What do yall think?
gr33n3y3z replied: Its a bad idea but then again I dont live there so it shouldnt matter what I feel about it
BabyOwen427 replied: I don't see a problem with it. Go her! for standing up for her right to protect herself!
Mommy2Isabella replied: I am no longer shocked by the crazy things people do!
How many teachers have been on the news for sleeping with the children they teach? SICK!
luvbug00 replied: I get carrying in her car. but in the classroom I'd be one po parent.
bunkie replied: I 100% support her. She is licensed to carry a concealed weapon, that requires classes and range time which you have to pass before they give it to you. There is no point in her having it in her bag in the car if her risk is at the school. What if her husband walked in to her classroom with intentions of shooting her and a few students? If she can shoot first the issue is resolved and lives are saved.
Obviously I am bias, I am a gun owner and taking my concealed carry test next month. I will carry anywhere and EVERYWHERE I am allowed.
Calimama replied: I would be worried about her having it in a classroom with MY child, but as long as she kept it in a locked cabinet then I guess it's okay.
Insanemomof3 replied: You know, I am all for her protecting herself, fine. BUT what happens if one of the kids gets a hold of it? I would not be comfortable with my child in the room but then, I hate guns and so I am a bad person to ask. CArry mace for goodness sake. much safer.
My2Beauties replied: absolutely not...she should nto have it in a classroom. What if a kid got a hold of it. Shouldn't the school have security to where this person cannot get in and out of the building anyways and they could have someone walk her to her car everyday. I mean get serious, guns in school!!! Not in my child's school I'd raise all kinds of cain.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I am more concerned by the statement that she needs to be protected by a violent ex...If the gun is locked up in a cabinet and he walks in the door with the intent to hurt/kill her-the gun across the room is not probably going to help! If this ex is so violent she needs to be protected from him then is a classroom full of children a place where she should be?
jcc64 replied: I think it's the stupidest thing I ever heard, tbh. Schools are supposed to have a zero tolerance policy regarding weapons, and teachers should not be exempt. The idea that a possible gunfight could break out between her and her crazy ex-husband, with bullets flying through a classroom full of kids, makes me want to vomit. The fact that her private life is out of control should be of little consequence to the children in that school. Why are her needs more important than those of the kids to be in a violence free environment while they're trying to learn?? Further, the safety of all of our children trumps the rights and needs of gun owners to carry guns everywhere. Though the NRA and other interest groups would have us believe otherwise, there are some things that are more important than guns. And just curiously, does the school not have any safety procedures in place for unauthorized people entering the building? In my kids' schools, all but the front entrance are locked, at which a security guard sits. If a crazed gun man can so easily get inside a school building, I'd have to question the safety policies of that school district. If teachers need to come to school packing to feel safe, something's seriously wrong.
I know there are alot of proud, responsible gun owners on this board. I'm sure this post will incite some of them to slam me for my views. But I'm nothing if not consistent. No one's telling people they can't have their guns. But there's a time and a place, and school ain't it.
bunkie replied: I highly doubt the teacher sits it up there on her desk with all chance for students to grab it.
Under law when someone carries a concealed weapon it has to be CONCEALED. That weapon has to be hidden on her person at all times. I think you are all too quick to assume that just because someone has a gun they are irresponsible. We have several guns in a house with children. They aren't just laying around loaded waiting for someone to fire them..
coasterqueen replied: I completely agree with you. I would NOT want my child in her classroom.
Does anyone know if there is protection for the teachers and kids when on the playground? That concerns me.
jcc64 replied:
I really don't think I could have stated it any clearer than this.
Insanemomof3 replied: That sounds a bit judgemental...I stated that I am all for people protecting themselves, but I am into protecting my children and having them around guns is not a place I would choose to have them. I don't think school is an appropriate place for a gun to be. My god.
bunkie replied: Why is school holier then a home? I was raised with guns so I don't fear them, maybe that is the difference between me and the rest of the anti-gun people on this board.
gr33n3y3z replied: exactly why is she even teaching children if her life is in danger get her out of there if its putting others (Children) in harms way
gr33n3y3z replied: I was raised with guns also but it doesnt make it right and no way should they be allowed in any school system. And its has nothing to do with Anti Gun ppl. on this board its called common sence which never mind .............
coasterqueen replied: I am not anti-gun. There may be a few that are, but that doesn't mean those, including me, that believe guns shouldn't be in the school means we should be classified as "anti-gun".
I, myself, was raised around guns growing up. And they were NOT in locked cabinets - they were easily accessible to anyone. My father used to hunt quite often when I was growing up.
I just do not believe guns should be in the school. It's different in your home. YOU are responsible for it. YOU are the one who has to live with any mistakes that may happen, etc. YOU are in control.
If you send your child to school where others are carrying guns YOU are NOT in control of the situation at all. I could go on with my explanation, but my daughter is not allowing me time here.
I agree wholeheartedly with Jeanne's response that if schools have a no tolerance policy to guns and other weapons when it comes to kids then it should be the same for adults.
jcc64 replied:
The difference is simple: Your home is your domain. If you want to live your life with a gun on every sofa, counter, in your bathtub..... that's your prerogative, and the consequences of doing so will be yours' alone.
A school is a community building, used by many who don't share your love of guns, and they, and mainly we are talking about young children, deserve the right to attend school without the possibility of violence erupting around them. We as parents deserve to believe that our children are safe. The only way to do so is to keep the Wild West out of the classroom.
And fwiw, I am not anti-gun, which I also said in my OP. I think there's a time and a place, and there should be some common sense limitations put on where it's appropriate to carry a weapon capable of mass destruction. I don't care how much gun safety/education/responsibility someone has- too much is left up to the unknown. I'm sure the guy who sold the guns to the Virginia Tech shooter didn't think he was crazy, but he was......
lisar replied: Here where I am in, its real easy to get the concealed weapons permit. Range time consist of when you take your class you have to shoot at a target 7 feet away. (anyone can hit this huge target) And 4 hours in a class teaching you the laws. And one of the laws is "Dont carry to a school" Hello I think that rule applies even if you work there. And I know that here where I am teachers are not allowed to carry. They can make these rules. And for her having it on her in the class, what happens now when all the kids now know she is carrying and they bum rush her and take it from her.
I have a concealed permit, I know the rules and laws and the ins and outs. But I dont think a teacher should carry for the simple fact that the kids could take it from her. KWIM?

Ita, Lisa. Wow, we are on the same side of a gun debate?!!!! The world as we knew it has just ceased to exist!
Lisa is who I was referring to when I said "proud resposible gun owners on this board". Unfortunately, not everyone with a gun is as conscientious as she is, and that's what scares me.
Insanemomof3 replied: I am not anti-gun. I am anti-gun in MY life...I don't want my kids around guns....I don't care if others have them. Just keep them out of school!!!!! If she had it in her home I would not care one bit. But SCHOOL? come on!
bunkie replied: It must be more difficult to get one where I live then because I will have to do a lot more then just that. I want to move to your state.
Thank you everyone for answering my question, I like seeing your view points!
lisar replied: LOL I know right. Were on the same page. LOL...
And I think as long as parents are resposible with them and teach kids saftey and ofcourse keep them locked up then we should be able to have them. And hey if you dont like them and dont want them in your home then thats fine also.
lisar replied: Well there is a little more. Of course the finger printing and the back ground checks but other than that its easy in Florida.
