Question about tipping.
MoonMama wrote: I was just talking to my SIL (my brothers wife) and she was saying she ordered dinner for them tonight for delivery. And somehow we got to talking about tipping the driver and how much and such. She then asked me if I tip driver if the place has a delivery charge? I told her yes I always do regardless, why wouldn't I? I didn't think that had anything to do with them (the person delivering) She then said "oh my gosh Ally I feel horrible, I never do because when I worked delivery although many years ago. The delivery charge was our tip". So now I am sitting here wondering who is right? Do you still tip either way?
Calimama replied: I tip them too! I thought the delivery charge went to the business, not the deliverer!
My3LilMonkeys replied: Yes, but we tip less when there's a delivery charge because it does go to the driver at most places.
Several of our local takeouts put right on their menu "Delivery charge paid to driver - no tip necessary" but I think $1.50 to drive 40 minutes round trip is a pretty lousy tip.
MoonMama replied: That's what I always thought too, another way to get a few more dollars out of us. KWIM? But not according to SIL.
mckayleesmom replied: Here another question...SONICS....ok..Usually I go through the drive through, but our Sonics here doesn't have one...You have to pull into the car port thing...Do I tip the person that brings my food out?
Calimama replied: I never do at Sonic. Are you supposed to?
MoonMama replied:
mckayleesmom replied: Thats my question....Im not sure...I never have though, but like I said...I usually go through the drive thru.
luvmykids replied: I always tip at Sonic And everywhere else, even if I go in to pick up a take out order I tip a dollar. The only place that delivers to us is pizza, and they don't have a charge, but if they did I still would b/c I'd hate to assume the driver was getting it and didn't.
grandma replied: God I miss Sonics! Yes, the 'carhop' gets tipped......
mckayleesmom replied: Well...now I feel like a butt....
grandma replied: I'm sorry, didn't mean to make you feel bad. Maybe it's just me, but I always tip whoever brings me FOOD...lol We have a place like A&W, Sonics here called Eddie's and the girls serve you on roller skates (only in the spring/summer of course).
Calimama replied: Well I rarely go to Sonic anyway since it's so far. I'll remember that for next time though!!
MoonMama replied: You said it Brianne! I'll remember next time. The only thing I ever go there for is a raspberry or cherry limeaid as a treat and that's rare.
grandma replied: Hey girls, really I'm no miss manners....lol I'm sure I usually overtip everyone from my shampoo tech, waitresses, nail tech...I use to waitress.
MoonMama replied: Eh, no worries.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I worked for an Italian restaurant in college, where I took the delivery orders over the phone and I had to tell the customer that there was a $3 deliv charge. People hated it. But to answer the question, the $3 went TO the delivery guy, he often split it with me. And he often got tipped on top of that. I guess it depends on the business. Anyhow, I always tip on top of the delivery charge just in case it goes to the business. I mean, what's another couple dollars? Delivery doesn't make much. And I've never been to a Sonic, so I wouldn't know.
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: Yes - we tip even when there's a delivery charge.
MoonMama replied: That's kind of my thoughts too. And I think it must be a hard job....dealing with rude customers, weather, bad drivers etc.
