Q for the Dads - and Moms
moped wrote: So now that Jack is peeing on the potty, he stands up, always has, he is tall enough to not need a stool or anything. But I am trying to teach him to pee and wipe his penis and then wipe the seat where he dripped.........suddenly, he says "Dad, says I can just shake it off"..................OMG NO! SO is this normal, is there no wiping involved??????
mummy2girls replied: im sorry but that is funny
moped replied: Sure it is because you have a DAUGHTER!!!!!
TANNER'S MOM replied: No wiping for boys. They shake.
I hate it too..but when they do wipe..toilet papper sticks to the end of it for some reason.
moped replied: Oh fabulous!
Calimama replied: It's unavoidable.. he's going to shake.
MoonMama replied: Yep...I just asked DH about it too and he laughed and asked me what in the world we talk about on here.
gr33n3y3z replied: LOL I told the boys to wipe it off but did they prolly not
they didnt clean up after themselves so I made them sit
moped replied: You guys are killing me here!
I can just hear Tom saying "just shake it off buddy"......ahhhhhhhh
Calimama replied:
gr33n3y3z replied: tell your DH to join us
TANNER'S MOM replied: Well you at least you haven't had to say...Don't have to shake it that much..yet..
Oh and you will get the pee spot on the undies..it's gonna happen. Yellow undies in the front.
moped replied: OMG this is getting worse than I imagined!
Any other nasty things you guys need to forewarn me about?
Calimama replied: And all over the floor around the toilet. I have a nephew.. it wasn't pretty.
moped replied: Ok, maybe I do want a girl - with OCD!!!!!
alice&arik replied: Whenever Arik wakes up he usually has to go pretty bad. So he has a little stiffy and a few times he has been standing there peeing and coughs and it shoots up all over the toilet and wall! Or he will have to hold it down so it stays in the toilet. When he pees outside, he likes to see how far and high he can pee.
He has never wiped and usually dribbles quite a bit.
moped replied: Oh good lord help me!!!!!!!!
Insanemomof3 replied: I guess I am lucky...Tristan actually sits to pee. LOL We taught him that way because he was scared of the potty to stand in front of it for some reason. And he doesn't make a mess because he "pushes it down" LOL SOrry, Tmi but it is funny.
TANNER'S MOM replied: Tanner is 9 and this still happens.
He still has who can pee the furtherest contest with Justin and DH..and Tanner always wins.
Dh says he has an arch to his some how!!
Calimama replied: At least you don't have to worry about PMS in a few years with him. I'll take the pee on the floor over that ANY day.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: One of my friend's little boys was here right after they potty trained. I asked him if he needed help and he said 'Nope I can shake it off but only 3 shakes cuz if it is 4 then I am just playing with it' OMG! When I could stand up and breath again I asked him who told him that and he looked at me like and said Daddy....Oh the bonding that must take place in that conversation!
luvmykids replied: Teach him now to point it DOWN Put some cheerios in the toilet and tell him to aim for the target
No wiping here either. I guess shaking is better than wringing it out
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Yeah, I'm teaching Wil to sit. Dad sits...OMG he would be so embarassed that I told you that. But at home, he sits. In public, he stands. Fine with me...Less to clean! He says his mom taught him to sit so that he wouldn't stain the toilet. I love my MIL!
Wil takes a piece of toilet paper and throws it in the toilet. No wiping, but he likes to do what I do I guess. We are PT right now too...I don't think I really mentioned that, but I saw that you were doing it with Jack and I jumped on the boat. So far so good - we're on day 3.
Calimama replied: ROFL!
moped replied:
gr33n3y3z replied: with a girl you get PMS (trust me I know even worse) take the boys any day with their nasty dripping members
moped replied: Jack has always stood - ummmmmmm
Oh well, this is my life right!
WIl is doing good with pooping??
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Oh I think it is GREAT that Jack stands! No need to teach him later. I'm just not ready for the mess or teaching Wil to hold his thing. And like I said, he's gotta do it how Daddy does it!
No poop on the potty yet. He says he needs to go, but nothing comes out. I figure just telling me is at least a step in the right direction. I have gone straight to underwear. I finally just said this is it, no diapers and he hasn't even asked for them. He still wears diapers at night at naptime though. He gets a little gift (that I have up on the counter in the bathroom) on Friday if we make it that far.
moped replied: Same thing here - one poop in his pants, but he was at MIL that day - BLAH
So, only underwear for us too - except nap and bedtime which he wakes up wet in the morning
Keep me posted on this stuff
CantWait replied: OMG I think I'm peeing my pants, that's hilarious!!!!!!!!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Zach sits. Dad pees in the shower...and otherwise he's #2, so the kids have only really ever seen him sit on the can.
