Our new baby

About 2 years ago I felt as though the Lord was speaking to me about adding to our family through adoption. I knew this wasn't Scotty's heart, so I tried to dismiss it.

The desire only grew stronger as the Lord continued to prepare me for what was to come.

A little over a year ago we got a call from family, wanting us to adopt. At the time, the birth mom was pregnant and wanted to leave her husband and find a life of her own.

I prayed about it and decided that no matter what happened, I would be at peace. But I knew I was meant to be this child's mother.

In June, David was born. Healthy and perfect, I went to see him 2 weeks later. I prayed over him and when he woke in the night, I snuck him into bed with me to snuggle him. When I left, the peace was still there.

I saw him again at Thanksgiving, when he was 5 mos old. Shortly after that, he moved out of state with his birth mom to be closer to her family.

I wouldn't hear from them until 3 weeks ago when I got the call to meet her to pick him up. She was ready to sign the papers and release him to us.

The exchange was nothing short of amazing---a true miracle. Everything involved in this process has been a miracle. From God placing the desire in my heart, to Him preparing both Scotty and I, preparing the birth parents, the path that was paved on our way to pick him up, the way he responded to me and bonded with me immediately, to how quickly he adjusted to his new home and his new life....

It's too much to take in.

He has been such a blessing. Watching Maddie and Ethan with him just totally melts my heart. They love him so much.

But oh my gosh....

Scotty. I gave birth--TWICE! and I witnessed how much Scotty loves our other two babies, but to watch him love David the same way....especially after he wasn't sure adoption was something he could consider, O man my heart explodes!!

It's God at work. It was all Him.

*This is a family adoption and will be an open adoption as well {on mine and Scotty's terms, as we see fit for David.}

The most important thing is that he is safe, loved and a part of our family!

Danalana replied: Uhhhhhh...disregard my dumb question. If I had just remembered that he was born in June, I could have put 2 and 2 together. Awwww, what are you going to do for his first birthday?

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Oh Aimee I am so happy for you! What a wonderful story ~ I love that God started to get your heart ready for your new baby before he was even conceived! Scott and have always tossed the idea of adoption around as something we'd maybe like to do someday, but in the past few months - ever since the whole Haiti ordeal, we've been really realizing that we really do want to adopt, and maybe not in the so distant future as we'd originally thought.


Talk all you want about it! I'd love to hear all the details! You must be having the time of your life with him!

Sam & Abby's Mom replied: oh, wow. that is so awesome! Congrats to you and your family, Aimee. Call me crazy but I feel as if I remember you posting a long time ago that you would like to adopt someday but Scotty wasnt onboard. Either that or reading what you wrote just gave me deja vu! LOL

I'm so happy for you and THRILLED for little David b/c he couldn't have found his way into a better home! I know you will love this little boy and give him a life that he would never have had without being your son!

I guess I'm a little naive, but it's hard for me to imagine a BM giving up a baby after 10 months with him! But it sounds like she must really love him enough to think beyond her own selfish needs of wanting to keep him if her lifestyle isn't what he needs!

Questions..Hmmm..are you feeling secure that this is for real?? AS in, that she won't try to get him back b/f the adoption is complete? That would be my biggest fear!

It sounds like you have a very positive relationship with the birthmother, and she felt very strongly that your family was a very good fit for her child. That is wonderful that you had time together. No, you remember correctly.

I posted in February of last year about it. That's when we got the initial call from her, asking us to consider adopting him.

It's been quite a ride, but it's awesome to look back now. I'm so glad I chose to be at peace over the whole situation b/c it could have been very stressful had I tried to control it myself.

She loves him VERY much! She was a good mother to him and took great care of him. But, she neglected herself. And she needs to take care of herself first.

This was not an easy thing for her to do. She knew from the first time we talked that David belonged with us, but she wanted him for just a little while...to see what kind of little boy he was going to be. When it came down to it, she knew we could offer him a better life and that he would be loved, protected and nurtured.

She's a bigger person than I am, that's for certain!

We keep in touch. I love her very much. David will always know what a wonderful mother she was to him.

I don't have any fears that she will come back for him. Both birth parents want him here and have agreed to relinquish their rights. There really are no other options at this point...neither of them are capable of caring for a child. They love him enough to see this...and Scotty and I have so much love to give. We may not have the biggest home (we are cramped in just under 2000 sq ft), but it's a happy home.
