On the subject of ultrasounds

MyBrownEyedBoy wrote: How many did you have during your pregnancy? I know some doctors do one on most visits and others won't do more than one or two.

I had 2, but the second one was a 4D that was really more for me and the baby album than for any information.

PrairieMom replied: I had one. well, so far, and barring any complications, that is all I will get.

5littleladies replied: I think I had 4 or 5 with Lissa. I had the routine ones, one or two for reassurance and one to check for Lissa's size. With the other girls I only had one though.

kayla's mama replied: Oh wow I had alot. I thought that was normal. But with my complications I had one at almost every visit.

ashtonsmama replied: I want a TON! I loved seeing Ashton on U/S every time, and my doc did probably more than normal because of his small size...but I think everyone's different.

ilovemybaby replied: Unless the technician cannot see everything clearly we just get the one at about 18-20 weeks. It's free though. If I wanted more I could pay for it. It's $100-$120 though.

When I was pregnant with Abby I had two because I went overdue. So they had to check that baby had enough amniotic fluid left. And I was induced at 42 weeks.

This time I have had one so far and am having another next week because the tech could not see everything clearly. So it's two this time too. Unless I need another one later on...
Hopefully I won't be going 42 weeks this time.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I have had 3 so far with this baby...one to determine if I was really PG, a second because of a scare at 12 weeks and then my US to determine the gender. I won't be having another one unless something scary comes up.

Heather77 replied: Normally I get two, unless something arises where my doctor feels I should have another one.

My3LilMonkeys replied: With both girls I had 2 - one very early to determine the PG and 1 later on for the pics/gender determination.

EvesMom replied: I had 4. Had a problem with bleeding before 20 weeks. It turned out to be from work ohmy.gif . After the 20 week U/S I didn't get anymore dry.gif

1lilpeanut2love replied: I had several--one to determine if I was preggo, sex, 4D, 1 because I started bleeding and freaked, and several others because I developed very high blood pressure--I had to get nonstress tests twice a week at the hospital--part of this routine included getting an ultrasound to check fluid and the such!! smile.gif

jacobsmama replied: I had lots too wink.gif ( only because I worked there and we got a new 4D u/s machine) Also because I had low fluid so last 5 weeks had one each week.

We routinely do one on our patients at 16-20 weeks and then a scan to make sure baby is head down again at 36 weeks. Now if you have c/s planned or history of preterm problems or miscarriage then we do lots more. My Doc is the u/s queen!! haha emlaugh.gif

amymom replied: With my son I had NONE! He is 14.

With my dd I had lots, too many to count. We had one early on 9 weeks because the doctor couldn't hear the heart beat, (I had had a 14 week miscarriage less than 2 years before so it was a precation), the regular one at 20 weeks. Then one at 40 weeks because they wanted to check amniotic fluid levels. Then I had one every other day for a week. And then every day for another week. Until she was born at 42 weeks. I believe there was one at 16 weeks too but cannot remember.

luvmykids replied: I got spoiled with the twins, for the first few months I only got one a month but after bedrest I got one every 2-3 weeks! When I was pg with Macie they said they didn't even do them unless there seemed to be a problem, I thought it was a country bumpkin hospital type thing. I finally did con the doc into one though.

MamaJAM replied: With DD#1 I had one at about 18 weeks...that was supposed to be my only one -- but when I was 8 days overdue - they sent me for another to make sure she was ok.

With DD#2 I had a ton -- my doc did one at 10 weeks to confirm that there was only 1 baby in there (I got preg on fertility drugs). Then at 19 weeks I had a routine u/s that revealed too much amniotic fluid. After that - I was sent every 2-4 weeks for u/s to make sure DD was ok (and trying to figure out what was causing the insane amount of fluid...they never figured it out). I probably had 20+ u/s that pregnancy.

With DD#3 I also had a ton. The first one was at 17-18 weeks and should have been routine....but they discovered a different problem....too LITTLE amniotic fluid. They kept a very close eye on things after that -- every 2 weeks I had an u/s. We also watched as DD kepting flipping from breech to head-down even though the fluid got so low they couldn't imagine how she was able to move at all. The fluid became too low at 38 weeks and when she was found to be head-down they rushed me to the hospital for induction.

With DS#1 - I had a new doc. He does 3 routine u/s...one early on to confirm dates -- one around 17-19 weeks to check things -- one close to your EDD to check baby's position/etc. I had 2 extra -- one because I was measuring strangely and with my history of amniotic fluid problems - doc wanted things checked out (everything was fine) -- and one 2 days before I was induced to make sure DS was headdown (the doc wasn't able to determine position because DS was laying wierd).

With DS#2 I had only 2. I was still with the doc who routinely does 3....but, I forget why, we never did the 3rd one.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I had 3 with Andrew. One at the clinic at 8 weeks to help determine my due date and make sure there was only one baby, the regular 20 week one at the hospital, then another at the clinic at about 35 or 36 weeks to see how big the baby was and make sure there was enough fluid and stuff. happy.gif

I'm guessing it will be about the same with this one since I'm with the same doctor. wink.gif

Cece00 replied: Unless there are problems, my OB does 2-3 per pregnancy.

C&K*s Mommie replied: Two with Christian, 0 with Kellie.

BAC'sMom replied: With DS #1 I had about 3-4 ultrasounds. I had some blood work (triple test) come back high for Down’s syndrome. We refused to do an amniocentesis do to the risks of miscarriage; we had already lost one baby.

DD had about 9-10 ultrasounds, I was involved in a wreck when I PG with her. I had a lot of break through bleeding due to the seatbelt injury. It took 4 surgeries to set my broken up leg, so they watched her very closely.

DS #2 I had about 2-3 ultrasounds. Once again they were concerned about my risk for Down’s because of my age. Since we got a bad result with DS#1 we refused to do blood work for triple test with other PG’s. No sense in causing me more anxiety when there is no guarantee that the baby will be born with an abnormality.

They all turned out to be perfectly normal babies!

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: i had tons with Katy and Matt. With both their was one arround 8 weeks to date, one at 18 to look for everything. then w/ Katy we ahd to go back at 20 becasue they couldn't see all the heart stuff and then starting at 26 weeks I went in 2 times a week for NST's and BPP's so approxamately 22 more u/s's maybe more but???
with matt they found a large mass in my bladder during the 18 week so I started seeing a urologist who ordered a few u/s of everything so not necessarilly of him but we did get to look a few times and he also wanted a x-ray so we have a picture of his head in my pelvis smile.gif at about 20 weeks. I too did bi and then tri-weekly NST's and BPP's so 25+ more u/s's
this time I had one at 8 weeks to date, 1 at 13 for first trimester screening, a full work up ordered by the internist who was looking for liver or kidney problems (on me) at about 14 weeks, 1 last week at 19 weeks and will have another at 22 weeks. I ahve an anterior plascenta again so it is entirely possible i will end up in testing again but if I feel adequate movement I might be able to get away w/o it.

I guess the answer is a freaking lot rolling_smile.gif

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: I had 2 ultrasounds and 2 Echo's on Mackenzie's heart. The first ultrasound was routine, but the second one was for her size. The 2 echo's were because in the original ultrasound they found an abnormality in her right ventracal (sp?).

coasterqueen replied: I either had 1 or 2 with Kylie, can't remember. blush.gif With Megan I had too many to count but that was due to complications beyond my control. Otherwise I would have had 1 or 2 with her.
