Ok people, I need hand holding here...

indywndy_04 wrote: Sorry to be a wus...but I am going to spill my beans. I am getting REALLY scared about having a c-section! I have had all my other kids natural, no epidural or anything. But since my pelvis broke 2 of their collar bones, I have to have a c-section because this baby is a biggen'. But, I must say...I am starting to flip out a little. I dream about the knive cutting my stomach, the pain afterwards...not being able to stand up, go to the bathroom right away, the cathedure...oh man, someone stop me.

I have a history of anxiety and this is not helping me whatso ever! Someone lend me a hand here.... wub.gif

moped replied: I was totally freaked to have an emergency C - but I made it through and you will too - don't worry........you will be fine - jsut wait and see.

They will take great care of you!!!!!!

indywndy_04 replied:
Should I put on my iPod so I don't hear what they are saying...like...knife please...lol Oh man...I feel so helpless laying there. It is like having surgery awake! Well, duh...I guess you are, but you know what I mean!

PrairieMom replied: thumb.gif Okay, not thumbs up, but its the closest thing to an out stretched hand we got. wink.gif you are going to be fine.
I have never had one, so I can't speak from experience, but tons and tons of people have. I have actually heard that the Post partum bleeding was better afterwards than having a "natural " birth. If you are breaking their collar bones than you mush have incredibly painful childbirths, a c-section has GOT to be better. (and easier on your baby too) hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

indywndy_04 replied:
Well, that made me feel better. I guess you are right...if I can break their collar bones and keep on pushing through it (poor babies) then a c-section might be a piece of cake....

I do have a high pain tollerance, probably greater then most so I am told (even got sewed up from an epsiodomy with out pain reliever) ouch...so I guess if I can do all that, then I can do this. Man, I am just soo nervous!!

Can they give me something to calm my nerves maybe?

PrairieMom replied:
I'm sure. It's gotta be pretty common for mom's in that situation to be freaking out. I know I would be. I hear the whole thing goes super fast tho.

Danalana replied: Wendy, I know you will be ok! If all those other women I have seen on TV can do it, I know you can biggrin.gif I'll come hold your hand if you want...

moped replied:
No silly....LOL

It was kind of funny when I had mine - there are LOTS of dr's in the OR, for you and for the baby when he comes out, but they were having normal morning coffee conversation - the surgeon was talking about how her boyfreind is a jerk and she needs to dump him and find soemone who likes to go to the mountains hiking - then the baby dr was reading the paper waiting for Jack.......the anasteologist (sp) is really great, talking to you and holding your hand - they really are great.

Then they start counting the swabs they put in and take out - 1, 1 - 2, 2 all the way up to like 40

~Roo'sMama~ replied: hug.gif You'll be ok. I've never had a c-section either so I don't know what it's like, but my sister had a planned c-section a little over two years ago and I remember that she was up and walking around really soon afterwords. The epi really doesn't take long to wear off - I know from my sister's experience and because I had an epidural when I had Andrew. Looking at the positive side, after her c-section my sister was done with her postpartum bleeding by the end of the first day. happy.gif

indywndy_04 replied:
WHAT!! SWABS!! OMG...

moped replied: OH WAIT......then when they are ready to pull the baby out - THAT IS WIERD.....it is like a tidal ave across your body......very strange feeling so be prepared for that. Tammy (sister) warned me about that and it was odd.................

TIDAL WAVE I tell ya

moped replied:
YOu won't feel any pain at all - just that tidal wave......

moped replied:
Honey, this is major surgery - they put things in your belly to stop bleeding etc.........

moped replied:
I bled for a long time - 2 weeks.........FYI

indywndy_04 replied:
Ok, great...a tidal wave....maybe we shouldn't talk about it after all. LOL wub.gif

moped replied: I want you to be prepared....

My cousin is having one as we speak - should have a new baby this afternoon

She is a member here - watingfor#3

Calimama replied: You're going to do GREAT! It's normal before any kind of birth to be scared. I was terrified with Bella. Just know the doctor's are going to take great care of you, and soon you will have your gorgeous little baby. wub.gif

indywndy_04 replied:
That is what I am trying to focus on, I am literally so scared of the surgery though that I am having a hard time being excited to see the baby! UGH!! I will have to get this straight in my head so I don't loose it.

I am excited to see him, but that surgery just really scares me.

moped replied: IT'S A BREEZE......................

YOU WILL BE GREAT!!!!!

TRUST ME

lisar replied: I had 2 of them and you will be just fine. It is major surgery but you have to think these doctors do it all the time, you will be fine. Quit stressing.

lovemy2 replied: Having had two c-sections, one unplanned, one planned - I was quite afraid of the planned one - surgery while your awake, etc. the first wasn't so bad and it happened so fast and it was so important to get Olivia out that I never thought too much about being afraid BUT

In the end all my fretting was for nothing - the planned one was MUCH easier than the unplanned - I wasn't so far behind the eight ball as I was the first time after having labored for 2 1/2 days, etc. I recovered quickly and the MDs, nurses, peds, etc. talked me through every single thing - it honestly wasn't too bad - yes the recovery is longer but it is as bad as you make it - rest that first day then GET up and GET moving - it made a huge difference for me.....

Hang in there - it will be ok and keep your eye on the prize baby.gif baby.gif

tammyhopkins replied: I had a scheduled C Section because my little man decided he wasnted to be breach.

