Potty training?'s

kayla's mama wrote: I know that Kayla is not ready yet, I don't think, but when is the average age of potty training?
Jason's aunt, who has 9 kids, starting with the youngest at 10 months and was fully trained by almost 12-14 months. IMO thats early but what do I know I'm a first time momma.

I think it varies for each child but for Jacob I put the potty chair in the bathroom about 12 months and he started to use it occasionally after that. He was potty trained completely by 22 months but my friends little boy was by 18 months. So I think it varies for all kids.

I also think if they are showing signs that they are not ready when you are trying to train them that you should back off and give them more tim. wink.gif JMO.

kayla's mama replied: Thanks wink.gif

Since she walking good now I want to try to get her started buy you know I don't even see the signs when she has to go, kwim!!!! I think we might go ahead and get a potty chair this weekend and have it ready.

mummy2girls replied: It depends on the child.. they will give you signs when they are ready!

Jenna is 5 months older than her cousina nd her cousin was potty trained before jenna. Jenna still has to use pull ups to bed but her cousin doesnt.

usually around 18month- 24 months is when you start. But lieki said some will earler then that.

What you can do is put a potty in the washrooma dn have your child sit on the potty and just get used to the idea of the potty. When you go pee have your child come in with you so they can see how to pee on the potty.

kayla's mama replied:

Thats what I was thinking. Kinda get her used to the idea of what you do in the bathroom.

1lilpeanut2love replied: Kaylee is always in the bathroom with me when I go!! LOL

My friends child who is 20 months DOESN"T like to use the little potty, she will only go on the big people potty!!

luvmykids replied:
Same here, none of them like the potty chair but did like the little seats you can put over the big seat. Definitely don't do it if she doesn't seem ready, you'll both be very frustrated! The twins weren't completely trained until close to 3, Macie just turned 2 and we have some days she's dry 100% and other days she acts like she has no clue, so I'm not pushing it.

I always went to the bathroom in front of the kids (does a mom have any other option lol) and when we were ready to start I'd say "Yay mommy, I'm a big girl ..." and we keep books in there that are for that purpose only. And a stool, when they're learning to poop sometimes they need to have their feet on something to be able to push (tmi?). When you do start, try it about 20 min after eating or drinking and give her a few minutes on the pot, mine never went right that second.

rolling_smile.gif well I missed a few times and hit my thumb *&%^*$^%#$%^

My3LilMonkeys replied: Brooke is 29 months and has only peed on the potty twice. She has absolutely no interest in potty training no matter what I try.

So we try again about once a month, and when she's ready she'll learn.

GIRL U ARE TOO DARN FUNNY!! YOU COMEDIAN!! laugh.gif rolling_smile.gif

luvmykids replied:
Thats another thing, don't let anyone try to convince you she "should" be pt'd already. I had everyone over the age of 60 tsking at me and telling me aaaaall their kids were by 2. Puh-leeze! I think they just have bad memories, thats a long time for someone to remember back to! I can't even remember what they did 58 days ago, forget it in 58 years!

1lilpeanut2love replied:
You are right. I agree with you again!! You had me cracking up reading that!! rolling_smile.gif

mummy2girls replied: and dont worry if you think they will never get the hang of it. jenna was 3 when she finally got potty trained. I thought she would never get trained so i just stopped bugging her and within a few days she was tarined.

Brias3 replied: I'm in the same boat as Monica. At nearly two and a half, Mason sometimes is completely good about the potty, even ASKS to go on it and stays dry, other days its like he's never seen the thing in his life. He's definitely been the slowest learner. I started my first two right around age 2 (Aliyah was a little earlier) and it took some time. Ryan had a real tough time with it, was VERY insistent on keeping diapers. Aliyah just wanted Cinderella underwear laugh.gif We never did have much luck with the small potty chair. The one we had for Ryan was a racecar potty that made car noises when he went and that totally freaked him out so that was the end of that.

I wouldn't rush it at all. Like they always say, they won't go to high school in diapers! I do admit to using bribery a bit but I certainly just backed off for awhile if I found them to be getting frustrated with the situation.
