Pack your bags - we're going on a guilt trip
HuskerMom wrote: I had my 6 week check up today and the nurse asked what I wanted to do about birth control. Well I decided not to get a mirena so I just said that we were going to use condoms for now. We're not sure if we're going to have another child or not and if we're not I'm just going to get my tubes tied. Well the nurse said 'well you really should be on something'. And I wanted to say well it's my decision so keep your opinions to yourself. Then later on she said 'using condoms is a good way to get pregnant'. I wanted to tell her that I'd already made my decision and trying to guilt me into something different isn't going to make me change my mind. Sorry just had to vent.
PrairieMom replied: WTH? What are you 16? HELLO! you HAVE children, I'm pretty sure you have figured out how it works. I hate it when people are condescending towards me. You don't HAVE to be on anything at all. she needs to mind her own business.
Boys r us replied: Wow..she probably would have peed her pants if you told her you were gonna use 'Natural Family Planning' LOL!!!!!!!!
Kaitlin'smom replied: OMG how RUDE of her asking once is fine but tring to make you feel guilty NO way I woudl have asked her so what do you use? in a very snotty tone. Why do they feel the need at 6 wks ppd thye have to annoy you with that?
A&A'smommy replied: OH NO SHE DIDN'T!!!!!!! She needs to MIND her own business!!!!!!!! Sorry she was rude to you!!!
HuskerMom replied: I know! They've been bugging me about birth control since I was 7 months pregnant!
luvmykids replied: WOW, I would have had a very hard time keeping my cool
Bamamom replied: Yeah - that would have ticked me off too. My OB knows better than to even ask. We'll handle that part of things - you just deliver the babies.
mckayleesmom replied: Wow...that was pretty unprofessional.....It's not really her business.
BabyOwen427 replied: She must not value her job much. Pushing BC on people, doesn't she know what keeps her in business? Babies!
Danalana replied: Wow! I went to mine today too (late, of course)...he asked what kind I wanted to be on, and I said "I don't want any. We are going to try again." He didn't pursue it at all. Sorry she was so rude!
moped replied: Yeah I know how they are - same thing here......I told her DH was getting a V and she didn't like that answer either!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: OMG I would have been so mad. I HATE it when nurses or doctors think they know everything. I would have told her to shut up.
Celestrina replied: I would have said something to the Dr. From my experience they don't want nurses that are that rude and condescending, especially if they are trying to push something on a patient that they don't want.
gr33n3y3z replied: That was very rude her What is it her business if you want to use or not use birth control anyway
**I just dont understand how ppl. feel they need to run others lives.**
My3LilMonkeys replied: How rude!!! I know it's her job to ask so they can prescribe pills or whatever if you want them, but beyond that it's none of her business!!
grapfruit replied: Wow, mine always asks when I'm ready to come off b/c and get pregnant.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: That is SO RUDE!!! I would probably call the office and complain! Sorry she behaved that way
stella6979 replied: I definitely would have told her to SHUT UP!!! And for what it's worth, Avery is 2 and we've been using condoms since after she was born and have had no problems. It's all just a matter of being careful so she really has no idea what she's talking about. I personally just refuse to take birth control due to the side effects, but that's just me.
grapfruit replied: Actually I have a friend that used that method between their oldest and youngest (7 years!). Their youngest was sort of an "oops" but they knew the risks. They were away for the weekend and she warned him it wasn't a good day for it and he said, "I don't care!!". 9 months later they had a son! So it can work!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: :ditto: Condoms are all we've EVER used. We've only ever gotten pg when we've tried, and it only took us one try all three times so if condoms weren't effective we definitely would have had a surprise by now!
5littleladies replied: Just chiming in here-Aside from a 5 months stint on the pill at the beginning, condoms is all we've ever used for our 11+ years of marriage. All our children were conceived when we planned them. No accidents or problems here. That nurse deserves a piece of somebodys mind!
HuskerMom replied: Yeah we've never had any problems with condoms either. I had a lot of problems with the depo shot so now I'm gun shy about any birth control. Condoms aren't very fun but at least I know I won't have any problems with them.
Edited to add that I didn't even think of anything to say to her because what she said caught me so off guard.