Insanemomof3 replied: LOL my man is the same way. I love it. lol
My3LilMonkeys replied: I just have to ask....every time he has to pee he does it in the shower? Or he only pees while he's showering?
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Ethan started out sitting and now he stands most of the time. I didn't have to teach him to hold it or point it down...it's like he just knew what to do. And E wants to wipe. I'm the one saying "Just shake it" But only shake it THREE times....we don't want Abbie accusing us of anything.
luvmykids replied: LMBO
Kentuckychick replied: Aww... it's great that he's doing so well!!
Of course I have no kids of my own, but I've been through and am currently going through potty training with three of my charges (two of those boys, one not quite getting it yet). The 9 year old that I was a nanny for and now babysit was at the end of the potty training process all those years ago and I was babysitting him. I remember vividly him standing there, everything perfectly lined up and aimed and he peed and it definitely did not go in the toilet. Nope, it went on the wall and his shirt and some on the lovely fake plant beside the potty, but not a drop went in the proper place. Luckily he didn't go too much, and I jumped out of the way in time, got him and the place cleaned up and had him sit down for the rest of the time I was there.
I didn't mention anything to the mother because I honestly thought maybe I was just nuts, it was the first time I'd really dealt with a boy that little and the potty. Well the next time I was over to sit she happened to mention right before I left "Hey, by the way, when he goes to the potty you have to aim it downward for him or it will go everywhere!" Turned out he had hypospadia and had to have surgery a few months later.
I have to tell ya, I don't mind the dribbles that get left behind anymore I figure at least the houseplants are fairly safe!
lovemy2 replied: Oh Jen - I can only imagine how this whole scenario has gone through your mind
I think the cheerio thing is a good idea - definately teaches them to point it down - I have a nephew who is 5 and I used to keep those lysol wipes on the toilet cause inevitably I would be cleaning the walls, toilet and floor after he left - mostly cause he didn't have the attention span when he started potty training to pay attention to what he was doing the WHOLE time he was doing it - he shakes too but not with his hand - he just does some hip action
moped replied: Goodness this is all so terrible! LOL
He actually hits the toilet and does pretty good with that but after he is done it dribbles on the seat - Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Knowing him he would eat the darn cheerio after!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: That's what I worried about w/Ethan. As much as he loves food, I wouldn't put it past him to fish them out of the toilet.
moped replied: I am happy to report that there were no accidents today!!!!!
WOOHOO
Still no poop though!
Maddie&EthansMom replied:
He's doing REALLY well!! WTG Jack!!!
Ethan has been pee trained for most of the summer. Just last week he started pooping in the potty. I thought he never would, but he did it on his own, without my cajoling him. Jack will go poop eventually, I hope sooner rather than later.
TANNER'S MOM replied: Teaching them to hold it isn't really an issue. Every boy I know ..knows how to hold it. But my boys never sat. They do mess every now and then..but not bad enough.
In public you want them to stand. I stand in a public bathroom..so I dang sure want my kids too.
punkeemunkee'smom replied:
No I didn't make those rules....
A&A'smommy replied: OMG this thread is hilarious!!!!
I'm really not sure that I want a boy now
Boo&BugsMom replied: Yep, no wiping. Just shake off the drips. I DID teach Tanner to wipe up any dribbles though, which he does all the time, thank God. Now, if only I could get hubby to do that.
Side note...Tanner does wipe his "wee wee" quite often though, but that is because he prefers it. Nobody taught him to do it. I think he saw the daycare girls do it when I was potty training them all and he automatically thought he had to as well. NOW, we are trying to get him to stop doing it because when he goes to school, there will be no paper at the urinals. I also don't want the other boys to pick on him about it. He also started out sitting, but that was because I found it easier to train him that way because his aim was horrible, and being he was only 2.5 he was short. I know a lot of boys who start standing from the start. When he has to do both )#1 and #2), he sits and holds "it" down to pee. When it's only #1, he stands now.
DillsMommy replied: DH taught Dylan to smack his butt to get the last little bit out.
stella6979 replied: Yep! Shaking is the only way to go.
lisar replied: OMG!!!! I am dying of laughter over here. I am glad I have girls.
TheOaf66 replied: so sad that you know that Mel
TANNER'S MOM replied: Well are you agreeing with my theory..?
I have potty trained to almost grown boys..lol
Somedays after going in their bathroom I think I need to start over they aren't trained very well.
