Oh my.

Danalana wrote: Now, I love cold weather...that's no secret. But, I also live in Alabama...except for living in Missouri for 3 years, I have no real concept of what cold is.
HOWEVER, this weekend is going to be U-G-L-Y. Sunday morning is supposed to be 7 degrees! Below 0 with wind chill. I know that's par for the course for some of you during winter, but you have to understand that people don't know how to live like that here. It's supposed to snow (I'll belive THAT when I see it!), and there is talk about possible power outages because of freezing power lines. Ican't imagine how devastating that would be for shut-ins. Because our winters are usually not WAY cold, not a lot of people have generators or back-up sources of heat. We are all electric and have no gas heaters...no generator. We would go to my BIL's house, which is 7 minutes away...they have a gas fireplace and another gas heater.
Anyway, just to let you know that we are actually in a winter storm warning kind of thing down here...CRAZY! I want the snow and cold, but not power outages. The sun is shining and it looks warm outside, but it's just above freezing right now ohmy.gif

moped replied: Yeah it has been some strange weather for some of you. For this canadian it is a normal cold winter but we are soooo climatized (sp) to it. I am sure it is hard for southern people......so dress warm and bake cookies - thats what I do! Or go shopping at the mall! tongue.gif

Last night was -27F here.....just so you know how cold it is here, we are arming up to a balmy 4 F tomorrow! thumb.gif

my2monkeyboys replied: I feel ya! It's a bit colder than normal for us here, too, this year. We have a small chance of snow Thursday night, but no expected accumulation, so what fun is that!?! lol

Danalana replied: Oh, the only accumulation we ever get (on the rare occasion that it snows) is usually in our yards. The roads are usually free of snow, but might be icey. The snow in our yards melts by the end of the day usually. If we do get snow on Thursday night, it won't melt for a while, since it won't get above freezing for the rest of the week/weekend.

PrairieMom replied: make soup, bake bread, put on another pair of socks. At least you know this will pass, I won't see anything above 40 until at least april.

Swood75 replied: It is supposed to be in the mid 30's here the next few days with a 60% chance of snow tomorrow night and a low of 23...They are saying 1/2" or less (which means no school huh.gif )I LOVE snow but would prefer it more when the kids are already out of school.. blush.gif

PrairieMom replied:
1/2 inch means no school? rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif We got 5 inches today and they never even considered canceling school.

Swood75 replied: LMBO..Yep,if they even see a flake fall from the sky and stick to the ground they are calling off school.. rolleyes.gif

ETA:If we got 5" the kids would be out for a few days permitting it stayed cold enough not to melt it in a day or 2..Even then they would probably be on about a 2 hr delay..LOL :shakeshead:

BabyOwen427 replied: I would love to get any amount of snow. The public schools in Oklahoma City have canceled classes for the next two days for the 'expected cold weather'. The radio personalities are making jokes and laughing at the school superentendant. emlaugh.gif

A&A'smommy replied: yeah we are NOT use to this... I mean really the ice that has been hanging out on our roads is weird and slightly scary. And OMG the only thing I find REALLY funny about this is that our gas stations are PACKED which I don't really understand... where are these people going??? rolleyes.gif

Swood75 replied:
LOL about the gast stations..Here A LOT of people go to the grocery store and get milk and bread which I haven't figured out yet.. rolleyes.gif

luvmykids replied: We get true cold snaps here but not what we're in for the next few days....last winter I called a heating repairman because I was convinced something was wrong, I just couldn't get the house warm. After he came and looked and charged me $75 laugh.gif he nicely told me houses/heating systems here just aren't made for that kind of cold rolleyes.gif

msoulz replied: Welcome to Michigan Dana! tongue.gif rolling_smile.gif

Danalana replied: All the schoold and a lot of businesses are closed today. We have a lot of people getting gas, too...maybe it's in case they lose power and have no other way to stay warm...that's doubtful, though.
Oh well....
ROLL TIDE!!!!! biggrin.gif

PrairieMom replied: We called off school for the first time in at least 2 years, it is -35 wind chill, and 5 inches of snow, with blowing. They basically closed down South Dakota.
Should be interesting to see what we do with all this snow when the wind stops, we already had 18 inches, it is drifted over my fence, and piled so high along the curbs that you can't see oncoming traffic. dry.gif

luvmykids replied:
Y'all would have LAUGHED at us today....the DFW metroplex shut down because we had 1/100 of an inch of water that froze rolling_smile.gif In our defense, or should I say THEIR defense (since I know how to handle my car on ice), we don't get bad weather enough for people to know how to use common sense when driving and that 1/100 is all it takes for the idiots to come out in full force and shut down every interstate and highway in a 30 mile radius rolleyes.gif
