Question about "big" level 2 ultrsound

Danalana wrote: Tomorrow is the level 2 ultrasound with my OB. I don't think I got any kind of instructions, so I have a question. Is this the one where I am supposed to drink enough water to drown a horse, and feel like I will pee on myself before it's over? Just wondering! I suppose I could always call them, but I figured I would ask while I'm thinking about it.

moped replied: I don't know what level 2 means, but if it is the 18 weeks then yes you need water - about 4-6 glasses is what they told me

coasterqueen replied: I don't ever remember having to drink lots of water with pregnancy sonograms. huh.gif I did when I had sonograms for other female problems. I guess I completely forgot that part.

Danalana replied:
Yep, it's that one!

mummy2girls replied: well yes. but you have to do that with the other u/s you have been getting.. didnt you?

holley79 replied:
I had to with all u/s whether it was with baby or female problems. You didn't have to with baby u/s?

Danalana replied: No....the technician told me it was only necessary for the purpose of measurements, as it makes the cervix and other parts of the pelvic floor more clear. We could see baby just fine, and I didn't have to go at all. Well, I say "at all", but you know how you feel like you can go anytime during pregnancy emlaugh.gif

EDIT: I was responding to the post prior to the last one!

coasterqueen replied:
Not that I remember. They never told me to drink extra water or anything of that sort. Maybe I'm forgetting something. unsure.gif

lovemy2 replied: I never had to drink any water either - huh.gif

holley79 replied:
WOW I thought I was goign to bust a gut everytime I went to get an u/s. I was just talking to one of the girls here at work and she said she didn't have to drink water except when she went to her sex finding u/s. dunno.gif Guess it just depends on the tech who is doing your u/s.

luvmykids replied: I remember having to drink water, once they even had me chug a glass in the middle of the u/s....I didn't ask why though, still don't know laugh.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Sometimes I had to drink water, sometimes I didn't. I have an unusually large bladder I guess, because several times I had to go empty myself a little... then a little more... a little more... rolleyes.gif

holley79 replied:
Was it really cold water to try and get baby action? This is what I had to do with Annika when I was admitted for pre- term labor. I was like huh.gif but it was a friend of mine doing the u/s so I asked. emlaugh.gif

coasterqueen replied: Wow, I've never heard of making a pregnant woman drink so they could get a sono. I thought for some reason when you are pregnant everything is "positioned" just right so it wasn't an issue.

I hate thinking about all the water I had to drink for sonos when I had ovarian cysts as a teenager. I swear I thought I was full and they'd make me drink more. I was in tears every time. rolleyes.gif

holley79 replied:
I had OCs also when I was 15 and you think you are going to :pike: from so much water and they make you drink more. It was horrible!

coasterqueen replied:
Yes. That is why I was so happy I didn't have to do so for pg sonos. I remember the first time going in there and asking if I had to drink water - I thought I was going to cry when they told me I didn't have to. blush.gif

My2Beauties replied: I had to with Hanna, I drank so much that I had to pee so bad I thought I was going to burst, I got in the dr's office and they wouldn't let me use the restroom b/c they said it could affect the outcome of my results, I had to go so bad I started crying, so I left the office and went downstairs to another office in the building and asked to use their restroom. I was PO'd needless to say growl.gif Anyways, I didn't have to with Aubrey, the new docs I went to said that their technology was newer and it wasn't needed.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: In older sono machines(I have heard that the new ones are much better) you have to drink water because your bladder sits in front of your uterus so they can get a clearer picture with your bladder full. It can cause shadows and lines on the sonogram if it is only half 'inflated' so to speak. I know I would try to lay there and enjoy the sono and not think about how bad it hurt because I had to pee so bad! laugh.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I had to drink the loads of water for my US with Wil, but not with Wesley. I guess all doctors are different. I don't think it really matters all that much. It just may make it easier to see tha baby.

gr33n3y3z replied:
I had to with every U.S. I ever had with all my my kids to the point where your back teeth are floating

coasterqueen replied:
I feel lucky then. tongue.gif The more I've been sitting her thinking about it I know I never did because the darn nurse annoyed me every visit trying to get a urine sample out of me the minute I walk in the door - every visit. wacko.gif I had a ton of u/s with Megan too and never had to do the full bladder thing.

Our Lil' Family replied: I had to have a full bladder with my 20 week u/s but not my 38 week one....not sure what the difference was, maybe because I was full term?

HuskerMom replied: It must depend on the dr bc everytime I've had an u/s they had me use the bathroom right before. Maybe just ask if they want you full or empty? laugh.gif

boyohboyohboy replied: i also had to drink lots of water before all three of my babies ultrasounds...
it was to the point that if i sneezed it would have been a flood.
and her pushing the wand on my stomach was torture...
i would drink it, and then if you dont need to , you can go right before she gets started..

Danalana replied: I've read it makes it easier to measure the cervix and other stuff...*shrug*

MoonMama replied: I had to drink tons of water with Brae. wacko.gif

ZandersMama replied: It's to fill your badder, its right under the uterus and it pushs everything up when its full.

MommyToAshley replied: I didn't have to drink water with any of my U/S's.

Just curious, did they say why you are having a level II U/S done?

stella6979 replied: I have no idea what a level 2 ultrasound even is. LOL! Where I'm at, they only give you one u/s unless there are complications.
I must have missed it when you posted the sex of the baby, but Congratulations! I like the name you've chosen too. smile.gif

Jamison'smama replied: Nope, no water for me either.
