Question for breastfeeding moms

Mom2Boyz wrote: When did your periods return (regurlarly)after giving birth? I had my first af after Conner was born 5 weeks later on Jan. 1st, the second came right on time around the first of Feb, but I've yet to have one since. I had a tiny tiny tiny bit of spotting (not even enough for a pad) about 3 weeks ago, but nothing since then. I'm on the mini pill, but there's been a few times I've taken it late. Is it possible that I could be pg again already, or does it just take a while for your cycle to get back to normal?

MommyToAshley replied: Mine returned when Ashley was around 4 months old, and has stayed consistent ever since. But, everyone is different. I think it is just your cycle isn't regular yet, but it is possible to get PG while you are BF. If you think you might be PG, I would test. Let us know how it goes. grouphug.gif

paradisemommy replied: i'm on the mini pill and my af came back within a couple months of having taven. my cycle was SUPER irregular (when pre pg i was VERY regular)..it took probably close to a year to get it back to normal for me but i bled every month and am still breastfeeding like no tomorrow..so i think it just depends on the person. ita with dee dee though..you can get pregnant while on the pill - i would think especially with the mini pill because it has the lowest amount of hormones in it...you could be pg. good luck and let us know!

MomToJade&Jordan replied: Mine returned when Jade was bout 5 months old. It was pretty regular after that. After Jade stopped nursing it went all funky again. I thought I was pg the first time, but it was just another hormonal change. I agree with the above posts. It is possible to become pg while on the pill.

jem0622 replied: My periods never returned until I had totally weaned from nursing. You can have irregular cycles while nursing.

juliajaj replied: My cycle didn't return until Olivia weaned at 1 year old. My doctor stressed that it is possible to get pregnant while breastfeeding, so that's why he put me on the mini-pill. He also stressed that mini-pill must be taken at the same time everyday for it to be effective. I noticed with other birth control pills that if I missed a day, sometimes I would lightly spot, so it might be the same way with the mini-pill.

kit_kats_mom replied: Mine did not return at all until K was about 14 mos old. I was/am not on BC though. They are still really irregular but they weren't regular before I got preg either.

Jamison'smama replied: Mine came back when Jamison was 12 months--I had one, skipped a month, had another then missed 2 months had one last month and now I think I am skipping this month sad.gif We would like to TTC but things are not cooperating. Jama still nurses twice a day.

jcc64 replied: Mine came back when Corey started nursing less frequently (I don't know- 8 months or so). I believe there is a direct relationship between the length of time between nursing sessions, and AF. I get it every month, but it's not quite as regular as it was before, probably b/c of the nursing. I'm sure taking the mini-pill has something to do with it in your case. I would call your dr. and ask.

coasterqueen replied: I first saw AF a week before Kylie turned 10 months old. AF was not regular for at least 4 months or a bit more. I only took the mini pill for about 2 months so I have no real info on it. You might just test to be sure wink.gif

momma2jenna replied: I had one when Jenna was 11 1/2 months old. That was this past March, I haven't had it since. I was very regular before I had Jenna, and I'm not on any bc.

Mom2Boyz replied: Thanks gals!! smile.gif It makes me feel a little better knowing that it's normal for af to be wacky when breastfeeding. Although I'm still going to test tomorrow just to make sure. wink.gif I wouldn't be upset AT ALL if I am pg, but I think my fiance would have a different opinion about it. We are planning on ttc #2, but not until after our trip to Vegas in July.
