Okay Girls... - What pain is worse than labor/delivery?
GavinsMommy wrote: Just wondering your thoughts on this. And what would you describe it as? Sharp pains? Menstrual pains? I have read where some women think paper cuts are worse than labor simply because it is a diff type of pain. Lol. So what about you!
kit_kats_mom replied: I honestly think that a broken toe is worse.
Labor, for me, was a lot like the discomfort I feel when I have diarreah. That awful crampy, somewhat nauseaus feeling that you get when you are pretty sick...that's pretty close to what it was like. Not unberable by any means and frankly, it comes in waves so you get breaks between the worst of it.
Boys r us replied: Ohhh Labor pains are much worse than delivery! Once you get to the delivery part..you're so elated and happy that it's finally almost over and to be able to push, I don't think you would notice even if it hurt 500 times worse..it still seems to hurt less!
My labor pains, not to scare you..were beyond HORRIBLE! But it was all worth it in the end!
gr33n3y3z replied: Yikes lets see if I can do this I would say its like hitting your baby toe on the edge of the bed frame its there and it hurts like h*ll but gone in 5 min. LOL
coasterqueen replied: Well....I think having a c-section was by far the worst pain I have felt so far. I hope and pray I never have to do that again!
jcc64 replied: The 1st time I described it as feeling like someone was wringing out my uterus like a wet towel. The 2nd time I described it as feeling like I had to sh*t out a watermelon. The 3rd time I got an epidural
Really, it's like seriously bad period cramps and the feeling you get when you have diarrea really bad. You'll get through it- we all did!
coasterqueen replied: Jeanne I like your descriptions!
jolene555 replied: well, i had pitocin aided labor, so it was the most awful pain i have ever felt. my description: the worst mensral cramps you've ever had, all crammed into 1 horrible 30 second time span, and that feeling when your foot falls asleep and is "waking up" only in your uterus. makes you excited, dosen't it? i loved my epidural.
i can honestly say that i have never had greater pain in my life. then again, i think that it seems so much worse because it isn't constant. you feel so wonderful for 3 minutes and then "oh sh**, here it comes again!", then back to wonderful. if other pain in lifee were like that it would probubly suck just as much.
DansMom replied: For me, the thing that makes it worse than any other kind of pain is that it keeps coming back relentlessly, in increasingly intense waves, with less and less relief as labor progresses. Towards the height of my labor, I would bless the gods when a contraction subsided, and curse them with a dread/panic feeling as the contraction began again. I pushed for almost three hours---so for me delivery was just more of the same, it didn't feel any better. I have never shouted and groaned with any other pain. I did go all natural though---I'm sure it's a lot easier with pain relief measures in place.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I've never felt a labor pain. The epidural was there...I used it.
mama3x replied: I have not yet felt a pain worse than the actual delivery point with DS (induced) and the pain afterwards down there (I had an episiotomy)...I am extra sensitive there so using the bathroom was h**l for 4 weeks and my episiotomy site hurt for a year. Plus I had the epidural done too so I ended up with hemorrhoids because I was pushing so hard but couldn't feel it. (sorry if TMI)
With DD it was an emer c-sect and that for me was easier to tolerate. Using the bathroom without pain and being able to sit down was a big deal. I am the minority, preferring the c-sect healing route.
jolene555 replied: oh, i forgot about the aftermath! the hemmeriods (sp?) were so painful, and seemed to last FOREVER. it may be tmi, but i'd rather take labor any day than be crying on the crapper.
ediep replied: I have never in my life felt anything worse than labor pains.
I had epidural, it slowed labor, had pitocin, couldn't even focus to push because i was in so much pain, had another epi....pushed for 4 hours, was vaccuum assisted. I was also vomiting the enitre time (well, like 4 or 5 times thoughout the 12 hours)
MommyToAshley replied: LOL! You crack me up!
I have to agree with Edie, there is nothing worse then labor pains. But, there's also nothing else that gives you anything as rewarding at the end.
Jamison'smama replied: I'm also there with Edie---nothing worse---I can only describe it as something like a sledgehammer to my low low back combined with cramping--but the back pain was unbearable--throw myself out the window unbearable--that was when the epidural stopped working---the best feeling in the world was the second epidural--everying works out though and I'm willing to do it again so it must be worth it.
mama3x replied: Oh gosh I forgot to mention that DS was delivered with forceps because he was pretty much stuck...THAT is HORRENDOUS!!!!! I couldn't even open my eyes for about half an hour to see my son. I hate to say it but the pain was so bad I couldn't care about anything else.
jem0622 replied: I can only sum it up to say that when you are truly in labor...you cannot talk when you are having a contraction. It isn't just tightening but pain too. And you really cannot talk. You have to stop and concentrate and breathe your way through the contraction.
My last delivery was natural and I actually did well because I walked up until I just couldn't walk anymore. My contrax were so close together and I could take any more 'laps' around the L&D floor. LOL. Then I sat on the bed and they came one on top of the other. It was such a relieving feeling when my water broke because I knew it was 'show time' and could focus on pushing instead of the contrax. It went very fast!
The worst thing ever is too have too much of the epidural left in your system and you can't push worth a darn. Very frustrating!
MomToMany replied: I agree that there's nothing worse than labor pains. A paper cut?? Oh, c'mon, get real!
The worst part of labor for me is that last half-hour in the transition phase (with no pain relief) . The contractions are right on t op of each other, and it's really hard to deal with the pain. I just huffed & puffed through it til I couldn't hold back the pushes anymore. Pushing to me was a relief; I could finally do something that helped get my attention away from the contractions.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: TOE SURGERY! OMG that is awful! I had to have an ingrown toenail removed from both of my big toes. The freezing was awful and then when the freezing wore off the pain was unbearable. I found this to be worse than labour!
Edited to say that I found labour pains to be just a little worse than menstral cramps.
TANNER'S MOM replied: I have had 3 babies and I am telling you that KIDNEY STONES, was 10 times worse than labor. I cried and cried with kidney stones and begged someone to kill me. My husband was scared..
amynicole21 replied: Your experience sounds a bit like mine...
Induced, climbing the walls with pain like a frantic animal - I had no control over myself. Then got the epi which worked for several blissful minutes then stopped working and had to get a booster. After that, I couldn't feel a thing, but also couldn't push correctly. Pushed for 2 grueling hours (they wouldn't use a vacuum ) until she finally came out. Also, the smell of orange juice brings it all back because that was what I was puking up the whole time I don't know what it felt like to actually deliver, but the pain of contractions is something I won't ever forget.
