Rash on 11 week old - on her face

shelbysmom wrote: Hello! My baby girl has rash on her face. Its on her forehead and sides. I believe it itches her cause, she will take her hands and rub that area. Any suggestions on what I can put on it?
Thanks !!!!!
Stacey

kit_kats_mom replied: probably excema. Try aquaphor.

shelbysmom replied: Thank you! I will try it today! Could it be ezcema, even though there is no history of it in my family?

kit_kats_mom replied: yep. sure can. Neither DH nor I nor any of our immediate famiy members have excema. However, both of my girls have mild cases of it.

shelbysmom replied: Did it go away? At what age? How many times a day did you apply the aquaphor? Thanks Again! wavey.gif

JP&KJMOM replied: From a mom with a dd that has had severe excema. Aquaphor is the best lotion but it can also make your dd hot because it is thick which in turns makes it itch worse. If her face is the only place she has it then you should be ok with just lotion but if she begins to get it other places (legs, arms, body) then take her to either ped. or dermotologist and get prescription. Mine dd is 3 and has finally began to grow out of it somewhat. Just remember heat, hot water and just getting to warm makes it worse. Good luck.

kit_kats_mom replied: well, my oldest got it on her legs last year. She said that the water hurt during baths so we took her to the derm and he gave us a perscription. He warned us to only use the steroid cream when the rash was the worst & to rely on scent free lotions and oatmeal baths to keep her comfortable the rest of the time. K's gets worse in the winter so we give her aveeno oatmeal baths once a day and slather on the aveeno baby frangrance free moisture cream. I used the aquaphor on her when the rash was a bit worse.
So far, Lauren has it on her face and I put the aquaphor on and it cleared up within 24 hours. Now I just dab some on if she starts getting red. I'm all about nipping it in the bud before it gets really bad & uncomfortable.

kimberley replied: another mom of an eczema baby here. my son (now 7yo) has had severe eczema since he was a baby. i definitely recommend seeing a dermatologist because there are only certain creams/ointments that are ok to use on the face. part of the reason being, if they get it in their eyes, they can cause blindness. could it be allergy related? does it come certain times of day? after certain foods? could it be something as simple as baby acne?

JP&KJMOM replied: Yes using steriod creams are only if it gets real bad. I agree with woever said nip it in the bud before it gets bad. Thats the best. Also as young as she is you might think about not giving her a bath everyday just wash the 'dirty' areas and give her a bath every few days but make it quick and not too hot water.

I have always been told with dd that allergies is what causes excema too? Have others with it ever been told that? Dd always gets worse when she eats strawberries or anything with strawberries in it.

kimberley replied: my son has allergies which are a major contributing factor to his eczema. my son is very allergic to cat dander, dust and pork and does break out when in contact with either. environment matters too. dry winter months are much worse and require constant rehydration of his trouble areas. ITA about the baths. keep them short and infrequent. don't use bubble bath or regular soap (baby dove is okay) and hydrate problem areas 2-3 times after a bath. his room was the biggest problem with dust. we have since gotten mattress and pillow covers, *1* blanket, no rugs/carpet, no stuffed toys and a blind as opposed to curtains. and keep a vaporizing running by the bed. it made the world of difference.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Wil had it pretty bad when he was an infant too...I used Aquaphor ointment and a prescription Elidel (I think it's called) from the doctor. It was like $150 for a big tube and we only had to use it for awhile...wish I could sell it to you! Anyhow, if they do prescribe it to you, try and get a small tube, it goes a long way. I didn't really have a choice.

shelbysmom replied: Thanks everyone for the info. I went and bought the aquaphor today, and put some on. It is onlyon her face so, hopefully it won't be to bad!!

MyLuvBugs replied: Go to the doctor and see if they can give you some hydracortizone. We had to do that for Lorelei b/c her baby acne turned into a HORRIBLE case of eczema that was peeling and everything. You have to get a certain type of hydracortizone, so don't just go to the drugstore. Go to your doctor and have them check her out. smile.gif It'll be ok. Their skin is still growing, so there shouldn't be any side effects from it. hug.gif
