But actually Tom likes VA!! he was just here doing as movie about 6 months ago..he was always going in the dairy queen..like everyday for a blizzard. Actually about 6 years ago, he and Nicole had bought a home in Charlotteville,VA near UVA and enrolled their kids in a school there. So he loves it here!

Va seems like the perfect state- weather wise. Do you agree? And if we're looking for a nice beachy part of Va for a vacation this summer that isn't too tacky and built up, got any recommendations?
And Tom, while not my favorite actor, is apparently a very nice, down to earth guy. Hope you run into him.

4 perfect, beautiful, distinct seasons..mountains, beaches...all of it!
As for the beach...don't do Virginia beach..it is tacky and kind of old and run down too...we don't even go there, unless we only have a weekend for a quick get away.
I know it may be further, but I REALLY REALLY reccommend Ocracoke Island on the Outer Banks of NC! If you're in northern Va it actually woudln't be too far!
There are wild ponies that run on the beach and it's pretty much just wide open beaches..barely populated, you have to take a ferry to get there!!!! It's PERFECT!
jcc64 replied: Nichole- I was actually in the Outer Banks for a week last summer (Corolla)- needed a 4X4 to get to the house. It was spectacular. We had a family reunion in a big fat house right on the beach- the pool, the hot tub, the whole nine yards. The wild ponies were there too. The beaches were amazing. But my mom was footing the bill b/c it was my dad's last summer and she wanted the whole family together for him one last time. The houses there are all sort of over the top fantasy vacation homes (some even had elevators!) We're going with our not so wealthy friends this time, looking for something a little less extravagant but still unspoiled. Does this sound like Ocracoke Island?

Look, I did a search on properties for 7 nights and a price range of $800 or under (which is about what you would pay for a hotel for 7 nights) and I got like 18 listings on the island for beach houses!
