Our tree - the adventure!
coasterqueen wrote: Well we went this morning to pick up our tree that we bought last week. We dropped the girls off at my parents first and borrowed their truck/trailer to go get it. We get to the nursery and I was looking at this tree thinking there is no way in heck Dh and I are going to be able to drop this tree in the hole alone and we definitely aren't getting this thing home by ourselves. The guy getting the tree ready (GORGEOUS I might add) kept telling me that I should look at this as an "adventure" and how we are saving $250 just bringing the thing home ourselves instead of having it delivered. I was like ok, fine, whatever. So they wrapped up the tree, loaded it in the trailer (after thinking long and hard on how it was gonna go in there) and then the gorgeous guy asked DH how far we had to. Dh told him about 5 to 10 miles all country roads. So the guy told him "ok, you should be fine, but someone should ride in back and hold this thing". Well I decided i was going to hold it because there was no way I'd be patient enough to drive 20 miles all the way home and take all the turns wide and slow (I'm not a patient person and we have LOTS of tight curves on our adventure).
Well after getting 1/2 way down the road I realized I should have drove. But I stuck it out in back. For one it was FREEZING! For two my hair became a good place for rats to live in by the time I got home! For three it started raining on our way home so I got pretty wet too.
But we got it home with me in one piece and the tree too. We had a heck of a time getting the tree to drop in the hole. We both had to sit in the back of the trailer and push with our feet with all our might to get it in the hole praying that when it dropped that it would land right and not break. It did good though.
Here are some pics of the tree...this one was it on the truck (dh already unwrapped the burlap on it).

This next one is the tree on the trailer just before we went for the plunge and hoped we got it in the hole:

And this one is the tree in the hole. Not a good shot of it, but it'll do.

Now we have to fill it in, it started pouring rain so we have to wait. We picked up the girls and showed Kylie the tree. She said "oh thank you mommy for my tree. You are the best mommy." She'll wonder why she said that when she's about 16 (especially when she realized what we spent and what we could have bought her for that )
Thanks for letting me share .

mom21kid2dogs replied: That tree is WAY bigger than our $500 tree but we did have them plant it. What kind did you get?
coasterqueen replied: it's a red sunset maple.
A&A'smommy replied: AWWWW well sounds like a fun "adventure" lol about Kylie she is such a sweet little girl!!
chloe&tysmommy replied: your stories are always so funny glad you and the tree got home in one piece Nice tree btw!
mammag replied: Looks great! Yeah, I think I would have done the driving. At least you and the tree made it home safe and sound.
DansMom replied: That tree is huge!! I can't believe the two of you did that yourselves. Good for you Kylie is being very complimentary to you lately I guess you really must be the best mommy
ferocity302 replied: awe..... how cute. I'm sure the tree will become a favorite place for all of you to share good time in and all that happened in the adventure will be small in comparison.
MommyToAshley replied: Yup, I think that qualifies for an "adventure". LOL!
I have this image of you riding in the back of that truck being bumped around by the tree with your hair blowing in the wind, and it pouring down rain... you poor thing. I probably imagine it worse than what it was. at leat I hope so.
But, congrats to you and your DH on a job well done, I bet Kylie will enjoy the shade!
MM'sMama replied: I couldn't agree more.