TheOaf66 replied:
boyohboyohboy replied: i totally agree, that boys do not wipe, however caleb has prefered to sit and only stands in public....but having a house of three boys (including daddy) they tend to dribble on the floor in front of the toilet... their are future wives out there that are going to thank you moms for teaching these boys to wipe up their own messes though! i have learned that rugs are not good for bathroom where a boy lives...
TheOaf66 replied: Somedays after going in their bathroom I think I need to start over they aren't trained very well.
won't help
moped replied: Ok, now I am starting wonder if there is an invention here - something that can keep the pee from hitting the floor around the toilet, or something that would help a mother with a house full of boys????
ummmmmm
TheOaf66 replied: sure, something that looks like rain gutters surrounding the bowl
or maybe you should just install the "trough" in your bathroom
stella6979 replied: That's a great idea! If I had the money to design and build my own house, I'd definately have a "trough". Oh what the heck, I just have a seperate bathroom for the boys all together....with "troughs".
holley79 replied: My SIL taught my nephew to wipe every single time he went to the potty. Other people I know don't do this.
Cece00 replied: All the boys in this house shake too. We taught them to do it, I know DH wouldnt teach them to wipe b/c he doesnt do it and I know my ex (father of my older 2) doesnt either....so they shake.
Luckily my boys dont pee anywhere but the toilet too often...I think the one time I remember it getting on the floor I made the offender wipe it up. And DH *knows* if he misses the toilet he better wipe that crap up...
I taught my boys to pee sitting down but now that they go to school I make them stand...I dont want them catching any crap @ school for sitting down.
tammyhopkins replied: I started doing the same wiping and them DH says. NO NO boys shake not wipe. So that is what we do.
moped replied: Good Lord - I truly had no idea, but Iguess with only dad being the boy and 4 other women I wouldn't know these little things!
tammyhopkins replied: I know and when i asked mom she had no idea either, nor did Lori. I am glad that we had the boys in the family and had to figure that out on our own LOL
I guess dad didn't see the conversation needing to be told that when men pee they shake LOL
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Oh gosh you all are freaking me out with your stories! I did NOT grow up with boys in the house, so I really had no idea about the shaking thing! I guess Lysol disinfecting wipes has got my business for the next 18 years!
moped replied: We were 3 girls too Rae
Lets buy shares in Lysol!
redchief replied: OMG, the one reason I hang out on a mostly female forum is to give masculine advice and I totally missed this thread! Shame on me.
For what it's worth (and with tongue firmly planted in cheek):
Boys shake, not more than three times of course, Aimee (thanks for the reminder Abbie). Boys are more economically and environmentally friendly since they don't use nearly as much paper as girls do. There is always a trade off whenever you have a savings - after all you only get what you pay for, so boys sometimes miss.
Finally a question: What makes you think that the addition of a trough would improve accuracy any? All bathrooms should have a urinal. Why doesn't every bathroom have one? Because guys only get to design stadiums, we aren't allowed to say what we want in the bathroom.
redplaydoh replied: Ok... I HAVE to know. When it's shaken is it left to right or up and down. Won't the drops sling waaaaaaaaaaayyyy outside the bowl area???
I had to take pics of my toilet. Me and my signs.... As I said before, we make our boys sit at home and stand in public "because we don't have a stand-up-to-pee toilet, we have a sit-down-to-pee toilet at home. I put the signs up as a reminder. DH's mom made all 3 of her boys sit too...

moped replied: That is almost like a bedet (sp) and the dribbles go right about where their knees are...........so i am teached Jack to do a quick wipe of the dribbles and shake if he must!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Is it a bedet? Is that thing on the wall where you flush?
Ethan shakes up and down No drops, but then again I'm very anal about keeping my toilets clean and the Clorox wipes sit right there. I must wipe it down several times a day.
redchief replied: Attention Lisa said I can put a urinal in the new bathroom when we renovate!!!
moped replied: It would still have to be cleaned Ed!!!!!
ediep replied: yup, Jason told me " I don't need toilet paper, I just shake"
redchief replied: Urinals are easy to clean. You don't even have to bend down!
Twelve Volt Man replied: Interesting thread, but allow me to clarify things. Boys shake, not wipe. As we grow older, and wiser, we shake more vigorously and frequently.
moped replied: I don't doubt that for a second!
redplaydoh replied:
Nope, it's a regular toilet. The hinge on the seat comes up to make a child sized toilet seat.
Yes those are flush buttons on the wall. The big one for #2 and the small one for #1... have to conserve water y'know.
redplaydoh replied: Oops I meant to add that toilets here are attached from the wall. The tank is hidden within the wall vs. sitting on the floor. So the toilet doesn't touch the floor.
