Public restrooms...

MommyToAshley wrote: Now that most of the toddlers here are either in the process of potty training or have been potty trained, I would like to ask what you do about public restrooms. I know we had a similar conversation about this when Ashley first started potty training. Someone suggested one of the portable potty seats, but I don't think I want to carry that around.

Right now, I carry some sani-wipes and some disposable toilet seat covers in my purse (They come in little small packets). It takes me a few minutes to wipe the toilet off, so Ashley gets antsy. And, sometimes the toilet seat covers don't stay in place. I tried holding Ashley above the potty as she squatted one time.... let's just say that didn't go so well. blush.gif

What do you do?

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Katy refuses any kind of seat cover so usually I just wipe it off....If it looked gross I would either insist on a liner thing (after wiping it off) of find another bathroom.

Kaitlin'smom replied: I wipe them down and put a liner, but I was with out eighter the other day she had to potty so I made due, she did go but sheesh I wonder about how some public bathrooms can be so gross.

Boys r us replied: Well, I'm pretty lucky!! Brae normally doesn't need to sit down, so I can crouch down and rest his bum on my knee..which puts him at the right height to aim in the hole. But if he does need to do more than pee, I have a little water spray bottle that is pretty compact, I keep disinfectant cleaner in it and I will spray it on the toilet and then spread paper towels over the seat after that! I'm a FRRRREEEAAAAAKKKK about germs..so maybe I go too far..but I flip if he even touchs the toilet paper without me ripping the end off of it first!!

kit_kats_mom replied: I use the portable potty seat. I just keep it in the diaper bag that K and L share now. If we are anywhere near the car though, she uses the potty seat that's in there.

jcc64 replied: Corey's pretty used to squatting from all the time we spend at the ball field ( I refuse to allow her to go in the port-o-john, so I take her in the woods). In public restrooms, I have her put her feet on the toilet seat, and squat over it. We've gotten pretty good at it.

A&A'smommy replied: Great ideas thanks all because I have been wondering the same thing I even had a little anxiety about it!! blush.gif I think we are going to use a portable potty seat AND disinfected wipes or spray I am a freak about germs too Nichole!!

TANNER'S MOM replied: I love Nicholes idea for me!

lolol

mammag replied: I used a portable seat with Kristen but I hated picking it back up!

With the boys it was like Nichole....They very rarely wanted to go poo when we were out so I would just clean it then. That is one of the big benefits of boys. biggrin.gif

Josie83 replied: God okay worst mother ever over here laugh.gif

I would wipe the seat down but nothing more if she was going in a public toilet xx

amynicole21 replied: We have the portable fold-up seat but Sophia doesn't like it. She's used it once or twice. Otherwise I just line it with toilet paper or a seat cover.

kimberley replied: unsure.gif never had this problem with the boys lol. i personally cannot stand public washrooms and "hover" myself... for Jade, i might try Jeanne's approach tongue.gif