I was scared to death about it too. That is normal. But honestly the worst part when i think back is putting hte cathadar in (student nurse) not a good idea lol. And then when you are in the OR and they tell you to sit very still and don't move when they give you the epidural. Whatever sit still LOL.

Anyway when it started i told the doctor that i coudl feel him cutting and he said oh really well i am on the last layer. I just said that because i was scared i might rolling_smile.gif . then the TIDAL WAVE weird thing.

When it is over it actually doesn't seem bad. You will be up and walking 6 hours after and bathroom the next day All Good.

indywndy_04 replied: Ok....I am starting to feel somewhat better....'keep my eyes on the prize' I can do this!! smile.gif

I am excited I dont have to push (so lazy of me) but just so scared at the same time, but I can do this!!!!

Thanks girls for all the kind words of encouragment!!!

hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

Dana - I might need you to be there to hold my hand though still! smile.gif

boyohboyohboy replied: OH , here are two more hands to send your way! I can totally imagine what you are feeling. but I think you just have to keep it out of your mind as much as possible till the day arrives, or it might drive you nuts. I have never had one, but a friend did twice, and she said as she was walking in to get it done, she begged her husband to take her to breakfast instead....but she said it was easy and fine in the OR and then also stated she felt the "tidal wave" she described it as a pulling feeling, but not pain..and it was over, and then she said she got kinda shaky after it was over could be adrenaline or just the temp of the room and all the meds...but she was fine. and afterwards recovered really fast.

you will be fine...just post losts of stuff to talk about until the final day, and keep your mind off it... hug.gif

DillsMommy replied: I would hold your hand through it too, if you think they will let all of us in the room with you. rolling_smile.gif Don't worry so much, I bet you'll do just fine. You'll get through and think "that wasn't so bad after all!" hug.gif It'll all be worth it in the end!

indywndy_04 replied:
Thanks!!! The whole Tidel Wave thing is freaking me out now, but I think I will be ok. I will have to start talking with you guys about different stuff....if anyone see's me talking about the c-section, just guide me back to something else. smile.gif

baby.gif - ohhh baby Jake, I love you but don't hurt mommy! wub.gif

moped replied: The tidal wave is COOL

Jackie012007 replied: I had an emergency c-section and I am the world's biggest baby when it comes to pain - I went into labor at 22 weeks and I was like KILLLLLL ME at every little twinge!! Honestly, it's so not that bad. The worst part for me was them putting the needle in my back, I'm so short waisted and I was so humongously pregnant, that I couldn't roll my back enough and it took him a few jabs to get it, then WHOOOOOOSH everyhting goes numb. And like another poster said, they were having freakin coffee talk over me while they were getting Carly out - mind you this is an EMERGENCY c-section. I thought it would be like on ER where they are all intense and sweaty - NOPE! They were talking about some dinner party my doctor threw the weekend before!

Honestly, I was so doped up I didn't even really know what was going on until I heard her cry. I think the recovery is actually worse than the precedure - my staples started popping out early and it hurts to move very much the first week or so. I felt great in the hospital but when I got home I wanted to die that first night - just take your time and don't push yourself too hard. You will do great! I even have some gory c-section pictures if you want me to share them with you!!! rolling_smile.gif If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

GOOD LUCK!

CantWait replied: hug.gif hug.gif I'd be scared to so I guess it's just natural. You don't know what to expect.

indywndy_04 replied:
I kind of wish I didn't read this.

No disrespect of course, but I am just really scared. I like to hear the good with the bad, but when I hear the bad it brings up all new questions and fears in my head.

I will get through it, tons of people have them... (well, that is what I keep telling myself anyway) smile.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: You will do just fine wink.gif

StephanieM replied: I've had 3 c-sections, none naturally though so I have nothing to compare it to. sad.gif But I would say that there are going to be pros and cons to each way, kwim? You'll get through it and there are millions of women that have had c-sections. Is your hubby going in there with you? Through all of mine, my hubby just talked to me and tried to keep me calm. It also helped when I asked the anesthesiologist (sp?) about everything that I was feeling. It was very reassuring when she explained to me that what I was feeling was normal and why I was feeling it. I would definitely suggest that if you start to panic just ask questions....It will help sooo much. With my first 2, I was freaking out and nobody was there to tell me what was going on, they ended up putting me to sleep. The anesthesiologist with my 3rd c-section was very helpful and reassuring. I'm telling you it helped a lot. The first 2, I wasn't back in my room for 4-6 hours, the 3rd I was back in my room an hour later. It made a world of difference to have someone there and answering my questions and knowing that I could ask why I was feeling what I was feeling. I helped me from panicing. Good luck, you'll do great.

Our Lil' Family replied: Jen has given you great advice. It really isn't that bad, just relax! For me the worst part was the epi, but it was my first and even having an epi without the c-section would have had me scared, I was scared of it before I got pg! Everything will happen so fast....really, the baby is out so quickly, what takes the longest is stitching you up, and while they are doing that you are oohhing and aahhing over the baby and watching them clean him up and weigh him and all. It'll all be over before you know it! You'll do great!

A&A'smommy replied: I was knocked out during my c-section because my epi wore off during labor so I was in a lot of pain and kinda panicking not because I was have a c-section but because of the pain... anyway afterwards I was drowsy but that was just because I had to be put to sleep... really don't push yourself, take your time to recover... make sure you have someone at home to baby you and ENJOY it tongue.gif its not that bad and I only bled for 2wks thumb.gif
