Please help me choose a sundress style

cameragirl21 wrote: Ok, i'm putting together a set of notecard pictures for the Susan Komen Foundation which raises money for a cure for breast cancer in case anyone is not familiar.
i'm using 3 little girls--2 who lost someone to breast cancer and one whose mother is a BC survivor.
The BC color is pink, so they will all be wearing pink dresses because that is how i envision it. the girls are 6, 5, and 10 months of age.
I need their dresses to match because otherwise it is distracting. i am fortunate to have found a clothing designer who will be making the dresses. she needs me to tell her what kind of dress i want and i'm not sure, i just chose a few examples that i like.
ok, here is what i like so far...these dresses are NOT going to be in the pic, it's just a question of style. they will be pink, not these colors in the pics.
ok, tell me which of these styles you like for pink, girly, breast cancer awareness dresses on little girls.
thanks.
here's the first one....

or this one....i really like this one.

or this one....

or something along these lines...this is a collection of several dresses, i just like the style.

My3LilMonkeys replied: I think the 3rd one is gorgeous - but I think it's a bit young looking for a 10 yr old. I think the 2nd one is best in terms of being beautiful and fitting for all 3 ages.

Jamison'smama replied: I think the oldest is 6 right? I like the style of the first dress--in all light pink, it would be really cute.

Calimama replied: IMO the first looks cheap and the third one looks like it's for a wedding. I'd go with the second or fourth.

cameragirl21 replied:
10 months, not 10 years, the oldest is 6.
thanks for the suggestions, it's hard to try to design clothing. i've had stuff custom made for models before but then i always had a very specific idea of what i wanted...now i'm not as sure.

My3LilMonkeys replied:
oops blush.gif I blame the distraction of a 2 year old.

I still like the 2nd one though for what you are doing.

cameragirl21 replied:
i really like the second one too, it's sweet and girly. thanks for your input. happy.gif

Crystalina replied: For some reason the third link would not open for me. dry.gif I can't give input on that one.

The first one is a big no for me.

The second one is nice but I'm not fond of the ruffling going on with it.

The last link has so many that I just loved that I'll probably buy something from it! rolling_smile.gif I really liked them all and they looked so pure.

Sam & Abby's Mom replied: number 2 for sure

C&K*s Mommie replied: I liked the one in the third link, and the "lined girl's sundress" and the "new slip dress" from the link given as #4. wub.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: 2nd thumb.gif

jcc64 replied: Well, the 2nd is the cutest dress, imo. But I like the 4th link b/c the dresses are so simple, classic, and pure, which would let the girls' features take front and center, kwim? Sometimes, if there's too much going on with the clothing, it distracts from the people.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I like #4, it's classic and simple.

Just a question, though. Will the notecards be for your area only? I'd love to see the finished product. We are contributors to the Susan G Komen fund, as we lost Scotty's mother to BC and my mother is a BC survivor.

stella6979 replied:
I agree.

cameragirl21 replied:
i'm sorry to hear about Scotty's mother and congrats to your mom for being a survivor. i've had meetings with the South Florida chapter but the plan is to make it a national project, i spoke to national yesterday, they are in Texas. anyway, like i said, the plan is to make it national and i asked the local chapter to help get it to national as it's easier to start locally and then present the finished product to national.
barring anything unexpected (such as the dresses not being made on time or one of the children being sick that day, etc) the pics are going to be taken on the 25th of this month. i'll post them here when they're done so you can see them. i can also send you some via snail mail so you can present them to your local chapter if you wish.
if this project is successful enough, hopefully we'll take more pics and make more notecards and then maybe i can come to your neck of the woods and photograph Maddie as representing both a victim and a survivor of BC.
the symbolism behind this project is that unfortunately, every little girl who has a BC victim or survivor in her family puts her at risk as the disease is genetic...i'm hoping that by the time these little girls are old enough to be at risk, we'll have a cure so there will no true risk for them.
again, kudos to your mom, she is a true hero. hug.gif

momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: Ok, not to change your mind on any of the ones that you found. But, I guess I was thinking maybe a little more fancy than just a sundress, but not wedding fancy. This is a link to a Butterick Pattern

http://www.butterick.com/item/B4220.htm?ta...rls_plus&page=3

It is still a sundress style, but a little fancier than the ones you found. I think it would look good on all three age groups as well. JMO.

