How old was you baby when you took her off the bottle? have you done it yet? if not when do you plan to? have you had difficulty getting her off it?
Just a general question because i was just wondering
I suppose you just give them the bo bo untill they are ready to come of it?
A&A'smommy replied: 12 months is when they said you should get them off of it completly
gr33n3y3z replied: one was a year old the second was 9 months
and the other 2 were off the breast at 8 months Nope I had no problem with the 2 at 8 months went from breast to cup right away.
The other 2 didnt nurse long only about 4 months so they went to the bottle and it was harder to get rid of the bottles but after introducing the cup for 3 months to them I threw the bottles out at a year old.
ammommy replied: Both kids were off by a year. Night time bottles only after 11 months.
bonnie replied: Thank you all
I really wasnt sure. I didnt think that it was that young. Do you still give them baby milk in there cup or just put them onto normal milk?
My baby is 10 months, should i be trying to give her less baby milk? My neigbours daughter is coming on 4 yrs and she still gets a bottle at night, her mother has no problem with this. She says that the longer you keep them on the bottle the better. She says that it has all the essentual things in it to keep your baby healthy. Is she wrong?
So i should be getting her of the baby milk quite soon then?
My2Beauties replied: Actually a 4 yr old does not need a bottle for any reason whasoever besides comfort, that mother if you ask my honest opinion, is creating a seriously bad habit that can affect her childs teeth down the line. Pediatricians recommend to stop bottle feeding after 1 year because of the long term effects bottle nipples can have on a growing child teeth and gums!!! So the start introducing the sippy to your child now! 10 months is when I introduced Hanna, but she wasn't completely weaned until like 13 months I believe! The sooner the better really! Also they need breast milk or formula up to 1 year of age and then y ou can introduce them to cows milk, at 1 year of age they need at least 3 8 oz glasses of cows milk a day, Vitamin D milk that is, not 2% or skim neither! This is just what my ped told me!
ammommy replied: I wouldn't get her off of the milk yet, just the bottle part. Start introducing a sippy cup with the milk in it to get her used to drinking out of something other than a bottle. A soft spouted cup made the transition easier for both of my kids and there is usually a valve in it to help keeps away spills.
Most peds recommend waiting until a year to switch to whole milk, although my ped OK'd it at 9 months with my daughter since she was no longer nursing. I'd ask for your doctor's recommendation before making the switch.
aspenblue1 replied: Isabella was 12 months when she weaned.
ian'smommy replied: I agree... Ian was almost a year when we switched him to a sippy cup... He remained on formula until his birthday however. He was on formula because I couldn't nurse past 4 months.... Once the first year comes around, then they should be on vitamin D milk... They can be switched to 2% milk by the time they turn 2....
JAYMESMOM replied: Jayme was off a bottle by a year. But we continued to put nummies in her cup up until a year. She still nurses at night and when I am home on the weekends but other than that uses a sippy.
bonnie replied: Thank you all for your replys i can imajine that my health visiter will tell me all this at my daughters next cheak up. She is on her sippy cup with her juice and water but i didnt realise that i could be puting her milk in it
I also thought that what my neighbour was doing was wrong, esspecially that her daughter also still has a dummy.
Thanks all for the info, this board is great for support and advise
Isabelita replied: We started whole milk at 1 year old.
My DD was off her bottle at 12 months.
amymom replied: I started whole milk with my son at a year old. He gave up his bottle around 18 mos. (I know, I know) it was late but I was a lazy mom. My daughter didn't have a bottle after she was 11 mos old.
