Ok ladies..question for us all - from Brianne's post
TANNER'S MOM wrote: How many of you have ever mowed the lawn or used the weedeater?
I was shocked that already alot of you said Never!
I have always mowed and really actually enjoy it. I like being outside and I have alot to mow. I don't like weedeating near as much and I usually let the boys do that. Now that the boys are older, I mow the hilly stuff and get them a good perimeter going, then I sit on the porch and watch them while I read a book! DH does mow some too. We usually take turns. Weather permitting he mows, if it's better weather in the evening then I mow.
Another question? Push mower or rider?
My3LilMonkeys replied: I've mowed lawns many times, but never run the weedeater. I wasn't allowed when I was a kid, and DH does it now because we use his stepdad's weedeater and he's VERY particular about his equipment so I stay out of the way.
I prefer a rider cause I'm lazy, but I can do either.
skinkybaby replied: I've been mowing since I was 10ish. I LOVE weedeating. It gets out any built up frustration
stella6979 replied: I can honestly say I have never mowed a lawn. As a kid, my Dad wouldn't let me (even though I wanted too) and since living with Jeff he won't let me either.
TANNER'S MOM replied: I think I have done something wrong! My husband lets me mow all I want I think he doesn't worry about my safety????? I am going to question him on this and ask him why I get to mow when so many of your husband's don't let you b/c it's not safe! lolololol I think I am getting the short end of the stick here..lol (even though I secrectly think it's relaxing, I won't tell him)
Oh man, I bet you don't have to buck hay either! So, not fair!
Boys r us replied: I've never mowed! We have one of those big commercial lawnmowers with the handles that steer..I drove it once b/c when we first got it I thought it was cool b/c I had never seen a mower that went that fast..but honestly..it's too complicated to steer etc lol..plus Rick is so anal about the lines going the right way in the yard. We have someone that mows it for us every week b/c Rick is so busy.
luvmykids replied: When we lived in Taos we had a groom that did all that....I mean everything. Then we moved back to Alb. and had a lawn service, now we don't have much grass so a horse does the job fine. We do have a riding mower though, in case we have grass pop up somewhere
moped replied: Growing up that was my job and I did both grandparents places as well.......Tom is really anal about the grass so that has always been his job.......so not in 7 years or so
Brias3 replied: We have landscapers for cutting the grass and edging, etc., but only because Bruce is gone so much. I refuse to cut the lawn myself- we have way too much. Even a riding lawn mower would just not work for me Plus, Bruce is way too anal about the way the lawn looks.
In my defense though, I do take care of all the weed/garden/maintenance besides the actual cutting. I LOVE gardening, just hate landscaping!
blondemom replied: I have horrible allergies so I have never had to mow the grass. When I was growing up my dad did it, then when I married Dylan's dad he did it after we divorced my dad would come do it, then when I met my now other ex husband Derricks dad he did it, now I live in an apartment.
gr33n3y3z replied: I use to mow the lawn all the time as a kid push mower and ride we had 3 1/2 acres to mow lol
lovemy2 replied: Just mowed the lawn last nite - push mower too - but weedwacking - NOPE - that thing scares me
mckayleesmom replied: I do both....I actually find it relaxing...if its not too hot.
I honestly never mowed till I was about 8 months pregnant with Russell and decided to give it a whirl...I had an older brother..so that was his job growing up and I raked.
mom21kid2dogs replied: I love mowing the lawn! I wasn't allowed as a child (I have 4 brothers) but couldn't wait to mow my own yard when I rented my first house! Unfortunately, I married a man who is very OCD about his yard so he mows it. I mow up at the Lake, though. Always push mower. No clue how to ever start a riding mower.
sparkys2boys replied: HEck, around here I do what ever needs to get done..lol. We don't pick and chose what we do. If dh see that laundry needs to be done he does it, if I am home and the grass needs to be cut.. then off I go. And yes I push mower
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I probably mowed about 65% of the time. Even if dh was home it was like pulling teeth to get him to do it so I would offer to edge while he mowed....I would be done edging and half way through mowing when he would mosey out and ask why I was doing "his job" Now we are in an apartment and have about 20 sq.ft. of grass in front...luckily the gardeners come TWICE A FREAKING WEEK to mow...almost always right when I put Johnny yo sleep and it is the loudest freaking mower I have ever heard.
grapfruit replied: I don't typically have to mow anymore. Although every now and then when Tim's in a hurry he'll have me mow while he trims (weed eats). I HATE the weed eater b/c the way it makes my arms feel.
