It may be some time before we teach our girls these things, but it is good to have an idea of what to teach before we get to that point.
ashtonsmama replied: Thank you! Even though A is too young, I may print that out, it looks good!
C&K*s Mommie replied: A very important thing to teach, IMHO. Just in case.
BAC'sMom replied: TFS Nicole.
redchief replied: Great post Nicole! Now if we can just get every parent to look at it!
BAC'sMom replied:
Bump! Maybe this will help !
C&K*s Mommie replied: This is one more thing that I need to print out to add to the baby memories box for the girls, so that when the time is approaching to begin to entrust them to know how and when to dial for help, that I will have easy access to the information.
Also the poem Amanda shared on here is another, I want to print out.
mamasbigbaby replied: I'm saving it!!
Boo&BugsMom replied: Tanner is almost 4. I have talked to him and my preschoolers about 911. I don't know if he gets it yet, but at least a seed is planted until he does.
redchief replied: What a great idea!
CantWait replied: Thanks for that link Nicole, I've added it to my favourites so I can take a peak at it later.
zdk753 replied: Thanks for sharing that Nicole! I have been teaching my kids about 911, but it had some helpful tips I hadn't thought of. I would like to add something though. Make sure you teach your kids how to dial 911 on a cell phone. I don't know if all cell phones are the same (since I am probably the only person on earth who doesn't have one), but Zach tried to call 911 the day Kailynn got bit, but couldn't get it to work. He didn't know you had to hit another button to get the phone to dial. I just thought I would mention it since we found out my Mom's cell phone is the same way.
redplaydoh replied: Aaargh... I wish it was so easy here. You have to dial: 117 for police 118 for the fire department 144 for ambulance
I figure if anything ever happens I'll just dial one of those numbers and get someone here or it can be dispatched through them to the right department. It's too much to remember especially in an emergency! Then I hope to get someone who speaks English...
redchief replied: 9-1-1 Started as a local grass roots campaign here in the USA. Sounds like a great project to take on... All it would take is a web site and a press release to begin with.
redplaydoh replied:
That's actually a good idea... I'll have to look more into the history of how 911 developed. Right now, my project is to get a pedestrian crossing on our street.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: My kids know when to dial 9-1-1.
If our fire alarm goes off, and I don't "wake up" right away, take the phone (always with me, clipped on my waist) and dial 911 then press the big round button, and tell the person that answers that the alarm is on and mommy won't wake up.
They also know that if mommy falls and doesn't wake up, to take the phone, dial 911, press the big round button, and tel;l the person that answers that mommy fell and won't wake up.
We play the "what if" game a lot, while i cook or whatever... like: what if someone wants to give you a piece of gum? their answer is: No - only mommy or daddy can give me some gum.... and if I answer back: it's ok, it can be our secret, their answer will be: Secrets aren't nice, I'm telling my mommy.
mamasbigbaby replied: I sent one to my sister, who is pregnant and trying to teach her 5 year ol how to call 911.
