtures and then have another with middle of the road. KWIM? Also, the style of them should somewhat flow, like all modern or all classic. HTH

luvmykids replied: I don't think they all have to match, I agree they should all be of the same quality though.

Calimama replied:
I agree as well. Good luck, I hope the re-do goes smoothly for you! wink.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: I personally wouldn't care if they all matched, as long as they went with the decor of the rest of the room it's in. For example, our living room is pretty rustic with wrought iron. We recently replaced the ceiling fan with an updated one with dark mahogany tones and dark iron, because our old one was from the 80's...old oak with grandma-ish lights...blah! It doesn't look exactly like the other ceiling fans but each one goes with whatever room it's in.

It is not important that the faucets throughout the house match, but it is important that the faucets in the bathroom (that is the lavatory, shower, etc.) in each bathroom match. It is also important that bathroom accessories and lighting be considered when designing a bathroom. For instance, if you choose chrome faucets and fixtures, the lighting should be sharp and clean, the colors contrasting. If you're choosing softer finishes that are popular today or gold, bathroom colors should be softer and the color choices complimentary and uncluttered.

The style of the building should also be considered in your design. Nothing looks more out of place than a Victorian bathroom in a contemporary styled home. When you choose your faucets and fixtures consider the room or area of the home the bathroom user is coming from. The style should flow into the room unless your purpose is to create an obvious contrast. If so, the contrast should be self-explanatory or the bathroom will not feel right.

Finally, the size of the bathroom is important to the choices you should make in faucets and fixtures. Big, bulky faucets and fixtures (like large handles, high spouts, heavy looking toilets and pedestal sinks) look like they crowd out a smaller bathroom and it will feel stuffy and like it's closing in on the user. Oppositely, smaller faucets and fixtures get totally lost in a larger bathroom.

redchief replied:
FYI, wrought iron styling is available in at least three manufacturers' faucet lines. The Moen line is quite sharp.

HuskerMom replied: If I was buying a house I probably wouldn't even notice if all the faucets matched. As long as they fit the room they're in then I don't think they all have to match smile.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: nope... but if you have chrome everywhere, bronze or gold plated faucets somewhere else wouldn't be for me - i'd think to myself that those have got to go. tongue.gif

I'm confused about what you're saying here....I've been reading it over and over again and I'm not sure if you're saying that yes, all bathroom faucets throughout the house should match. Or no. Sorry. We have 3.5 baths in our home. The main floor has the 1/2 bath which is what we're re-doing. Currently, all our bathrooms have the same chrome faucets. Not nice chrome IMO, but probably the lowest you would find anywhere...something you would find in a motel IMO with the acrylic pull-up knob. So I like the new brushed dark stained finishes (I don't know the real name) because it goes with a lot of the dark wood and metals I have throughout the house. And they had one on sale at Home Depot. That's why I asked the question. Do I buy the ONE on sale and then regret that I can't match them later on when we want to re-do the rest of our bathrooms?

Aghhhh, I'm sorry to be all over the place. The people that had this house before us put chrome and gold and brass like EVERYWHERE!! So if I want to change something, I have to change it ALL and we don't have the money to do that. So I just can't decide.

Ed, we're actually thinking of a pedestal sink in the 1/2 bath because I just LOVE the look of it. But our toilet is small and I wouldn't go with large fixtures and stuff. So really the focal point would be the sink and probably a cool oval mirror above it. Does that work even if it's a super small 1/2 bath? Your "rules" said no.

Thanks for everyone's input! It does help...but I'm still not sure what to pick!

Cece00 replied: I, personally, would not care, and I probably would never notice if they were not.