If I had to choose one of the ones you had I think it would be from one of the ones in the fourth link. Good luck, I know it is hard to get different age groups to look good in the same outfit.

cameragirl21 replied:
those patterns are nice but i wanted something a little more girly and feminine. these girls are sharing their lives, histories and tragedies with the world to be a part of the cure for a disease that predominantly strikes women (although some men have gotten it too as i understand it although i could be wrong on that) so i wanted the picture to have a very feminine but innocent and girly feel to it.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:

That's very sweet and thoughtful of you. I hope it goes national...that would be awesome. I would love for you to send me some via snail mail as well. I'll PM you my information. wink.gif

I am more concerned for Maddie than myself. My mother did not carry the breast cancer gene...her bc was hormone receptive. Meaning she got it from artificial hormones. sleep.gif This is why I don't take bcp and try to be as organic as possible. More than likely I do not carry the gene. BUT, Maddie is at a higher risk of carrying the gene since my MIL did. That scares the #$%& out of me. sad.gif

It would be awesome for you to photograph Maddie. I would actually love a picture of Maddie, my mother and I. We had plans to do a generation picture this summer (including my 96 y.o grandmother) but the photographer cancelled on us. Anyway, I would more than likely be in your neck of the woods before you'd be in mine. rolling_smile.gif I'll make a deal, if I come to Miami, I'll call you and you can take some family pics of us on the beach. thumb.gif

cameragirl21 replied:
you've got yourself a deal, Aimee. i'll for sure share the pics with the board and then i'll snail mail you some.
we will have a cure by the time Maddie is old enough for there to be any concern, i am sure of it. happy.gif
i'm really sorry to hear your photographer cancelled an important shoot like that, what an @$$.
let me know when you're coming this way and i'll fit you in no matter how busy i am.
i'll keep you (and probably the whole board, lol) posted on how all this goes with the Komen Foundation. like i said, if the project is very successful, we'll take more pics and Maddie would be a great candidate for something like this, plus she's so darn cute that no one could resist buying notecards with her on them. wub.gif

momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: I completely understand. Once you get an image in your head, that is exactly how you see it. I can't wait to see pics of the dresses and the girls. You always work on such exciting projects. I love the calendar you did for ALS. My DH's grandmother passed from that I think 18-20 years ago. He said that has got to be the hardest disease to watch someone die of. I lost my grandmother 2 years ago to Breast Cancer and that was a hard one to see too. I was able to take my oldest to VA 1 month before she passed so she would have just one more memory of her. Thank you for doing what you do. We need a lot more people in the world like you. biggrin.gif

cameragirl21 replied:
what a nice thing to say, Cyndi, thank you. hug.gif
Sorry to hear about your grandma, cancer really is such an awful disease. And yes, your DH is right, it just doesn't get any worse than ALS, it must have been terrible to see his grandma go thru that. Did you show him the calendar?
I'm so glad you guys got the calendar, every donation really goes a long way for the cure.
i will for sure share the pics for breast cancer when i have them, i'm really looking forward to taking them, the girls are so excited. smile.gif

Jamison'smama replied: I am all alone liking the first dress....I just see it as a crisp cotton, all in pink (I don't like that two tone). I love really crisp cotton dresses---the kind that have to be really ironed with sizing. I also like the empire waist on the dress---really sweet on little girls and give a little more old fashioned feeling with long curls or a low bow in their hair. It would also look casual enough for bare feet.

I also love Strasburg dresses--the outfit on the bloomers near the bottom was similar to Jamison's first birthday outfit.

cameragirl21 replied:
i like number one also but i sent a link to number 2 to the designer today, mainly because it is closest to her style and while she said she'd make me anything i wanted, as an artist i wanted to respect her artistic style and give her the opportunity to make something that reflects her style and artistic vision. she said she'd make me a sample, i still have to choose the fabrics...as soon as the dresses are made i'll post a pic, i can see people are quite excited about this project and i'm really glad, i think it will be a lot of fun to do and i too am excited about the project and about getting the finished product.
thanks to everyone who contributed for your opinions, i'll keep everyone posted on the progress. happy.gif

momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied:
You're welcome. Casey keeps the calendar in her office so I don't get to see it often. The couple of times DH has been in I never think to show it to him. If you do have as good a job on the Breast Cancer project as you did on the ALS it will be AMAZING!!!!! Can't wait to see.
