Question:For Those That Camp - What do you take along with you?
3xsthefun wrote: We are going camping this weekend, we plan on leaving Saturday and staying until Monday or Tuesday. We will have a little store near us if we need ice or whatever. I'm asking mainly about what kinds of foods do you take? We'll probably have maybe 2 or 3 coolers with ice in them with us. We don't go camping that often maybe once or twice a year. But last time we had my parents with us and we did have plenty food like steaks, hamburgers, and hotdogs. I doubt we get any steaks.
So far on the list we have:
Hamburgers Hotdogs Bacon Eggs Can Veggies Platic Cups of Fruit Cereal Milk Water Potatoes Fish Peanut Butter Bread
What else could we bring that we can keep in a cooler?
We are very much looking forward to this trip, and we would like to be little more prepared this year. We will be staying in tents. I will be sure to get pictures while we are at the lake. It is a beautiful place where we will be camping. I know the kids will enjoy it little more this year.
luvbug00 replied: Oh on camping trips I'm all about the pankakes in the morning..if you ahve a mini stove that is! and lots of syrp and butter!!! Oh and Smores!!! mashmellow and grahm crackers and chcolate!! to die for!! Now I want to go camping!!
coasterqueen replied: Here's our tried and true menu for every camping trip:
Boyscout hamburgers (hamburger, onions, carrots, potatoes, butter, spices all in tin foil)
Hotdogs
Lunch meat sandwiches, chips, snacks
Eggs/Bacon
Donuts/breakfast pastries
Sometimes we buy chicken on the way to camping, like at Hardees and then put it in the cooler and have cold chicken for lunch the next day.
mammag replied: Pretty much what you bring but sometimes we'll also bring...
Corned Beef Hash & a box of rice Chips Hot Chocolate in case it's chilly in the morning Trail Mix Jerkey Candies - I always get a sweet tooth if I know it's not available..
Sounds like fun. I wouldn't mind going camping again but I got so burned out of it the last time.......but then I was very pg at the time.
Look forward to seeing pictures!
Have Fun!!!!
3xsthefun replied: Ok, thankyou all!
I think we will skip the pancakes, none of us really eat them. We will be bringing a grill and pots and pans.
We also plan on bringing some lunchmeat and some cheese, and some snacks.
I think I might make a box of the banquet chicken and bring with us. That might be good to have Saturday for dinner or Sunday for lunch.
stanleygirl replied: I always bring the toaster (if you have power) and make toast, waffles and pop tarts for breakfast. Have fun!
coasterqueen replied: Oh you can't take a toaster when you camp. You have to rough it!
stanleygirl replied:
No way! I take the electric kiettle too if I can
lisar replied: they make a toaster that hooks up to the grill now. I know they sell them at wal-mart thats where we got ours. They work pretty good to...

JAYMESMOM replied: Camping for me includes a micro and an electric griddle. So i bring almost anything to cook. Your menu sounds about the basics of what to bring. I will warn you if you cook the bacon on the grill you may get a grease fire so pack some baking soda. I always light the grill and cover the rack with aluminum foil. Poke a few holes and let it warm up really good before putting the bacon on. Flip often to avoid burning one side.
3xsthefun replied: Thanks for everyone's suggestions. But I don't think we will bring a toaster. We are just basically bringing simple stuff. I'm pretty sure there might be eletrical outlets there but we won't be using any hardly. Good thing they do have running water shower & toilets. So it won't be to bad.
kellibellisdillybear replied: Oooooh, I love to camp, but DH said not this year, the baby is too young. I say the sooner he learns what nature's about, the better.
Anyway, a good option to burgers is tri-tip sandwiches, slice it raw at home, and throw it in marinade in a bag-i like teryaki, and serve it with some sticky rice!
For breakfast, eggs, green peppers, onions, potatos and cheese makes a great one pan scramble. I use tortillas unlike the toaster cheaters!
And yes, I can say from experience, don't put the bacon on the grill. I even used foil on mine and there was so much grease.....yikes. But, you could get the ready bacon from Oscar Myer, and just heat it up quick
Have fun, tell us all about it
Gammy2 replied: We always take potatoes - just dice them up in cubes put lots of butter, salt, pepper and garlic and we seal in aluminum foil and cook over the fire - yummy. BTW where are you going camping at. If i am correct you live in WV. I will be at Lake Sherwood this weekend camping with my granddaughter Cadance.
3xsthefun replied: Ok, thanks for the tips we cooked bacon last year I think on a pan on the grill on the side burner. We will have to try some of the things every suggested.
Gammy2- we will be at Sherwood Lake also That is where we went last year and loved it there. It is really beautiful! Maybe we will bump into each other! I hope we can get into the number 1 camp site or maybe 2.

TANNER'S MOM replied: a shower in a BAG....
12.00 bucks at Wal mart..
I know alot of times you go to the shower house.. but I like this for the kiddo's when they need rinsed off.. or me too.
Please I can hang the bag and the water is usually warmer than the shower house!
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Camping Chicken (though I make it at home too )
Chicken breasts cut into pieces Potatos cut into pieces and vegitarian baked beans (don't know why it has to be vegitarian but it does)
wrap it up in foil and throw it over the fire for about an hour.
It is super easy and super yummy, definately a favorite in my house
3xsthefun replied: Thanks so much for all the help & suggestions.
