Question about Windows XP - freaky

ilovemybaby wrote: I'm sitting here and all of a sudden I hear this "HELLO?!" coming from the laptop. It does it twice. Is this a "supposedly" cool Windows XP feature? unsure.gif
It is freaky.
When the laptop loads up it says Good Morning and when you shut it down it says Goodbye.
So I guess it is Windows XP or the laptop itself?

Is there a way to stop it from doing it?

Italianhuney replied: Hmm is there any other programs recently installed? Weird... lol

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Mine doesn't do that, but I imagine you can go into program setup and change that. Sorry I don't know the exact place to change it off hand, but I would play around with it. Good luck!

Kaitlin'smom replied: are you on any webpage? I know I have some with banners offering free smilyes and one of them talks. It freeked me out the first time cause I had NO clue where it was comming from.

zdk753 replied: I have XP & when I first got my comp it would also tell me "good morning" (or afternoon depending on time of day) when I logged on & tell me "good night" when I shut it off. I was able to get it to stop, but I will have to see if I can find what I did to make it stop. Can't remember.

ilovemybaby replied:
Actually I was wondering if it could be that. We are forever getting those smileys banner ads. Sometimes we get banner ads and we close them and the same one will just keep popping up. Like the other day we had to close one down (screensavers one) about ten times before it gave up. mad.gif
We have anti virus software and adware/spyware. I know there must be a way to stop banner ads from popping up.

I think it has done it on the computer too and we don't have Windows XP on that one... so it is probably more then likely to be those stupid ads.

Sorry, I just thought it was a little funny but it would be freaky. As long as it doesn't address you by your name. tongue.gif

Good luck....never had ours do that and we have XP Professional...

gr33n3y3z replied: I hate XP I liked the older versions much better smile.gif

ilovemybaby replied: I have come to the conclusion that it isn't XP. It's definitely got to be those smiley banner ads.

Our computer doesn't seem to like Windows Me or 2000 so we have to upgrade to XP.

My3LilMonkeys replied:
We had our internet through MSN when we had dial up and every time we came on line it would say "Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening Robert" (DH's name that the account was listed under) The first time it really freaked me out!

Brias3 replied: Go into your control panel and click on the add/delete programs choice. Sift through those and see if there is anything that doesn't look familiar. I did this recently as we had these weird pop ups occuring that didn't go away once we did the virus scan/delete process. Not only did they stop appearing, my internet was faster too. Could be something like that.

ilovemybaby replied: Thanks Bria I'll check that.
I think this banner ad is on Parenting Club though. You know right up the top of the screen where it has the baby and the Parenting Club logo. On the right hand side right now it has a "The Fart Button" ad. LOL Well sometimes it is a smiley banner ad and it is whenever that comes up that I get the "hello".

LOL I'm glad it doesn't call me by name!

CantWait replied:
I bet that's what it is, I always get those, scares the poop out of me rolling_smile.gif
