Ques about weaning? - At a year...
shelrae00 wrote: I was just curious how many of you were planning on weaning at a year or just letting the baby self wean whenever? I had always planned to wean at a year but the closer it gets the more I think I will just let her keep nursing. Everyone thinks you should stop at a year. Like you are a sicko if you nurse them any longer. People are so dumb about some things!
Anyway, I was wondering what you all were planning to do?
Thanks girls!

Kaitlin'smom replied: I had though about that also weaning at a year but now at 6 months I am re-thinking I will probably just let her nurse as long as she wants. I love that time with her even when I am tired
supermom replied: TeeHee - well, we're at 3 yo and no signs of giving it up any time soon. I had *always* said that I would let my kids self wean, and he's sure doing just that - we only nurse 3X a day - once first thing in the AM, once at nap time and once at night before bed.......
With the new one on the way, we'll just play it by ear and see how long we go....
Actually, now the AAP and WHO actually recommends a *minimum* of a year and as long after that as is mutually desired by child and mother - bout time!!
Kaitlin'smom replied:
ya!
glad to know that!
amynicole21 replied: I'll let Sophia nurse as long as she wants to. I've gotten a lot of comments like "you aren't going to be nursing her when she's two, are you?" If she's happy to nurse that long, then so am I!
MommyToAshley replied: I had originally planned to wean at a year too... but Ashley loves to nurse so I am not sure how long we will go now. As someone once said, "I guess we will go with the flow" hehe
supermom replied: Yeah, and to poohpooh on anyone who says anything to any of you about going longer than that!!!!
Tell them
MamaMartie replied: I don't have any plans right now either way. Honestly, I am still getting over the surprise that I am Bfing. It never worked out before. I am so excited that I don't want to think about stoping lol
Julie (jem0622) replied: Nathan automatically weaned at a year (we had him sleep through the night). He also ditched the paci. I was sad. I was hoping to night nurse. We'll see what Gabe wants. That's how I plan to handle it.

kit_kats_mom replied: Although I'm ready to get my boobs back, I also treasure the times that we nurse. She loves her bobbies and is showing no signs of giving them up anytime soon. I plan to let her self wean, although, I probably won't share that info with anyone else. I just am not up to defending my decisions. DH is very supportive and ok with it too, as long as we keep it "in the family".
MomToMany replied: I thought about weaning at a year, but we're past that point now ! I've never succeeded at this before, so I'm just happy to have had the chance to nurse one of my kids! Hannah's 14 months old now, and I'm just going to let her wean whenever she's ready !
Now when she wants to nurse, she'll go pat the chair we usually sit in ! And she will try pulling my shirt up whenever I hold her ! It means so much to her, I'm not going to force her to stop when she's not ready.
BTW, DH said, "She's not going to be doing that when she's 2, is she?" I said it's up to her ! Nobody has even asked me anything about it; I think they know better ! I'd sure give them a piece of my mind!
victoire2002 replied: I am pretty ready to wean.... Aidan will be 12 months in August, and we have cut down our bf sessions to 4X a day, and we will eliminate a feeding 1x per week during the month of July until we have no feedings left. I have cherished the time and the closeness together, but I am ready, ready, ready and more ready to stop bfing. He seems to be ready, too. He *never* asks for the boob, unless he is really upset, or early in the a.m. During the day, he seems more content to play and to explore rather than bf.
That's the plan.... I will let you know how it goes!
