Please keep your fingers crossed - Fire at horse farm
luvmykids wrote: I just saw on the news that there is a fire at the breeding farm where 3 of our race horses and their babies are, they said they don't know anything except that it was in one of the barns ....Of course DH, the trainer, or I can't get in touch with anyone to find out if all the horses got out or if any of ours were even affected.

luvmykids replied: OK, just got a call from our trainer, he's hearing that it was the stud barn and that they're all gone. Don't know if it's true or not, I'm sure speculation flies at a time like this.
There's also a rumor that the owners started it, they own a horse named Fredericksburg who is legendary and sold lifelong breeding rights for 2 babies a year to 20 people for a lot of money (it's called a syndicate and the point is he's this awesome horse but it's only the lucky few who will be able to breed with him). Unfortunately, we bought into it too but the rumor is that he was sterile and giving everyone their money back would break them so they started the fire .... who knows.
No matter what, it's awful if any of those horses died and what's really driving me crazy is that we just don't know if our horses are ok or not.

aspenblue1 replied: That is so sad. Those poor horses.
luvmykids replied: Amen to that.
We know for sure our girls and their babies are ok. It was in fact their stud barn, they lost 8 studs and one mare who wasn't in the barn but nearby. No one knows anything else that isn't just rumor, it's all under a tight lid while being investigated not only because of the speculation that they were in financial trouble but just because of the sheer amount of the insurance claim.
The thing that makes it fishy to me is that they have night watchmen in those barns 24 hour video surveillance, etc, I mean horse breeders guard their studs like the rest of us would guard a thousand dollar bill, so are they expecting it to make sense that they didn't have time to get the horses out? Even if you just run through and open stall doors and worry about catching them later. But it also could have been something like a gas explosion I guess, in which case no one would have had time and mercifully the horses wouldn't have known what hit them.
Interestingly, someone told me today that they would die of the heat before they died of inhalation or suffocation, in which case it wasn't as bad as I imagined. Still, horrible for the poor animals who worked so hard and gave their all to go out that way.
amynicole21 replied: That's awful.
I'm glad your horses were ok, though.
~~*Missi*~~ replied: ahhhh god bless them... I can't imagine what is worse thou, cooking to death, or lack of breathing..... poor horses.....
Keep us informed and if that person did do it for money he should be locked in a barn and lite on fire:)
luvmykids replied: Thank you, it was a big (selfish) relief. One is our first horse we ever bought and she's part of the family and this is her first baby. Plus I just cancelled the insurance on all the non-running horses so I would have been in hot water with DH and the trainer.
A&A'smommy replied: Goodness I'm sorry to hear that but I'm glad your horses are okay!! Keep us updated!!
luvbug00 replied: gLAD HORSES ARE OK!!!
