Question for members who visit from work
My3LilMonkeys wrote: I am just curious as I see quite a few people read/post from work - do your companies not have internet usage policies? Or do people just choose not to follow them?
Our company internet policy is so strict I would never be able to visit here from work. They monitor our usage daily, and at the end of the month you may get an email from our IT department questioning the need for certain web pages. For example, last month I had to order a flower arrangement for a coworker who had surgery and I did it online. At the end of the month I received an email from our IT manager asking me to detail the reason why I had visited 3 different floral sites that day.
I am not trying to criticize anyone or anything - I am just curious.
kayla's mama replied: When I was working I would visit often only because were so slow and I really didn't care about their policy. I was leaving anyway
jacobsmama replied: I use to visit from work but they did make a rule about internet but you can use it in your very free time or on breaks so they aren't strick. But I hardly ever get to check into from work.
CantWait replied: I visit from work, but usual it's after 4:00 when everyone else has gone home. That's also the time I stop doing my phone calls out to people. It's not monitored, so I don't worry about it, and the policy isn't so strict that Parenting Club would be a restricted site.
redchief replied: I'm self employed at one job, so the only person who's going to yell at me there is me. On the other job, I keep my net usage on day shift to a minimum and usually work related. On night shift the city is a little more lenient, figuring as long as we're not doing anything against city harrassment policies they don't care. Night shifts can drag on forever and they know that.
fashionmumofboys replied: I work for a lawyer and he is a sole practicioner. It's just me and another secretary, and we do not have an IT department. So I will come on at lunch or on breaks.
My boss doesn't monitor us, as we do get our work done.
coasterqueen replied: I'm the business manager here at work and run all the computers so I create the internet policy.
Kaitlin'smom replied: we do have some restrictions, how much they monitor I and sure more than I woudl lke to know but its not blocked so I come on when I can.
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: I work at a small buisness and there are only 2 computers here, mine and my bosses. We are slow in the winter months, but if I have work I do it. He doesn't check my history.
MommyToAshley replied: I work from home, but it is hard to stay disciplined and work instead of coming on here.
TANNER'S MOM replied: When I am doing my billing there is a time lapse between the computer thinking and downloading I read then. Then if I am on hold I read..Then if I have a break I read.
It may seem I am on here alot..but I really keep it minimized and read when I can get a break to read!
We have a very easy policy..as long as our work is done!

Ditto! As long as my work is done!
JP&KJMOM replied: I work at a remote office out of our corporate office and we have networked DSL but only for our office. We have 10 employees here and I am the one that keep things running. I am like Mel though and keep it minimized while I am working and read when I can. We are pretty laid back place too.
CAMSMOM1 replied: At my job, I'm the supervisor! So I can get away with it. But really, I don't have the time for it, taking care of all the kids. But I have a 30 min. time frame before the kids get out of school, and I can take a quick glance on the boards. I don't really have time to reply. I really don't get on the computer much at work anyways. I'm sure if I had more time at work, I'd be on the boards more.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Scotty asked me one day how all you ladies get on here from work. He said "At my job they'd be fired." He's in a different kind of work, though. When I worked we didn't even HAVE the internet. It still would have been impossible for me to get on then, too.
Even though I am a SAHM I could limit my time on the computer and I'm doing much better...only getting on here during nap time, etc.
My2Beauties replied: Whatever websites we can't get to, they tell us access denied or restricted site and we can't even see anything, luckily this isn't one of them. They monitor a lot of our emails more lately, things that we may forward on that have raunchy subject headings or something, but I work for a Fortune 500 corporation with over 17,000 employees, they can't possibly monitor us that close. Also certain departments are more laid back, ours is. So when I have free time I come out here and no one has ever said anything to me.
My3LilMonkeys replied: That's what would happen to me too.
I guess my company's just really strict.
luvmykids replied: I'm trying to restrict myself to nap/TV time but it never seems to stop there ...
blue72 replied: I never visit the site from work. I could probably get away with it but they do have policies against it. Immediate termination if found using the internet inappropriately.
