Pricing Question (long sorry) - for a benefit car wash/ other things
holley79 wrote: Myself and two deputies have organized a benefit car wash. One of our Deputy's daughter has scoliosis (sp?) and her spine is growing in toward her lungs. She has to go all the way to Miami to the Children's Hospital there for the surgery. To top it off she has DiGeorge Syndrome which effects the immune system and heart. She had heart surgeries in the past. Needless to say she is a sick little girl.
A cotton candy machine and a bounce house has been donated to us free of charge to use on this day. We are still working on grocery stores about hamburgers and hot dogs. If we have to we will go out and buy the darn things ourselves. We already have bought the stuff to make cotton candy since that was the deal that we buy the ingredients and they donate the machine.
So here are my questions: Anyone know anything about cotton candy machines? We are going to make cotton candy at the benefit car wash. I don't have a clue what I'm doing.
Do you prefer bagged cotton candy or cotton candy on a stick?
Second part. We are also doing hamburgers and hot dogs. Here's what our pricing is going to look like. Do you think these are too high too low? All profit from the sale of food, cotton candy, bounce house tickets, T Shirt sales, and car wash is going to the family.:
Hamburgers 2.00 Cheeseburger 2.25 Chili Cheese burger 2.50 Hot Dog 1.25 Chili dog 1.50 Chili cheese dog 1.75 Cotton Candy 1.00
Bounce house tickets will be 1.00 for 5 minutes.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
PrairieMom replied: IMO cotton candy is way more fun on a stick, and if I was given a choice I would definitely buy the cotton candy on the stick. However, I think everyone else may prefer bags. less mess, and you can save it for later. This sounds like tons of fun, and I want to go!
HuskerMom replied: I think cotton candy on a stick is more fun, but I would rather buy it in a bag in case I wanted to save some for later. I think your prices are good. I hope you make a lot of money for the little girl and her family!
momofone replied: Maybe a jar for cash donations as well?
CantWait replied: Guess how many jelly beans are in the jar contest. 50/50 contest.
Bagged cotton candy, so it can be saved.
CantWait replied: Oh ya, let us know how it goes, good luck.
Kaitlin'smom replied: well with my benifit for my sitters sick son is saturday (talk about getting stressed) anyway we are also doing a food area and most say anything over $1 for a plain Hotdog they wont pay for, but I am not sure what area you live in, so $1.25 might be a good deal. We are hoping that our GFS rep will come though on some of the food donations for us, if not we will also have to buy the stuff I do know Kroger (if you have one) had some really good hotdogs for $1 a pack.
if your able to do any raffels thaose are good.
when is your event? I can give you more tips once ours goes and see what worked and what did not.
holley79 replied: November 17th. How many Hot dogs/ hamburgers have you purchased for your event?
We have a radio station who is doing a remote broadcast and everything. It's also going to be on the calender of events of the local news channels. It's getting to be crazy. We have had a bunch of people contacting us to purchase T- Shirts. Fliers have been emailed out by various people outside of the three of us from Mobile, AL to Jacksonville, FL. I have already recieved numerous emails. Needless to say this is getting bigger then I ever thought it would be.
momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: I didn't see anything about drinks. My mom does all of the community cooridanting stuff for Walmart and when she plans different events she always asks McDonalds to donate the orange drink and cups and they always come through for her. She also processes the requests for donations so I would contact Walmart for hamburgers/hotdogs and all the buns to see if they can help there.
If anyone has a Sams membership I buy a box of 40 burgers for $15.88 and a box of 80 hotdogs for $15.88 (Ohio prices). So if you have to buy that may be a good option. If noone has a Sams membership I am sure you could probably get similar pricing at GFS if you have any of those.
Let us know how it turns out. Sounds like it is going to go well for the family.
stella6979 replied: I think your prices are perfect and since all the proceeds are being donated I really don't see how anyone could think they're too much. I'd gladly pay those prices knowing it was all going to help someone who truly needed it. As for the cotton candy, I'd prefer a bag as well (to save for later). I also agree about asking around regarding donations for the food and stuff. I've put together a few events and you'd be surprised at what some people are willing to donate. I hope it turns out great and think it's awesome of you all to do this for them.
Calimama replied: The prices are great!!! I agree with Sams Club.. they had a pack of 100 hot dogs for 9.88!! Oh and I would prefer a bag rather than a stick.
momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: I forgot to add that it is very nice of the you and the other deputies to be doing this event for a fellow worker. If there were just more people out there willing to help others we would all be better off.
I would do the cotton candy in the bag too.
I don't know how big it is there, but around here Cornhole is crazy popular. Maybe you could also arrange for a cornhole competition where the teams have to pay an entry fee to compete and then the winner gets an award and the remaining amount of the entry fees go to the family.
My2Beauties replied: I like the cornhole event answer someone gave, cornhole is huge here. That'd generate some nice donations probably.
I'd prefer cotton candy in a bag because it's less messy, most people probably would.
I think the prices are totally fine, I agree about drinks though, need to have some drinks.
If you guys don't have a Sam's Club, check out Costco as well.
Calimama replied: What's Corn hole?
holley79 replied: I contacted Winn Dixie yesterday and that's a good to go. Wal Mart and Sam's Club I faxed today. I do have a Sam's membership so that is no biggy there. We are also in contact with Buffalo Rock for the drinks and chips. We will see. What started out very small has now exploded before our very own eyes. Word of mouth will do that.
holley79 replied: Girls we are not doing anymore events. We had thought about doing different little things but it's gotten WAY too big as it is. My friends and I's heads are spinning on our shoulders. Keep in mind I still have munchkin to chase around.
momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: Somehow I knew when I brought it no one would know what it was. I admitt the name sounds crazy, but the game is really fun. I am an transplant Ohioian. I grew up in VA Beach, and let me be the first to stay alot that goes on in the corn belt should stay in the corn belt.
This is what cornhole is:
Cornhole, Corn Toss, Bags, Bean Bag Toss, Tumor Toss, or Baggo is a game in which players take turns pitching small bags filled with corn (or sand or beans) at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. These platforms are usually plywood sometimes plastic and either all white or decorated with a team name or any other custom creation. A corn bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point. Play continues until a player reaches the score of 21. The platforms measure 4 ft (1.2 m)×2 ft (0.6 m). The Cornhole platforms are set 30ft from hole to hole while the player can stand anywhere from no further than the back of the platform but not any closer than the front of the platform.

Here is an image of board.
holley79 replied: We do that with mini sand bags. That was on our "activities" suggestion sheets when we were making them. We are only running this benefit for 5 hours.
DVFlyer replied: Ummmmm Cornhole as a game?
Why does a Jeff Foxworthy "you might be a redneck" joke come to mind.......
DVFlyer replied: You should have a way for people to see how much they've donated. i.e. thermometer or maybe even a map on where the girl needs to go. You could put a little truck or plane starting at "home" and as the money comes in, the truck/ plane etc moves closer to her destination and ultimately help for her.
Kind of like when they do a fireworks fundraiser.
I'm sure people would love to see their money make a difference and a "goal map" would help with that.