As for hay, yes I've done it and HATED it! Actually I got stuck in the barn stacking after my one and only time baling. My eyes swelled shut and I was on the couch sick for 3 days after. My mom wouldn't even let me drive the tractor after that.
lisar replied: I do it all the time. I have used the weedeater but dont care for it so DH does that most of the time. But I do have my own Lawnmower that he doesnt use. Its one of those Stand-behind's. I normally mow the front of the property while he is weed eating along the fences.
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: I have done it a few times, but DH does it mostly.
PrairieMom replied: For the past 5 years i have been the one to take care of all our homes needs, including all the yard work, and small repairs. Since DH works more than full time, and I only go to my job part time. I even built all the retaining walls in our yard, and shoveled all the dirt and rock. thats right. I'm a brute. LOL Our mower is a push mower too, but our yard is really to small for a riding mower.
coasterqueen replied: I actually love mowing the yard. I don't mind it as much when it's 90 but I'll do it. I find it very relaxing. It's the only time I get 3+ hours of peace and quiet to think, listen to music and just relax ALL BY MYSELF. Even with my severe allergies I would do it because I enjoy it. Ryan would mow every time if I let him, but I usually ask to mow. I do not like weedeating, though, and honestly haven't tried to learn. Ryan wanted to teach me but I said that's one thing I'll let a man do.
When Ryan was in LA we had someone mow because his work was paying for it and I had enough to deal with 24/7 with two small kids.
I think it's a semi-trade for Ryan doing the cooking. Although mowing doesn't happen all year. I'd much rather mow than cook.
My2Beauties replied: I have never mowed the lawn in my life, I have never touched a weedeater in my life. My dad always mowed the yard as a kid, DH mows the yard now about 1-2 times a week, he's home more than I am, but even if he wasn't, I ain't touching that thing. I'd be afraid I'd royally screw something up.
Danalana replied: I actually love doing BOTH. They're both so relaxing to me, but DH has only "let" me mow a couple of times. He does all the weedeating, too. I actually think I would like mowing/weedeating as a job.
holley79 replied: Mowed (push and rider) lawns and fields. Used a weed eater and edged plenty of times.
Boo&BugsMom replied: I can count on one hand how many times I mowed the lawn growing up. My dad was really picky, plus he had my brother to do it. Since my teenage years, never have I even touched a mower or weedeater. I have never cut our grass and I don't plan to. We have both (Troy and I) more or less fallen into our own responsiblities. There are some things that I always do, and there are some things Troy always does, like mow the lawn. I do, however, do most of the de-weeding and planting stuff.
We have a gas powered push mower. We live on less than half an acre so no need for a riding mower.
coasterqueen replied: I didn't see your second question, Mel.
We have both. The rider is obviously for the majority of our acreage. We have 3.5 acres and we mow about 2 of that - the other is wooded down to the river. We push mow (not self-propelled, either) in the back lot behind the house where our garden beds are and on the left side lot where we have small pine trees growing. Then DH weed eats the rest.
I did a lot of push mowing and riding in my younger years, as well.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I used to mow for my dad. Family chore. And I've done it a couple times with DH, but he prefers to handle the outside, I do the inside. It's a win win! Oh, and we have a gas pusher.
Our Lil' Family replied: I never cut grass growing up, I couldn't even be outside when it was cut because of my allergies. Now that I'm older they are a little better so I can and I do cut sometimes for Tim so that he doesn't have to, but it's not often. We have 1/3 acre and a push mower, NOT self propelled, I think DH is against anything that makes it easier. When we move we'll have even less grass to mow, maybe I'll be a little more willing to help then.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: My siblings and I all did the mowing growing up, although my parents did it some of the time. It felt like I did it more than anyone else did but I don't know for sure if that's true. We had a riding lawn mower. I haven't mowed since I moved away from home almost 10 years ago - we have a push mower and I'm afraid to try it since I've only used riders. I keep wanting to try but I need to have Dh show me how to start it. I've never used a weed eater either - my dad always did that and now Dh does it... or did it - we don't have a weed eater right now.
HuskerMom replied: Dh does the mowing usually. My dad did it when I was growing up.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I started mowing my parents lawn when my brothers moved out. They live on a golf course and several of my guy friends golfed. I was just trying to get their attention. It worked.
I also mowed our lawn at our first house a couple of times when Scotty was living in Dallas (before Maddie and I joined him.) My dad mowed it the rest of the time. We had 1/2 an acre then that was mowed using a push mower.
I don't mow at all now, but I trim the bushes and clean out flower beds, etc.
I've never been allowed to use a weedeater.
