Okay, here it is - new do and attempt at eyeliner
mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: So I got my hair highlighted and trimmed last weekend...and this was taken yesterday as my first attempt to do my new do myself! I don't think I did all that bad. The stylist did larger waves and more of a Farah Fawcett (sp?) look, but again, I don't think I did too bad. What do you think? Should I go shorter? Should I stick to straight hair? DH loves my hair dark dark, au natural. He would also like it if I didn't pluck my eyebrows or wear ANY makeup...but like I said, I feel I need a bit of a pick me up lately. Honest opinions?
And I tried putting a bit of brownish eyeshadow on my lids and under my eyes to highlight my green eyes (as recommended by Rocky, LeaAnn and Mel). Probably not enough (I was scared) , but I think it made them pop a bit more! Thanks for the tips last week ladies! I also added a little light shimmer on my upper lid, which you can't see in the picture and I have a bit of bronzer on. That's it. Oh and vaseline on my lips. SUGGESTIONS...PLEASE! As I was getting my hair done, I had the stylist try out some eyeshadows on me...I told her I wanted the smokey look and IMO, she got it all wrong. I don't think I got close either, but I think for daytime, this is natural looking, right?
You told me to post a pic, so as intimidating as that sounded, I got up the nerve and here it is! Be nice...............
1lilpeanut2love replied: Awwh you look SO cute! I love the hair and make-up! You did an awesome job!
luvmykids replied: You look GORGEOUS!!!! I think you could bump up the color and still look natural but you did a great job!
MyLuvBugs replied: WOW!! Hot Momma! You look amazing!!!
TANNER'S MOM replied: Oh I love the long layers in your hair.. it looks great and your eyes do too. I am glad you found something you were comfortable in doing. You know it doesn't take much for us to feel better about our selves and as a new momma you should take those small moments for yourself.. and feel good.
I love it!
gr33n3y3z replied: you look great
Kaitlin'smom replied: the makeup looks GREAT! good job. I also LOVE the hair I might go a bit shorter just for ease of styling but it looks great that wasy also, the cut is similar to mine just mine a is bit shorter, for me it still takes to long to style.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Awww thanks! I hope everyone knows I wasn't posting to get compliments...I really am clueless about makeup and I'm really curious if I need more...and more in what area? I typically wear more on my lips and I wear concealer sometimes to cover the dark spots, but I wasn't in the mood yesterday. I wanted to give you sorta a blank palette to see if anyone could give me some pointers. But you ALL are so nice!
Question, if you don't me asking...Sorry I didn't include it earlier. But I noticed by the end of the day, the eyeshadow that I used as liner was down at the top of my cheeks! How do I get it to say longer?
Kaitlin'smom replied: on the liner dunno I use liquid its the only thing I found that will stay all day for me. took me a while to get used to it but now I wont go back. Your lips could use a bit more color, just to show off that beautiful smile more.
luvmykids replied: Only since you asked I do think you look awesome but I think you could do a bronze or copper on your eyes and it would still fall into a very neutral, natural wearable look. I agree that your lips could handle a little more color too, Burt's Bees makes very sheer lipsticks I love and I have one I could totally see on you.
For the eyeliner, I usually go over it with a shadow that is similar in color to help it last longer.
BUT you look fabulous as is
Boys r us replied: I think you did a great job Rae! you look beautiful! Seriously!
momof2girls replied: I think you look great!
A&A'smommy replied: Definitly a great look for you and the eyeshadow definitly brought out your eyes!!
Also here is a website that tells you how to do the smokey eyeshadow look http://www.shalinivadhera.com/html/tips_and_trends/beauty_secrets/how_to_get_smokey_eyes/ you have to scroll down a little bit
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Rae, I love it. You look very fresh faced and young. Never bad for someone over 27 to look and feel young. I use an eyeliner pencil so it doesn't run, but some people suggest dusting a translucent powder over shadow to prevent it from running or creasing. I guess it kind of sets it. Anyhow, I love the new hair, some days I miss my longer hair, but for me, getting up at 5 am to work, I have to have a shower and comb kind of style. I haven't used my blow dryer more than 5 or 6 times since March. LOL. Kind of lazy, I suppose.
moped replied: Gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!
CantWait replied: I think you look HOTT!!!!!!! Seriously if you didn't want to wear anymore makeup it wouldn't matter, you're gorgeous, if you did though, a little more wouldn't hurt.
Love the hair.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Rae - GORGEOUS! I think you did an amazing job!!!!!!
As for the eye liner - Mary Kay makes a good product for the eyes, called Instant Action eye Cream - not only does it help for wrinkles (not that I think you have wrinkles...) but it helps the eyeliner stay SET.
Also, a dab of vaseline won't hurt.
Generally when I use eyeliner, I rub some dark eye shadow powder over the line... makes it look more "blended" and less "liquid line" like... not that yours is looking that way - I just find it stays on longer.
I really agree that it made your eyes pop... I hadn't realized your eyes were green before.
It will be an easy switch for daytime/evening for that look... a little darker on the eyes, and maybe some gloss just dabbed in the center of your lower lip...
Great job!
Boo&BugsMom replied: Love the hair!!! What did you use on it? A curling iron to get the waves? I've always wanted to get my hair to look like that!
About the eyeliner, I use Revlon Colorstay. It's the only liner I have used that doesn't smudge or run. I will sometimes use shadow over it to give it more color but then I have to make sure I don't use too much or it will run.
Again...LOVE the hair. And you're so beautiful you don't need makeup if you ask me!
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I add a little mousse while my hair is wet...it has a conditioner in it so it helps keep the frizz down and makes it silky. It's from Neutrogena in the orange bottle. I first blow dry my hair all over so it's not too wet, then clip the top half up on top of my head. I blowdry the bottom with a flat brush so that it it's smooth (I curl under a bit at the end, not up). Then I take a 1" round brush and take small parts of the hair out of the clip and blowdry by curling away from the face. Remember Farah Fawcett's winged look? Well you take the round brush and curl away from the face so that it creates a curl towards the back of the head, not forward. And it really helps to clip all the hair on top and take down pieces of hair and dry one at a time. I then add Aveda guck (I don't know what's it's called, but it's a styling product that looks like paste to me) to create the seperate tassled look. Just rub in the palm of your hand and work your fingers through your hair to seperate pieces. And then spritz with a little hairspray. It sounds like a lot of work, but it really isn't. Just make sure to use some product while it's wet and seperate the pieces when using the round brush.
Thanks for all the compliments everyone! I'm going to work on my eyes some more and I need to add more color to my lips!
