Olympics anyone

lisar wrote: Is anyone watching the Olympics. I am a junkie I have been staying up till 1 or 2 in the morning watching them. I love the swimming and both mens and womens gymnastics and I kinda like watching the girls volleyball. Anyone else watching.

I think we did good in. Michael Phelps is doing AWESOME!!
And tonight is the guys all around and tomorrow is the girls all around. Anyone think Shawn Johnson has a chance at gold her or Nastia

Danalana replied: I absolutely am glued to the Olympics! I love watching it every 4 years--always have. I was so upset last night when that girl screwed up the beam and THEN fell and THEN stepped out of bounds on the floor exercise. In fact, all 3 of them stepped out of bounds. Not one of the Chinese girls did that. Lisa, what do you think of the rumor that about half of the Chinese women's team is underage? i know at least 2 definitely don't look 16.
Anyway, I love it. I usually end up in tears (yes, I am that big a dork!) at some point. My faves are swimming, diving (all kinds), volleyball (regular AND beach), gymnastics, some of the track and field events, women's soccer...I'm sure there's more that I can't think of right now...

Danalana replied: I forgot softball! Did you know that this is the last year softball will be a sport in the olympics? I am very sad about that...these girls train all their lives for this. This is their career! They said it's because the US is so dominant, blah blah blah...well, the Chinese are dominant in diving but we're still gonna have that!

EDIT: to answer the question, I think Johnson and Liukin are great. Liukin blew me away on the uneven bars last night! I'd like to see them both medal.

msoulz replied: I am so bummed, I had a headache and missed all of last night's action. But we have been watching a lot, and I had to re-explain the whole Olympic concept to my son as I forgot he was only 5 the last time they were on!

It is a fun family event in our house.

And DH was a very good swimmer in HS so he is really enjoying the swimming and Michael Phelps.

I love to watch women's (or should we say girls') gymnastics and diving. And who knew there was such a thing as synchronized diving?? I guess I had forgotten about that or just never saw it before.

Danalana replied: Oh yeah, I love the synchronized diving! DH and I have been watching and he is blown away by it too. When the Chinese girls would dive, we would just be sitting there with our jaws on the floor laugh.gif Talk about awesome!

bawoodsmall replied: We are dvring it. Dh and I love all the aquatics events and womens gymnastics. The mens bore me a bit. The beach volleyball is awesome too.I felt so bad for Alicia Sacra...something when she fell off the beam. How heartbreaking for her...she just couldnt pull herself back together. I really cant imagine that much on my shoulders..as far as everyone is looking for you to bring home the gold. How stressful at 16. Ugg....I think I am glad I am not an Olympian. Too much stress...I am not all about that.

The chinese girls def look a lot younger but I am not sure if we are just used to what our teenage girls look like. They sure are a powerhouse of a team

Calimama replied:
I think they both have a pretty good shot as long as they keep the nerves at bay! I think Shawn more than Nastia. I was really disappointed when Alicia fell twice... they had a good chance at gold before those 2 misteps. sad.gif

lisar replied:
I totally believe that the short girl on the Chinese team is under 14. All they have to show to prove their age is a passport. Well when the Olympics are held in their home country how hard would it be to fake a passport. Seriously. I dont think she is 16 at all.

lisar replied:
That is so true. I truly believe that if Alicia wouldnt have fell off the balance beam they would have won gold. But the All around is tonight, and I wont get to watch it, I have to go to bed tonight.

Calimama replied:
She looks about 10-13. But then maybe it's just girls look younger in China.

PrairieMom replied: UGH! There are no words to describe how I feel about the Olympics. They can't get over fast enough for me. Seriously, how many times can you watch people swim back and forth across a pool? back and forth , back and forth, back and forth... how much longer before this thing is done?
and gymnastics... Its great the first few events, but jump flip, jump flip... Nope, not for me.
I detest regular sports, football, baseball, what ever when it is only one game per night, so one game after another is just way more than I can take. mad.gif
Sorry ladies, y'all enjoy it, I am going to play games online until this whole thing is done. wacko.gif

luvmykids replied: We are Olympic junkies too, and I cry every single time the US is on the gold medal stand.

stella6979 replied:
You are not alone!

lisar replied:
I dont cry but it does send a chill up my spine when they play the national anthem.

Danalana replied: I usually cry for anybody who wins, because I can only imagine how hard they have trained to get there...it moves me every time!

msoulz replied:
LOL, I think if the olympics were every year I would feel much the same. But once every 4 years the world comes together in peace and I find that concept just phenomenal. wub.gif

And the swimming to me is like basketball - The start is interesting (who takes the early lead and the pace is set) and the ending in interesting but in between, not so much. DH, being the former swimmer and currently a PT, can watch for technique, etc. but I just want to see who wins!

I am always amazed at what people can do with their bodies - that is why I find gymnastics so fascinating. They just make it look so easy.

But I can certainly see why it's not so for others. happy.gif

lisar replied:
The swimming I like to watch because my sister step-son Josh is a swimmer like that. He does all the different strokes and all that. And he is the quickest in the state and he is only 15. So he is really good and could possibly be there one day. We never know. He watches it cause he is fascinated with phelps and how quick he is.

My cousin Ashley is a swimmer like that, no where quick yet, but she trains 5 nights a week. She is only 12. She watches it and says man I am like triple that time. Its funny.

I get all excited in them watching them.
